Org List:
This is the DLV 2014 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
All-topic mailing:
This mailing covers both general topics and that of the closing
celebration.
We'll plan on one more ORG mailing, on or about December 18, which will
be our last ORG mailing for the calendar year of 2013 unless something
of urgency arises.
. . . . . . . . . .
The big news is that Carmine's, one of the venues we've been considering
for our closing festivities, has agreed to host our affair, allowing us
to order from the full regular menu. See item below.
Our thanks go out to Cami for negotiating this.
We also have a motion on the floor (see below) to hold both of the major
gatherings at Bahama Breeze.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks to all who helped shake down the re-registration process. No
issues were reported. As of now we have 41 individuals signed up to
attend, which is more than we had at DLV 1999 or any year prior. If
this rate of response is an indication of things to some we will have
a very good crowd this coming year!
. . . . . . . . . .
All, please look over the schedule below and report any issues. We've
had additions and changes since the last general ORG mailing.
Please be sure that everything that is supposed to be there is there and
that times, locations, etc. are as they should be.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Carmines for the Closing:
Carmine's has agreed to host our closing festivities, as outlined in a
previous mailing, and will offer our group their full regular menu. In
addition, some full-course prix fixe specials may be available.
Carmine's is the Las Vegas branch of the long-standing Upper West Side
Italian restaurant in Manhattan. It recently opened in Caesars Forum
Shops, in the complex formerly occupied by the Caesars Planet Hollywood
bar and restaurant. This puts it within walking distance of all of our
DLV 2014 suggested hotels.
Our affair would be held in their upstairs dining room, which offers a
certain degree of privacy without being totally secluded.
The upstairs includes a separate bar, which would be available to us
from Happy Hour onward through our closing social period, and a separate
set of restrooms.
The room is appropriate for a "program" if we choose to have one, and
even for light entertainment.
Carmine's is willing to hold this for us until the first of the year
pending our decision.

Bar for Pamplemousse:
Robyn writes:
F Y I Dale and I dined at the Pamplemousse over Halloween, at that time
Dale asked if they have a bar somewhere in the restaurant the same
server we had at the last DLV said no never had one. I guess if we all
sat aroound the table and had wine you could call that a H H.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Robyn.
Delaney? What do you want to do about happy hour for Pamplemousse? Last
year it was at the PT's down the street. Your call. :)

Hi Julie,
I would be glad to help in your planning, 'Cause kandi can dance! Please
let me know which dance places you are looking at.

