Happy New Year:

Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays!

We're all set to resume the planning of the DLV 2014 event, and as
everyone knows it occurs sooner in the calendar year than it ever has
before, meaning we have a bit less time to finalize our plans.

As of this morning we have 86 signed up to attend. This includes 12
SOs. It's not easy to do an apples-to-apples comparison with previous
years due to this year's timing.

We'll have a kick-off general mailing this weekend and warm newcomer
registration will begin next week. Everything so far points to a very
good turnout.

Plans are ahead of schedule! Big thanks to all who have done their parts
to make this so. Both of the major gatherings and "anchor" activities
are now solid. All that is left to do, schedule wise, is filling in and
rounding out.

Behind the scenes we're doing a lot of the busy work getting ready for
activity sign-up and such. One thing we want to be sure of this year is
that we have very detailed and accurate information on our final
schedule so we will be reaching out to various Coordinators for info
off and on as we get closer to the big day.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Closing celebration:

Votes are in and polls are closed regarding our ending venue. Here
are the totals:

For: 8
Against: 15
Abstain: 2

Motion to use Bahama Breeze for both major gatherings fails to carry.

Last vote was dated Sun, 5 Jan 2014 10:09:22 PST and polls were closed
at that time Tuesday morning.

Raw votes appear below.

Cami has been given the go-ahead to finalize plans for Carmine's.

Again, thanks to all who took the initiative and put in a great degree
of effort into selecting the venues for our major gatherings this year!

Volunteers needed:

For those of you who have volunteered but currently are not involved
with any of the scheduled activities, there are many opportunities to
throw your hat into the ring and get involved.

Most of these do not involve much busy work and will be an easy ticket
to voting status.

Here are some of the particular areas in which we need help:

1. Lunch with (*YOU*)!

Ginger is our default daily lunch hostess but any volunteer can very
easily be Ginger For A Day and give Ginger a break! :) We'll even put
your name on the schhedule!

Just pick a day and a place. "Lunch With" has usually been at a buffet
but that is up to you. You call the shots.
. . . . .

2. Late evening dancing at Paris (or alternate).

We're having late evening dancing at Paris (or Bally's) as a recurring
activity for all (most) evenings this year. JoAnn and Annie have agreed
to host(ess) one evening each. That means that ther will be 3-4 evenings
when we will need someone. This is a very easy one. All you need to do
is agree to be there at and shortly after the posted start time to
welcome the others.
. . . . .

3. Smaller dining activities.

See schedule discussion below. Sunday is our greatest need for dining
activities but they will fit at other times as well. You can do this
very simply if you wish, just name a place and agree to be there and
welcome the others and coordinate things. You can, of course, do a more
organized thing with a reservation for so many if you want. We'll help
you out with sign-up and headcounts and such.
. . . . .

4. Various activities, day and evening.

See the schedule discussion below for specifics. We are in need of a
few smaller evening activiites and a few daytime things. Think of
things that you like to do and that others would enjoy as well. The
more unusual the better! :)

All days have room for additional activities during the day and most
evenings do as well.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Reviewing the schedule:

Let's go over the day to day schedule and see where things stand.

Sunday is designated as our "slow start" first day.

+Sunday, March 30:
+ 10:00am: Religious services (Metropolitan Community Church) - sv
+ 1:00pm: Bar Rescue Tour (Dennys Neonopolis) - ms
+ 1:00pm: Makeover Sessions - beginner (Bare Escentuals FSM) - ms
+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (tba) - ms

Sunday up through the afternoon is looking very good.

+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour options (various)
+ 6:00pm: Grotto Happy Hour (Grotto - Golden Nugget) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Mob Bar Happy Hour (Mob Bar) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Dining options (various)
+ 7:00pm: Grotto dining option (Grotto - Golden Nugget) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Mob Bar dining option (Mob Bar) - ms

We will be needing a couple of additional HH and dining options for
Sunday evening. In keeping with our theme for the day, these would best
be located in the downtown area. There are countless options from plain
and inexpensive to fancy.

