Filling in the details:

Another early and rather long mailing. We have quite a few things
going on, and yes, lots of progress is being made as everyone will
see.

A vote has been requested on our opening proposal. See below.

Our overall progress is very good. Big thanks are in order to those
who have volunteered to take on duties and/or confirmed earlier
intents. It appears that this year we will have a very good division
of the load, with no obvious overloads or burn-outs evident at this
time.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
JoAnn's Thoughts:

Yes, we are moving "right along"... our regular schedule is developing
very nicely... thanks to you all !!

At the same time, as we go forward, I believe, we really need a
volunteer to step forward and coordinate a *"I Have Arrived -
Get-to-Gather"* activity; a wordsmithing alternative to" Beginner's
Open House" or "Beginner's Social". _ My suggestion:

Location The Artisan.
Activity Happy Hour and Dinner.
When -- Tuesday as a lead-in to Mainstream Alternate Night ....
or Wednesday lead-in to Pre-Erotic Heritage Museum.
Reason -- It is a great location [ambiance, lighting, dramatic
statement] where one can look exquisite for one's arriving into
the "mainstream".

I would hope someone [prefer two as co-hosts] who will step forward to
welcome their new Sisters to enjoy an environment where they can
comfortably meet, socialize, and say --*" I Have Arrived"*

Let's review the schedule:

The schedule is taking shape nicely. Most of the major things are
now solid. Exceptions are noted.

Now is the time we need to start filling in the weaker spots with
various daytime and evening activities as needed.

For those who have volunteered to do dining options, now is the
time to decide what size of group you want, and select a timeslot
where we need it. At this time, our greatest needs are for dining
options on a few various evenings and some assorted after-dinner
activities of all types where needed. We have several timeslots
open for daytime activities as well.
. . . . . . . . . .

Going day by day ...

+Sunday, April 22:

Sunday is one of our weaker days at this time. MCC is the only
activity of any type we have during the day.

+ 10:00am: Religious services (Metropolitan Community Church)

We do not have any lunch/brunch activities on Sunday (yet). Do we
want one? Do we want something special, do we want to start Lunch
With Ginger/Alanna on Sunday this year, or what?

A Beginner Open House or a Beginner Social would fit very well on
Sunday late afternoon. See below.

+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour options (various)
+ 6:00pm: Margaritaville Happy Hour (Margaritaville) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Dining options (various)
+ 7:00pm: Margaritaville Dinner (Margaritaville) - ms

We are in need of at least one more Happy Hour and Dinner option
for Sunday evening.

+ 8:30pm: After-dinner options (various)

Sunday after dinner is one of our weak spots.

Last year we had two common gatherings, one designated "mainstream"
and the other "alternative", but the two venues were only a few
blocks apart and the mainstream one kind of collapsed into the
alternative one.

IMAO, if we could just hang around at Margaritaville after dinner,
that would make for a good mainstream gathering, and we could do
another social at a "safe" place (Crewsn? Escape?) for those who
want something less exposed as the alternative gathering.

Comments?

Ideas?

Volunteeres? :)
. . . . .

+Monday, April 23:

Monday really depends on how the vote on the D&D proposal goes.
If it carries, Monday is all but set. Should it fail, we're back
to square one for Monday evening.

+ 11:00am: Studio Lites Open House (Studio Lites) - sv
+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (Stratosphere Buffet) - ms
+ 4:00pm: Mob Museum tour (Mob Museum) - ms

Monday during the day is shaping up.

Again, a Beginner Open House or Beginner Social would fit in the
afternoon on Monday.

Monday evening is kind of up in the air as of this day, hour,
minute, and second, pending the outcome of the vote. See below.

Assuming the vote carries, here's what Monday evening will look
like. All items listed have at least one volunteer committed
to them.

+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour options (various)
+ 6:00pm: Luna Rossa option (Luna Rossa) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Fremont option (Fremont Hotel) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Mob Bar option (Mob Bar) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Dinner options (various)
+ 7:00pm: Luna Rossa option (Luna Rossa) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Tony Roma's option (Fremont Hotel) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Mob Bar option (Mob Bar) - ms
+ 8:00pm: Welcome Celebration (Drink and Drag) - mv
+ 10:00pm: Official Group Photo (Drink And Drag) - mv
+ 10:30pm: Late evening options (various)
+ 10:30pm: Bowling (Drink and Drag) - sv
+ 10:30pm: Insert Coins (Insert Coins) - ms
+ 10:30pm: Fremont Street Experience (Fremont Street) - ms
+ 10:30pm: Karaoke (Beauty Bar) - ms
. . . . .