Boutique hotel query:
Katie writes:
I was in L/V last week for 4 days in Male mode but unfortunately I
didn't have much spare time to look around for dining possibilities and
such.
I did however notice a new Hotel Casino on the right side of Harmon just
east of Koval lane which looks like quite a quite nice option for an DLV
ending dinner bash.
It is a boutique hotel. (The "Something Boutique Hotel casino") but
unfortunately I lost the paper I wrote the name down on. This might be a
possibility for an end of week Gathering of the clans because the sign
mentioned dining and lounge facilities and it looks very nice from the
outside. I am sure that Cami or one of the other locals can look into it
and shed some light on it as to capacity and availability.
Can one of our L/V locals please take a look for us?
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
This would probably be either be Rumor (Rumour?), which is a remodeled
and re-opened St. Tropez, or else the recently-updated Alexis Park.
Rumor is under the same management as Artisan and has been offered to us
in the past. No particular reason why we have not used it.
We had our Pre-DLV gathering at Alexis Park in 2008. One of our people
looked into having one of our major gatherings there but they were very
inflexible with the formalities.
Alexis Park is known to be a discreet hideaway for various celebrities
who want to visit Las Vegas without being bothered by the fawning mobs
on the Strip. :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Eat At Joe's:
Michelle (NZ) writes:
I'll host an EON, Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab Vegas, Happy
Hour will be in their bar. Probably limited to 10-12.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Michelle, it's on the schedule.
Ladies (gentlemen), that rounds out our Tuesday Eating Out Night very
nicely! There is still room for one more option if anyone insists on
planning one, but lacking that, we can consider this solid. Thanks to
all who volunteered to host(ess) these dining options! :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Pre DLV:
Delaney writes:
Since we are doing early planning, I will be there on Saturday, the 29th
(I'm using airline points, so you have to make reservations a hundred
years in advance). I know that it didn't go over last year, but should
you be interested in my reserving Nove Italiano or Alize for Sat
evening, let me know.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
My personal opinion is that a Pre-DLV dinner will get more of a
following at a less spendy venue. I personally would probably enjoy
either one you mention, however.
I'm still a bit perplexed why our Pre-DLV gatherings of recent years
have not attracted very many. Up through 2010 we always had a very good
crowd (35-ish) at these but lately it seems like we're lucky if we break
10-12.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Bahama Breeze:
Sherry writes:
I've always wondered why the Breeze couldn't be used for both opening
and closing gatherings? Until a similar venue is located. The BB is wide
open, with plenty of room for 100+ folks. Easy access to the bar and
parking. Order off the menu or don't eat. The gatherings r all about
socializing for me. Loud music is NOT appreciated until later when I
want to dance. Book it for Monday and Friday until u locate another
venue that is equal or better!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Motion on the floor:
Bob writes:
I make a motion to take a vote on whether using BB as a WC and a CC is
viable.
. . . . .
Bob clarified the intent of the motion as:
An up or down vote to hold both major gatherings at the Bahama Breeze.
At least since I've been attending DLV, Bahama Breeze has always been a
success for the closing and I, and evidently others also can see it as a
Welcome venue, also. Why knock success. It's comfortable, safe, an open
menu, affordable, comfortable, even a bit classy, friendly...did I
mention comfortable?
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks Bob.
The floor is now open for a second on this motion.
We should note that if this motion carries, it will preclude us from the
Carmine's closing option presented above, or any other option, for the
closing celebration. Thus, should this motion come to a vote it will
effectively be a vote between Bahama Breeze (currently planned for the
Welcome Celebration) and Carmines (noted above) as the DLV 2014 closing
venue.

In favor of Carmine's:
Beverly writes:
As I am sure you can guess, I am a big fan of Bahama Breeze. Having
hosted or co-hosted the last two Closing Ceremonies there, I have become
very fond of the place. They are great to work with, offer great food
and drinks, as is easy to find and park. It is one of my favorite places
in Las Vegas. I want to go there every year and feel it will be a great
location for our welcoming celebration this year.
That being said, one of the things I look forward to the most at DLV is
trying new places. So the idea of repeating a venue isn't really my cup
of tea.
We are being offered the opportunity to try a new and exciting venue at
Carmine's. It's located in The Forum Shops by Caesar's. That happens to
be another place I love to go and have enjoyed going to Trevi's for that
reason.
I know some of the newer gals might be nervous about going to such a
public place. Remember that this will be happening on Friday night, the
end of the week. By that time I am sure that you will be ready to try a
new adventure. Plus you will have gained many new friends during the
week who will be willing to support you and guide you in this adventure.
And so I offer my thanks to everyone who was instrumental in picking
Carmine's and contacting them about hosting DLV's closing ceremony. I
know it will be a wonderful way to wrap up the week. I am looking
forward to getting dressed up in my finest outfit to enjoy this last
night in Las Vegas. You should be too!

Reverse strategy:
Kandi writes:
> This is the first time I recall that a "reverse" strategy of a

I favor this approach for the ending event. Let's say we meet new
friends during the week. This gives us a chance to meet up with them and
then choose one of several dining options as a small group. All
restaurant options would serve a Full menu with this approach.

Painting Women:
Sarah (with an "h") writes:
this one should work for us.
Tuesday Afternoon 2:00 Art Tour - Bellagio gallery of fine art
Painting Women
The exhibition will feature a series of paintings portraying female
artists as confident practitioners of their craft, as well as a survey
of work by women artists including Mary Cassatt, Georgia OKeeffe and
Berthe Morisot. A portrait by French painter Louise Ilisabeth Vigie Le
Brun, a predecessor and role model to the artists showcased, will
introduce the series. The works will be arranged thematically from the
1870s, the era when fine arts training programs first became available
to women, to the mid-20th century when women (like their male
counterparts) adopted more abstract, modern styles.