+ 8:30pm: After-dinner options (various)
+ 8:30pm: Fremont Street Experience (Fremont Street) - ms
+ 8:30pm: Scavenger Hunt (Mob Bar) - ms

The Scavenger Hunt last year was a major hit! Fremont Street has about
everything needed to keep everyone entertained. However (comma) ...

Question for all of you. ...

The Fremont Street area is very exposed and may be uncomfortable for
those who are just coming out. Do we want a second-track "safe"
gathering as an option here. No, by simply commenting you will not get
jumped on to coordinate it. Something like a PT's dinner followed by
Club Metro or something like that.

Thoughts?

+ 10:00pm: Late-night options (various)
+ 10:00pm: Dancing at Paris (Paris - Cabaret Lounge) - ms
+ 11:00pm: Beauty Bar (Beauty Bar) - ms

Another question for the gang. Do we want to keep Paris on the scheule
for Sunday evening or do we want to consider the Beauty Bar our single
track late-evening gathering?
. . . . .

+Monday, March 31:
+ 7:30am: Katie's Koffee Korner (Quad - Betty's Cyber Cafe) - ms
+ 11:00am: Studio Lites Open House (Studio Lites) - sv
+ 1:00pm: Makeover Sessions - beg. and int. (Bare Escentuals FSM) - ms
+ 1:00pm: Wig Seminar (Spotlight Lounge) - sv
+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (tba) - ms
+ 2:00pm: Beading Party (Spotlight Lounge) - sv

Again, Monday daytime is looking good. There's room for any of various
other activities on Monday as well.

+ 5:00pm: New attendee Welcome and Orientation (Bahama Breeze) - mv

This is kind of uncharted territory. We'll be reaching out to those
who expressed interest in helping with this as well as the Big Sister
Team to zero in on a plan for this.

+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour (Bahama Breeze) - mv
+ 7:00pm: Dinner (Bahama Breeze) - mv
+ 8:00pm: Welcome Celebration (Bahama Breeze) - mv
+ 8:30pm: Official group photo (Bahama Breeze) - mv
+ 10:00pm: Dancing at Paris (Paris - Cabaret Lounge) - ms

Monday evening is solid! Thanks go out again to those who helped to
make it so.
. . . . .

+Tuesday, April 1:
+ 7:30am: Katie's Koffee Korner (Quad - Betty's Cyber Cafe) - ms
+ 9:15am: Diva Las Vegas Invitational Golf (Wildhorse Golf Club) - ms
+ 1:00pm: Makeover Sessions - intermediate (Bare Escentuals FSM) - ms
+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (tba) - ms
+ 3:00pm: Art Tour - Painting Women (Bellagio Gallery) - ms

Tuesday daytime is well-rounded but there's room for additional things
as well. About anything would be a good fit.

+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour options (various)
+ 6:00pm: Joe's Happy Hour (Joe's Stone Crab) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Pamplemousse Happy Hour (Pamplemousse) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Ricardo's Happy Hour (Ricardo's) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Ruths Chris Happy Hour (Ruths Chris - Harrahs) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Hofbrau Happy Hour (Hofbrauhaus) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Eating Out Night (various)
+ 7:00pm: Joe's dining option (Joe's Stone Crab) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Pamplemousse dining option (Pamplemousse) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Mexican dining option (Ricardo's) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Hofbrau option (Hofbrauhaus) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Ruths Chris option (Ruths Chris - Harrahs) - ms

HH and dinner both look good for Tuesday but there's still room for
another option if anyone has a particular venue in mind.

+ 9:00pm: Mainstream-Alternative Night (various)
+ 9:30pm: Frank Marino Show (The Quad) - ms
+ 10:00pm: Dancing at Paris (Paris - Cabaret Lounge) - ms

We are definitely in need of at least one other after-dinner option
on Tuesday evening. Eiffel Tower, perhaps? Wax Museum?
. . . . .

