Org List:
This is the DLV 2013 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Speak now or forever:
Thanks to all who have helped finalize things over the past week
or so!
This is absolute LAST CALL for any not-yet-scheduled activities
which will need a sign-up or a headcount!
The hard-stop drop-dead day/time will be Wednesday, March 20, at
7:00am CDT.
After that time, any newly-scheduled activities for DLV 2013 will
need to be on a no-sign-up, just-show-up basis!
. . . . . . . . . .
Other than for Monday dining, our schedule is full and rich.
We're now at the wire, so we will be going down the default path of
offering the Artisan Mood Restaurant and bar appetizers, similar to
what we did in 2011, but we're not gonna jump through all kinds of
hoops. We'll take a headcount, but note that it's FCFS, as available
and that food service will be available from 5:00pm to 10:00pm.
. . . . . . . . . .
Latest numbers:
We broke 200!
Registered headcount now stands at 204. The Magic Machine, using
the formulae proven to be accurate through 2011 says that 164 will
show. Registrations still come in on the average of one every few
days with no sign of slowing down.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
JoAnn Sez:
Yes, --- To all --- you all have done it again. The schedule is great.
The "shadow schedule" that develops always intrigues me as it seems to
have a life of its own each day as you all meet and 'arrange' is the
"sub-plot" of the Diva Gathering. Another Wow !!!
Monday night opening I'm confident will do just fine at the Artisan.
Sometimes we over-plan. Thanks Cynthia for all your efforts.
Valorie ---Thanks for taking the lead on this Scavenger Hunt. I can be
available to plan with you at the Artisan Monday night and/or Tuesday.
I'm sure we can find a donation prize from our vendors/friends. We can
discuss when we meet.
JoAnn

Testing activity sign-up:
On this coming Wednesday we'll be sending a test batch of activity
sign-up e-mails to those of you on the ORG list.
We're asking you to please give the activity sign-up system a good
shakedown, as we want to send out the main batches starting toward
the end of the week.
Please sign up for activities "for real", but please give the system
a good once-over, looking carefully for anything that does not look
right or does not act right, such as:
1. Any factual errors, schedule time errors, typos, misspellings,
grammatical errors, etc.
2. Technical issues. Screen formatting errors. Any error messages
or unexpected responses. No response, delays in response, etc.
You can try signing up for multiple options at the same to me to see
if the traps are working. Likewise, you can try signing up for an
activity that occurs before you arrive or after you leave, and the
trap should catch it as well.
We'll launch the batch to the rank and file attendees as soon as we
are reasonably certain that things are working properly.
And if you don't get one of these early sign-up mailings, please
don't have a cow. It's not a snub. It's most likely that your
e-mail address for this list does not match the one you used when
you registered for DLV.
Those who are MyDLV members, you can test this out by following the
appropriate button. This will be turned on Wednesday morning.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Laundry list:
Very short this week. Thanks to all for making it so!
. . . . .
JB? Any further thoughts or plans for the Ballroom Dance Instruction?
Last call.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Sunday dining:
Delaney writes (from a conversaton):
I tried three other "great view" restaurants" and they were either
closed Sundays or not amenable to a group reservation at 7PM. I also
avoided steakhouses, since we have several scheduled during the week.
I booked Pamplemousse, just off the strip on Sahara, if you feel that
would work with the group. I haven't eaten there before, but the reviews
are very good vis-a-vis the price. I am holding a spot for ten right
now.
They do not have a bar, so I'll need to look around a bit for a HH -
there does not seem to be a bar right near by, which in calling
Pamplemousse, they confirmed. They will seat us, however, prior to the
entire party being there, so it may be alright.
Let me know what you think:
http://www.lasvegasrestaurants.com/review.cfm/restaurant/1197/Pamplemousse
. . . . .
Annie responds:
Delaney, the bar that comes immediately to mind by Pamplemousse is
the PT's Pub just a couple of blocks to the east, same side of the
street. We have used it before a few times and it's TG-friendly.
. . . . .
Delaney responds:
Annie, That would be fine.
. . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks Delaney. It's all set. We don't have any Continental dining
options on the schedule, and haven't for several years, so this will
be a great fit.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Check-in:
Beverly writes:
I will be happy to assist with the Monday welcoming sign in/registration
at Artisian if you still need it.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks, Beverly. We'll sure use you!
Once we get activity sign-up underway we'll nail down the details of
when/where/who/etc. for check-in.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Scavenger Hunt:
Valorie writes:
OK, lets do the scavenger hunt Tuesday after dinner. I agree with Joann
that we should form teams at one of the dinner locations then head out
after food (roughly 8pm - midnight). My preference would be the mob bar
as its more informal setting would be more conducive to mingling and
setting up teams. I am sure there will be some overlap with the Fremont
Street crowd as that will probably be one of the destinations.
Thanks to JoAnn for offering to help, would you be able to meet on
Monday to coordinate? The big questions for me are: should we have an
official prize? do we need people to preregister? and where can we meet
up at the end?
As for pole dancing, we should have 14 open slots for people to register
(after saving space for myself and my wife). What other information do I
need to provide for the registration process?
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Valorie.
We'll mark this as starting at the Mob Bar. As for timing, a meet
time of 8:30pm or even 9:00pm will be less of a time crunch for
those who are not dining downtown. We'll put it as 8:30 for now,
and if you want this changed, please let us know.
We'll do a "sign-up for headcount" to get you a list of who plans to
participate.
We'll also adjust the capacity of the Pole Dance Lessons to 14.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Artisan and such:
Bob writes:
I am planning on being at the Artisan for the newcomers, HH and dinner
on Sunday. I'll volunteer to assist Cynthia with the host/ess duties,
as I don't get around too easily.
to Annie: Where is the pre-DLV get together, so I can give you the tag
holders?
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks Bob.
We'll most definitely use you to assist with greeting and such at
any or all of the Artisan functions. If you don't want to be
standing too long, you might be a good fit to do check-in with
Beverly and/or others who will be doing it.
As to a Pre-DLV gathering, we don't know, and probably won't know
for a while. That's one of the topics on the plate to cover once we
have activity sign-up underway.
All: Please be thinking about possible venues for such a Pre-DLV
gathering.
I would like to see a better turnout for this than we've seen for
the past couple of years. Prior to 2011, this always had a solid
turnout in the 30-ish headcount or so, but for 2011 and 2012 the
numbers have been smaller.
Our best Pre-DLV crowds in the recent past were at Alexis Park, Pt's
Pub on Sahara, and Las Palmas in Commercial Center.
To garner a good crowd, a venue for such an affair needs to hit the
sweet spot between mainstream-ness and comfort. IMAO, the ones we
used for 2011 and 2012 (Firefly on Paradise and the now-closed Mr.
B's) were probably a bit too much on the wide-open side. I do
remember the speculation that we were getting drive-bys at the
Firefly due to the large and obvious very mainstream crowd.
We also don't want to OD on venues we're already using in the main
DLV line-up. The Pre-DLV function is a great way to "audition" the
potential venues for future activities.
Ideas?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Artisan comments:
Katie writes:
Hi Gang.
I totally agree Cynthia,. I love the Artisan too as a nice place to go
and socialize but it will get monotonous if we keep going there and
especially for an Opener.
Maybe if we scheduled it for a New folks intro place I think that would
be perfect! Kudo's to you for all the work on arranging it as an opener
though.I will likely be there early on the Monday and can help with the
new attendees etc'.
Suggestion for 2014, Maybe we should think of Bahama Breeze as an
opener next year instead of Artisan and look for somewhere else to do
the final night ! (Just a thought).
By the way I am not too upset that we won't be doing a BBQ, I am not the
jeans and T shirt type anyway and I don't have a full length apron to
catch the spilled BBQ sauce or bib either.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Let's please "hold that thought" until we do the wrap-up of this
year's event and look forward to the 2014 event.
I will say that the Artisan is "the absolute worst venue we could
pick for our opener except for all of the others!" :) :)
We do need to give our thanks to Cynthia for taking the initiative
to plan our opener. It's not perfect, but we'll certainly have a
great crowd and a great time.