+Tuesday, April 24:

Tuesday has some weak spots, particularly for dinner and after.

+ 9:00am: Diva Las Vegas Invitational Golf (Desert Rose)
+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (LV Hotel Buffet) - ms
+ 2:00pm: Neon Museum (Neon Museum) - ms

Tuesday daytime is looking good. A commercial open house would fit
here, or maybe shopping, makeover, whatever.

Tuesday evening is starting to shape up, but we need a few more
things to fill it out.

+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour options (various)
+ 6:00pm: Crystal's choice (TBD)
+ 6:00pm: Gabi's choice (TBD) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Marrakech option (Marrakech) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Eating Out Night (various)
+ 7:00pm: Namaste option (Namaste) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Mexican option (TBD) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Marrakech option (Marrakech) - ms

We are in need of one more smaller dining option for Tuesday's
Eating Out Night. About anything besides Indian, Moroccan or
Mexican would be a good fit.

JoAnn has suggested a "Beginners Option" in here. See above.

+ 8:30pm: Mainstream-Alternative Night (various)
+ 9:00pm: Karaoke (Crewsn) - sv

After dinner on Tuesday is still a weak spot.

Shows, particularly the high-end shows which attract a smaller
group of our people, have always worked well on evenings such
as this.

Bar Crawl has been an off and on perennial favorite here. It can
be alternative, mainstream, mixed, or themed.

Pajama Party? Irish pub? Poker Tournament? Eiffel Tower?
Pool (billiards) Tournament? Stratosphere Tower? Piano bar?

Late-late on Tuesday, Nikki, this would be a good timeslot
for your Late Night Clubbing.
. . . . .

+Wednesday, April 25:

Wednesday is one of our most solid days.

+ 11:00am: Glamour Boutique Open House (Glamour Boutique) - sv
+ 12:00n: Volunteer Recognition Luncheon (Artisan) - mv
+ 2:00pm: Bellagio Fine Arts Museum (Bellagio) - ms

Wednesday daytime is starting to look good. Close to solid.

+ 5:00pm: Happy Hour options (various)
+ 5:00pm: Happy Hour (Firefly) - ms
+ 5:00pm: Happy Hour (PF Chang) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Dining options (various)
+ 6:00pm: Dinner (Firefly) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Dinner (PF Chang) - ms
+ 8:00pm: Erotic Heritage Museum (Erotic Heritage Museum)

We have two strong medium-size dinner options and one very strong
"anchor" activity for Wednesday evening. If someone insists, we
could put in a third dining option, but our needs for dining are
much greater in other timeslots. JoAnn has suggested this timeslot
as a possibility for a Beginner HH and Dinner.

Yes, about any kind of activity opposite the EHM is an option for
anyone who wants to coordinate it. If nobody does, the EHM thing
will most likely be of such a scale that the lack of any other
option will not be noticed that much. :)
. . . . .

+Thursday, April 26:

Thursday is still open for both daytime and evening activities.

+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (Gold Coast Buffet) - ms
+ 2:00pm: High Tea (Four Seasons) - ms

Thursday morning. Touristy/outdoorsy/commercial/makeover or
about anything would be a good fit.

+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour (Trevi) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Dinner (Trevi) - ms
+ 9:30pm: Limousine Tour (TBA) - ms

Trevi has a practical limit in the 30-ish range, and the Limo
Tour, which usually sells out, has a practical limit in the
low 40s. Both will draw good crowds, but neither has the
potential to exhaust the pool of participants for other things
in those timeslots.

Another medium-size dining option would be great here.

A show-type activity would work very well against the Limo Tour.
. . . . .

+Friday, April 27:

Friday is also one of our more solid days.

+ 1:00am: Non-Charles Bar (Chandelier Bar) - ms
+ 9:00am: Pistol and rifle shooting (TBD) - ms
+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (Paris Buffet) - ms
+ 3:00pm: Makeover Sessions (Macy's FSM) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour (Bahama Breeze) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Dinner (Bahama Breeze) - mv
+ 8:00pm: Farewell Celebration (Bahama Breeze) - mv
+ 9:30pm: Dancing at Paris (Paris) - ms

Friday is looking very good. There may be room for 1-2 more
daytime options of various types, but overall Friday is one
of our most ready-to-go days.

More opening thoughts - vote requested:

Rosada writes:

My thoughts on the Artisan for our Opening/Welcome Celebration. The
location was good for all the positive reasons that were previously
expressed.