+Wednesday, April 2:
+ 7:30am: Katie's Koffee Korner (Quad - Betty's Cyber Cafe) - ms
+ 9:00am: Pistol and Rifle Shooting (TBA) - ms
+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (tba) - ms
+ 2:00pm: Pole Dance Instruction (Pole Fitness Studio) - ms

Wednesday daytime has room for about anything. Shopping? Sightseeing?

+ 6:00pm: Dinner (Pahrump Valley Winery) - ms
+ 7:30pm: Night of the Soiled Doves (Private facility) - mv
+ 10:00pm: Dancing at Paris (Paris - Cabaret Lounge) - ms

The big question for Wednesday evening is along the line of do we want
a second-track (local) option as an alternative to NSD? We do know that
NSD will be extremely popular and with the expanded capacity it will
most definitely attract a great number of our people. We don't blame
anyone if they do not want to plan anything against it.

If anyone wishes to do so, a local HH and dining option would be nice
and maybe something touristy after or perhaps a show.
. . . . .

+Thursday, April 3:
+ 7:30am: Katie's Koffee Korner (Quad - Betty's Cyber Cafe) - ms
+ 9:00am: Red Rock Hiking and Photo Outing (Red Rock Canyon) - ms
+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (tba) - ms

Thursday, daytime, still has room for any of various things.

+ 5:00pm: PF Chang Happy Hour (PF Chang - Planet Hollywood) - ms
+ 5:30pm: PF Chang Dinner (PF Chang - Planet Hollywood) - ms
+ 8:00pm: EHM Fantasy Ball (Erotic Heritage Museum) - mv
+ 10:00pm: Dancing at Paris (Paris - Cabaret Lounge) - ms

And another Big Burning Question. Do we want a second-track option
against EHM. EHM is a big gun which will definitely attract most of our
folks but if someone wants to plan an alternative the option is there.

Again, nobody is going to blame anyone for not wanting to.
. . . . .

+Friday, April 4:
+ 7:30am: Katie's Koffee Korner (Quad - Betty's Cyber Cafe) - ms

Friday morning is wide open and we should have something in there.

Shopping at FISM anyone? :)

+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (tba) - ms
+ 3:00pm: Macy's Makeovers, session 1 (Macy's FSM) - ms
+ 3:45pm: Macy's Makeovers, session 2 (Macy's FSM) - ms
+ 4:30pm: Macy's Makeovers, session 3 (Macy's FSM) - ms

Friday afternoon also has room for most anything, as the makeover
sessions are quite limited in capacity.

+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour (Carmine's) - mv
+ 7:00pm: Dinner (Carmine's) - mv
+ 8:00pm: Farewell Get-Together (Carmine's) - mv
+ 8:30pm: Official Group Photo (Carmine's) - mv
+ 10:00pm: Dancing at Paris (Paris - Cabaret Lounge) - ms
+ 11:59pm: Late Night Clubbing (Club Surrender - Wynn) - ms

Friday evening is strong and solid! Again, thanks to all who helped
make it so. :)

Rumor:

Katie writes:

> This would probably be either be Rumor (Rumour?),

Yes Annie that's the one! The Rumor. I think they attached Boutique
Hotel to the title making it [ The Rumor Boutique Hotel ] *I know not
why*

Maybe if one of our local ladies could visit and see how friendly they
are and if it looks good then I would be willing to hostess a small
dinner Do during the week if there is an open spot available. (Bev I
need a compardre to help me here! (Nudge, nudge, Wink, Wink.) Or anyone
who would like to. As I have not seen the inside of the joint it would
be really nice if someone local could let me know via e mail or right
here in D L V Discussion Forum.
. . . . . . . . . .

We will always have room for another dining venue. Tuesday evening can
still use one more option and this would most likely be the best fit.

Sunday needs some more dining options, but we want to concentrate these
around downtown Las Vegas if possible.

