This covers only the closing evening. Other items will be held until
after the new year. Enjoy the holidays everyone, please. :)

Second on the motion:
Vera writes:
I second Bob's motion regard the BB as both an opening and closing
venue.
. . . . . . . . . .
The floor is now open for discussion.
We will do one more ORG mailing, consisting of discussion on this
motion, in about a week.
Due to our self-imposed moratorium on major binding decisions, which
takes effect two days from today, the actual vote will not occur until
the first of the new year.
Those of voting status can expect a special ballot mailing on or about
January first.

Ending venue:

When voting on the Closing Activity site - Carmine's or Bahama Breeze:
Having the variety of different locations for the two major events, even
when other things are equal or thereabouts --- offers us --- the
"known" (Bahama Breeze) for the Opening, and the "new" (Carmine) for the
Closing/Farewell.
Yes, variety is the "spice of life".

In favor of Carmine's:
Annie writes:
My personal desire is to have an ending evening which evokes the maximum
amount of enjoyment and satisfaction from as many of our attendees as is
possible.
Toward that end I want to see the maximum level of participation (in our
ending festivities) by all factions of our attendee base.
I sincerely believe that Bahama Breeze is the best-fit for our opening
evening. For this function, it has unanimous support among the PM team,
a strong consensus among the volunteers, and a strong preference among
those who participated in our recent survey.
I do not, however, believe that Bahama Breeze is a best-fit for our
closing evening, particularly since we have the Carmine's option which
meets all of the criteria of importance on our recent survey.
Although Bahama Breeze may offer a degree of familiarity and comfort to
some, it can also come off as too much of a good thing to some and "same
old same old" to others.
Although our recent survey covered the topic of the Welcome Celebration,
one portion dealt directly with the possible re-use of facilities for a
second maximum-attendance gathering.
Of those who indicated that they were more likely to skip the second
activity at a re-used venue, all of them indicated that they attended
DLV two or more times in the past. All but one indicated that they were
very likely to attend DLV 2014 this coming year.
The pattern shown indicates that should we re-use Bahama Breeze for our
closing evening, we risk the non-participation of a significant number
of our senior members.
These are the ones who tend to be confident, gregarious, and outgoing,
and in particular, these are people we want at our gathering!
My concern is that if we use Bahama Breeze a second time, we risk a
lower turnout, the absence of several whose presence would add value to
the activities, and an overall lower level of enjoyment and satisfaction
of the evening's activities and the DLV 2014 event as a whole.
I suggest that we vote to use Carmine's for our ending evening.

Carmine's:
Cami writes:
It is obvious that I would support going to Carmines at the Caesars
Forum Shops as I have negotiated the space for the event. Having said
that, let me explain in bullet points why I think this will be one of
the best farewell parties ever.
1. It is a beautiful, spacious venue with two bars and plenty of room
for us to socialize. We would have our own restrooms, a place to have a
group picture and entertainment and privacy being on the second floor.
2. The food is spectacular. It is served family style and it will really
lend itself to having people socialize and meet one another. Did I
mention the food was good?
3. It is on the strip and within easy walking distance to most of the
hotels we will be staying at.
4. There is a back valet entrance which will serve well for those who
have concerns about walking through the mall. That entrance is a short
distance from the restaurant. We will also be able to have escorts if
needed.
5. It will be memorable and just like Bahama Breeze has become, it will
be a place we will want to return to.
I would ask that you would consider seriously voting for Carmines for
our farewell party. I will do everything I can to make it a night we
will all remember fondly.

Even though I really like BB, we really need another option for large
group dining and Cami's deal with Carmines has everything it takes to be
as good as Bahama Breeze.