At this point I'm not certain if Dennis & I are taking the trailer or
driving our car to Vegas, so I won't commit to contributing to the car
pool idea, which I think is great.

We had no problem with our dinner last year at the Artisan. One thing I
think we have overlooked as a dinner option at the Artisan, since I
didn't see it mentioned previously, is the patio area. We could split
the group into two groups, one for those that chose to eat al fresco and
those that chose to eat indoors. I'm not even sure if the Artisan would
be willing to serve some of us out doors on the patio. One draw back
though would be the weather. If it's raining that would rule out eating
out in the patio. If its cooler weather, we can just bring a wrap or
sweater.

Delaney writes:

I like the idea of a "downtown" opening celebration. Although I
obviously gravitate to Fremont Street, it is an area many girls might
otherwise not see, limiting their Vegas experience to the Strip.

The only downside is if we get a cold night as we did on the limo tour
last year, but odds are against that sort of cold again (always bet with
the house) - so you have my portion of consensus.
. . . . . . . . . .

Katie writes:

Hi All. I am really sorry that I can't share your enthusiasm for Drink
and Drag but Aren't we defeating the purpose of the opener being a
**Quality social time event** when we go to 3 separate restaurants to
eat either before. after or during the opener ? Dining After would see
starving T girls dashing off in the middle or near the end of the
festivities to eat and returning to find everybody had already left,
Dining before would see everyone arrive at multiple different times
throughout the evening instead of a general arrival of everyone at the
same time.Either of these 2 possibilities will be hard on the event
organizers and the hostesses too. I would rather see a straight vote
on this as in my case, A night of bowling alley type of activity is not
what I want to fly 2000 miles for on my once per year Glitzy Girly week
long outing. I am sorry if I am not a bowling alley fan but If I had a
choice it would be somewhere like the Artisan.=3D Lots'a class and
plenty of high end decor for the event of the year. Slow meals are
better than none at all or worse still everyone veering off in different
directions to eat at any and all times throughout the night. This sounds
like it would be an absolutely disastrous first night kick off event.
I couldn't make the opener at Artisan last year so my only knowledge of
the place is from their web page and the enthusiastic accolades I hear
from those who have been there.at DLV and other times throughout the
year. It appears to me to be just right for an event like our opener.
Nothing is ever going to be perfect but at least if we get to vote then
we can say we tried. If we don't I will live have to live with whatever
is decided or give the opener a bye.
. . . . . . . . . .

Well, gang, a vote has been requested, so, let's vote and settle
this so we can move forward.

Cami has requested the "ok" to pull the trigger on the proposed
set of activities, and we owe Cami a prompt go/no-go on this.

One big burning question here:

Are you, Katie or anyone else who does not like the Drink And Drag
proposal, willing and able to do the "heavy lifting" required to
coordinate an alternate WC at Artisan or elsewhere? We're talking
about such things as contacting vendors, negotiating terms, etc. If
you are, then please feel free to vote down the proposal for D&D
and prepare to "turn and burn" on a replacement should the vote
fail. If you're not willing to commit to that level of effort,
please support those who have taken the initiative to plan the
activities.
. . . . .

At this time, Artisan is essentially off the table for the Welcome
Celebration. The conditions on the contract presented to us in the
last go-round are simply not workable for our group.

For Rosada's particular suggestion, the real bottleneck we had
last year was the kitchen and not the seating capacity. They set
up additional tables in some spaces not normally used for dining
to help the situation, but despite a great effort by the Artisan
staff, they just didn't have the necessary "bandwidth" to prepare
and serve that many dinners in that timeframe.
. . . . .

Let's clarify the question at hand and what we'll be voting on.

>From last week's mailing:

+What we are proposing is an opening evening centered on downtown
+Las Vegas, converging upon Drink And Drag for the main single-track
+social portion of the program.

This vote will be an up/down yes/no on the "Modified Drink And
Drag" option as outlined in detail in last week's mailing. This
will NOT be the option with the catered dinner. That was scrapped
due to concerns raised.

So, why aren't we voting on an either/or, meaning a choice of
(modified) Drink And Drag or Artisan, one or the other?

Because no arrangements have been made with the Artisan. We really
do not have any ready-to-go "pull the trigger" plans with the
Artisan or with any venue other than Drink And Drag, so a choice
of A or B would not be practical. The last go-round with the Artisan,
management presented us with a contract to consider which is about
as long as a purchase agreement for a new car! It contained, among
other things, such drek as a parking charge for more than 50 guests!