We could do a second dining option against PF Chang on Thursday if you
would like it.

Wednesday is open for a local dining option against NSD, but if nobody
wants to do one, we will understand.

Please let us know what you want to do.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Ballroom dancing:

Katie writes:

>> Still want Ballroom Dancing? I could put in a few calls to

Yes indeedy.... I would like very much to do this as I missed all the
dance lessons we have had in the past due to scheduling and other
priorities. (I have a strong suspicion that there is a dancer inside
Katie just bursting to get out). Especially with Ballroom dancing or
even Salsa D too! Dancing together with a partner who you can actually
see through a smokey room without the aid of glasses due to the distance
apart people dance these days is a dying art but one I prefer. And to do
it in proper heels Runway style and dress up a bit for the occasion
would make my day!

Tentatively count me in Kandi. Thanks for bringing it up.

Art timing:

Sarah writes:

> 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (tba) - ms
> 2:00pm: Art Tour - Painting Women (Bellagio Gallery) - ms
> 6:00pm: Happy Hour options (various)

Looking at the schedule it seems that 2:00 may be a little early if
there are folks wanting to do either makeovers or have lunch with
Ginger. Would a move to 3:00 help anyone who is considering the Art
Tour? That would still give a couple of hours to prepare for the
evening options. Comments? Suggestions?
. . . . . . . . . .

We'll adjust Art Tour start to 3:00pm. Please let us know if you want it
adjusted further.

Sir Elton:

Delaney writes:

FYI, Elton John will be the headliner at the Colosseum during DLV. 7:30
showtime though, which doesn't work terribly well with the overall
schedule.
. . . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Delaney.

Looking at the Caesars calendar, Elton will be performing on Tuesday
the 1st. and Thursday the 3rd. Tuesday would probably be the best fit
on our schedule.

In the past we've worked around such a show time by having a special
dining activity right after the show, intended for those attending the
show.

Elton would also work on Thursday as a second track option against the
EHM Fantasy Ball. However, the EHM affair is expected to be extremely
popular so nobody will blame you if you do not want to schedule against
this.

Carmine's and restrooms:

Delaney writes:

For what it may be worth, I recently spent a few days in Manhattan and
as it was on the Diva list, I did try Carmine's. Although Vegas and NY
may be different, I thought the entree was quite good - perhaps not Del
Posto, but above average.

Although somewhat off topic, we all know the bathroom discussions will
start soon enough; but an incident there makes me believe things are
really changing, little by little. I went to see Pippin, and when I was
shown to my seat, the usher made it a point to tell me (unprompted)
where the ladies room was located. I have been going to the city for
years, and even though it's been an open environment for some time, I
can't imagine that having happened even a few years ago. In a few years,
Vegas may be the same.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks Delaney.

The restroom situation appears to (knocking on wood) be settling down
a bit. We haven't had a traumatic restroom incident for several years
and our people, for the most part, are now accustomed to avoiding the
practices that previously got us in trouble.

Society is changing too. We're far more likely to be seen in public
than we were a decade ago and the attitudes are gradually changing.

My guess is that your encounter above is typical of what they would
say when seating any lady, as the location of restrooms is probably
the most frequent question they get. :)

Food allergies:

Robin (with an "I") writes:

Hello:

I like the idea of having 2 different venues for the open and closing.
Variety is the spice of life.

My only concern is I have a food allergy, and would like to know a
little more about the menu. I see Carmine's offers several different
menus for people with food allergies. Would this be a buffet style
dinner, with a set menu, or would we be able to order from the regular
menu?
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Both Carmine's and Bahama Breeze will allow us to order from the full
menu. There will be some prix fixe specials as well at Carmine's. No
buffet at either. The menus for both Carmine's and Bahama Breeze are
on line.

We have a number of people who have dietary restrictions (I have one
which is usually easy to work around) and some of our people are just
very particular. :)
