Hotels and various items:

Our hotel suggestions need to be our number one priority at this
time. We'll allow one more list cycle for hotel comments, and move
on to a decision.

It's surprising that Harrah's has not been mentioned. There were
some very attractive rates noted in the Discussion Forum and it
appears that CET is indeed steering business that would otherwise
go to the IP over to Harrah's during the construction.

Comments regarding hotels in general, and comments about specific
properties are encouraged, please.
. . . . .

Please continue with the activity thoughts. See items below. One
item of note is that we have a proposal for one of our major
gatherings, plus a volunteer to do the legwork in arranging for the
facility.

JoAnn's Thoughts:

It is early for planning and rather get into the details of "when and
where"immediately, but still planning, I would hope we have a few weeks
of reflection and discussions on "what" we want to be doing in 2013.

On a serious note, I would like to start leading a conversation about
how we "advance the good work of Diva Las Vegas". By that I mean, "the
person coordinates" is replaced with the concept of "Teams who
Coordinate" with a Team Coordinator. I bring the topics up because as a
group we need to be looking at bringing on-board leadership with new
ideas, alternate ways to develop our program, volunteer succession, and
most importantly continue to _grow the excitement factor_". Yes we have
discussed this in the past, but now as Katie is suggesting we have
"Teams [ with others] -- below."

So my "sub-theme" throughout this year will be asking about the future
and how each of us can play a role in this very important play, called
--- Diva Las Vegas Teams.

Enjoy the holidays, even the "trying moments".....

Hugs, and with a special caring in support for all of your wishes this
Thanksgiving 2013

JoAnn

Katie's Koffee Korner:

Katie writes:

Hi Gang.

I intend to run Katies Koffe Korner again in April but maybe 1/2 hour
later and will ask for a few to help with regards to those who prefer a
later coffee. I will likely already have help with this but someone
complained last year that we were too early and that's good right?

Seriously we need suggestions like this and it was taken under
advisement, I thought that this time around we could have an ongoing yet
staggered coffee session for those who don't like getting out of bed
early. We would obviously need held to accomplish this as I can't stay
there all day as I will have my own schedule to attend to.

In 2012 I intended the Katies Koffee Korner to be a low key type of drop
in information event held at the beginning of the day so that both new
and old attendees could do a meet and greet and decide on an ad lib
basis what type of day they want for themselves if they had nothing in
particular planned, or even just a way to find out what the others were
doing that particular evening too.

Not everyone intends to do a full schedule of events, I myself have
often added an event spontaneously which has no signup because I found
out that someone I knew was going or on second thoughts it simply
sounded like a good fit for me.

This could be one of the events you mentioned which would help new
attendees and old too to obtain info on the days activities and get the
low down on the type of events held that day or evening.

I am willing to hostess it for most days of the week. With Bev's help of
course. ( Nudge, nudge ,wink wink @ Bev ) Hopefully others can throw
their towel in the ring too.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Katie.

If you want a longer session you might try getting a couple of
volunteers to tag-team, relieving the one who is there at the
beginning.

Hotel comments:

Walter writes:

I will miss you all, but I could not help making a nomination which
meets the spirt of your 5 requirements...

I would like to propose Palace Station be considered... it misses on
being walking-distance, but is very driver-convenient... I can not
personally verify the atmosphere to be 100% comfortable for rather
obvious reasons... however, in years past I have enjoyed dinners in the
restaurants there with a rather eye-catching date... not a Trans Woman,
but a 6' plus Cisgender Woman bodybuilder with no uncomfortable
stares... I am not certain my experience is a valid parallel, though.

As always, thank you for considering my comment.

Respectfully,
Walter

Annie responds:

Thanks, Walter. Yes, we you will be missed!

Palace Station has been one of our suggested hotels twice now, both
in 2005 and in 2008.

In neither year did it attract enough DLV attendees to get any kind
of a meaningful number of DLVers at the property. The one advantage
that Palace Station does have is that it is one of the very few
remaining larger hotels which still has "garden rooms" available as
well as tower rooms. These are motel-style rooms in low-rise
buildings, and in most cases entry and exit does not require one to
transit a busy hotel lobby and/or casino.

Opening gathering:

Cynthia writes:

I would like to suggest we hold our Monday Opener at Artisan this year
to give us that really classy, dressy, formal, kick-off affair that will
give everyone - first timers and old members alike - a chance to exhibit
their most beautiful formal dresses in a really classy setting that
makes everyone feel so upscale and chic.

We got all week to dive the cheesy places around town in tourist rags,
but the op. to put on our best front for each other, and for the entire
group - and to get out of them old dungerees - comes around only at the
beginning and the end of our week of festivities.

No reservations will be needed this year; I will simply tell them we're
coming. I must mention, however, that I will not - repeat, NOT - be
available for hostess responsibilities this year if we decide on
Artisan. There are plenty of others of you who, I'm sure, will jump at
the opportunity to fill this all important position.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Cynthia!

If you're willing to do the pre-event legwork, you can certainly be
relieved of the on-site hostess duties if you don't want to do that
kind of a thing. I (Annie) would be willing to lend a hand as far
as hospitality is concerned and I'm sure others will as well.

To all: Is this (Artisan, similar to what we did in 2011) what we
want for our Big Bang opening activity in 2013? The 2011 Welcome
Celebration scored 4.51 on the enjoyment scale and 4.69 on the comfort
scale.

For those who don't want to see said WC at the Artisan, please suggest
alternatives and (big sly grin) please state a willingness to be
involved in making your suggestion happen. :)

Shooting and limo timing:

Gina writes:

I'd like to schedule the shooting event the morning on the limo ride
instead of the morning after. That way we can sleep in after partying
all night.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Gina.

We probably won't finalize the evening for the Limo Tour for some
time, but in recent years it's been Wednesday or Thursday, as the
evenings later in the week work out better WRT payment. If you have
a preference for Wednesday or Thursday for shooting, let us know and
we can most likely schedule the Limo Tour for the evening.