We owe the volunteers who have worked on the Drink And Drag
proposal either a go-ahead, or a "thanks but no thanks" response.

For those who may be concerned about following procedure, please
consider the proposal to be a motion raised by either me (Annie)
or Cami, pick one, and seconded by the other.

Those of voting status can expect to receive a special ballot
mailing shortly. If you're of voting status and do not receive
this within a reasonable time, please write in and explain the
circumstances.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Final evening:

Alanna has reported that plans are set for our final evening at
Bahama Breeze, same basic plans as last year. ("If it ain't broke,
don't fix it!") :)

This will be the fifth year we've used Bahama Breeze for our
closing evening. For the past four years it's been our second
best attended activity each year and it's been consistently
rated highly on both the enjoyment and comfort scales.

Big thanks to Alanna for coordinating this!

Beginner activities:

Jane writes:

> Jane (and all), your thoughts on beginner activities please?

Hello everyone

I do not not know where to begin or what to do. I do not have the
slightist idea of where do this. I would need help if I were to do
this. Any suggestions anyone?
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

(Late note: My response was composed before JoAnn's suggestion
above came in. If you prefer JoAnn's suggested timeslots, my
offer to assist still stands. We might consider both, a social
on Sunday and a Beginner Dinner thing on Tuesday/Wednesday.)

I'll throw out some suggestions, and I'll go as far as to say I'll
volunteer to help you with this if nobody else wants to do so.

I would suggest following Ginger's rule of keeping things simple.

I really don't think such a thing as a private suite would really
be necessary. What's needed is a nonthreatening environment which
is convenient, and a timeslot as early in the week as possible to
get the confidence level up so the newbees can feel comfortable
doing the various activities of DLV.

The place that comes to mind almost immediately is the bar area
at the Artisan. This is about as "safe" as can be! Have something
like an extended early happy hour on Sunday and/or Monday starting
3 or 4pm or so. No sign-up, just show up.

Have a little degree of structure, but it doesn't have to be very
complicated. Make sure everyone is introduced to everyone else and
that everyone present is included in the goings-on. Maybe do a
roundtable where everyone tells the group a little about themselves
and try to address any concerns they may have.

What is really needed is an environment where the uneasy newbees
can ease into things and get accommodated without that "thrown
to the wolves" feeling they might get walking in cold to something
like the Welcome Celebration. From the feedback I've heard from the
newest of the beginners, two items of anxiety are common. One is
the unsure feeling of presenting in the new gender role in public
with little or no experience. Another is the uneasiness of joining
a group when they do not know anyone. A nice informal get-together
could easily contend with both of these.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Moroccan dining:

Rosada writes:

> As to when it would fit best on the schedule, that depends on
> what size of a dining group you want.

The final size of the group would ultimately be set by the amount of
interest this event generates. But for now you can put it down for 10-15
max. I'm not sure how many of our gals would want to pay the price for
this experience. Even if we get less than 10 we can still host this.

This is why I'm putting it out there now so I might get a good idea as
to how much interest there is.
. . . . . . . . . . .

Thanks Rosada.

Since you said 10-15, we'll assume a smaller affair on Tuesday. If
you want this in another timeslot, yell.

It will be very difficult to gauge the actual level of interest for
something like this prior to activity sign-up. If you want, you can
post a note in the Discussion Forum asking for a show of hands, but
in the past, said requests elicit a handful of responses at best.

We should have a very good handle on the demand for this in early
April, about a week after activity sign-up starts

Mob or flapper attire would be fun on Fremont St.after the WC also.

The Mob Museum was "mentioned" by Bob in a previous mailing, but
the words "I volunteer" are not there. Crystal volunteered to

do try. I really don't mind bringing up the rear to make sure no one
gets lost going back.

Yes, let's hook that up for Tuesday. I found their website...how in the
hell can you have a "non-smoking zen room"? Does that mean no tobacco
smoking?

It looks like the karaoke is only three hours long on Tuesday, 8-11pm,
hardly long enough for me to get my fix, but I'll sing a few numbers.

Their open Wednesdays might be an opportunity to do something, for those
who aren't going to the erotic heritage museum.
. . . . . . . . . .

You're on the schedule for Tuesday. Thanks.

If you want to do something at Crewsn on Wednesday as well, please
let us know, but it's understandable if you don't want to go up
against EHM.

Maybe after EHM?

The Zen Room must be what they called the Soft Room back in the
Zingers days.
