Org List:

This is the DLV 2012 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not

Moving forward:

We're asking all of you, and in particular those of you who are
new to the DLV volunteer scene, to give us your thought and your
feelings regarding what you would like to see at DLV 2012.

You can speak in very general terms ("I would like to see more
shows on the schedule") or in very specific terms ("I want to plan
a dinner at Famous Dave's.") and we'll promise that if you suggest
something, there will be no coercion to volunteer to do it.

Please look at the list below for some ideas and suggestions for
things that we can include with DLV 2012.

Your thoughts, please.

JoAnn Sez:

I can see that it doesn't take long for Annie to move beyond the
after-glow of Diva Week - 2011.

Yes, the "devil is in the details..." and we are now slowly starting to
ramp-up to keep all of us engaged for the 2012 Diva Gathering and its
details.

I'm ready, but not so excited as Sarah [below] with her ----
"Woohoo!". But that did get my attention.

Keeping in touch on these e-mails are very important to assure we have
continued communication that keeps us ready to do what this Group does
so well --- Organize !!!

So keep in touch. Give your feedback.

Hug to you all.... JoAnn

Made my day:

Sarah writes:

Woohoo! I was so ready to see this announcement that you made my
day and possibly my week.

I wanted to let you know that both Sue and Mia assisted with the
Erotic Heritage Museum tour and were there to offer informal help
at my other activities. I think that may be sufficient to move them
to the org group, and I believe they would both be enthusiastic
in their participation.
. . . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Sarah.

Yes, both of them definitly qualify for voting status due to this
and they have been added. Thanks to both Mia and Sue for helping
out with this! :)

Group photo:

Rosada writes:

>The group photo did not happen. Judged to be impractical as
>planned.

Rosada here, I would like to suggest that if the Welcome Event is
held again at the Artisan, and there's no reason that I've hears
as to why it shouldn't be held there, that the group photo be taken
somewhere else with a very recognizable Las Vegas Backdrop, such as
the FSE.

I know you'll probably say no because of the logistics and you want
maximum participation, but people in the past who've chosen not to
be in the group photo have had this option. It could be the same
here. If you don't want to be in the photo, then don't go to the
FSE for the photo. We could even make the FSE event a late night
event after the Welcome celebration. Imagine all the looks from
the tourists when FSE gets mobbed by a bunch of TGs and Drag
Queens.
. . . . . . . . . .

Let's discuss this ...

First, a few Big Burning Questions:

1. Do we want or need a yearly large-group photo?

2. If #1 is yes, which is more important, an appropriate setting
or a maximum number of attendees in the photo?

3. If the Group Photo were a stand-alone activity, not happening
at in conjunction with another activity, would there be enough
interest in it to get a meaningful turnout for the photo?

We've done a Group Photo off and on. Some years it was deemed to
be unnecessary, and in other years it was deemed a priority. The
various group photos are some of the most viewed items on our web
site.

Comments on any of this, gang?

Activity suggestions:

We would like to open a long-term discussion on activities which
will make up DLV 2012, and a number of suggestions, some new, some
reflective, appear on the DLV 2011 Attendee Survey.

These are most of the new or notable activity suggestions from
the survey.

When we get multiple suggestions for similar activities, it does
indicate a definite degree of interest.

Almost all of these are practical and workable. For any of them to
happen, however, one or more of us will need to adopt them and do
what's needed to make them happen.

These are grouped in some very general categories. Please feel free
to comment on any of these or to expand the list.

Your comments on any of these are welcome.
. . . . . . . . . .

First, some suggestions for recreational and participatory things.

+Poker tournament

I know that we have somebody interested in coordinating this. I
also know that we do have at least a few who enjoy playing in the
LV card rooms.

Horseshoe downtown was mentioned as a possible venue.

This would make either a great daytime activity, or else a good
multi-track evening activity.

+Bring back the boat trip.

Of all of the "bring back ..." requests, this one has recurred
since the last time this happened.

+pool tournament

+Ten pin Bowling at Red Rock hotel and casino.

We've had bowling, although not in recent years, and we've had
informal billiards sessions, but not anything organized.
. . . . .

"Theme" evenings are a recurring suggestion, and we've had a
number of these over the years, such as Red Shoe Night.

+Event with Little Black Dress or animal print theme.

Yes, something like this could work. All it takes is for someone
to fill in some details and move forward with it.

Ginger had mentioned a "prom" theme evening, which has been a
recurring suggestion over the years, and mentioned the Escape
Lounge as a possible venue for this.

+I want to work out one or more events at the Escape Lounge where
+I am friends with a bartender who formerly worked in Knoxville.

I don't know for sure if that's Ginger's suggestion, but I do
suspect it is. :)
. . . . .

Multiple requests for shopping activities this year ...

+Mainstream mall shopping trip

+Thrift or discount shopping trip.

+Shopping at the Miricle Mile at Planet Hollywood

+Shoe Shopping!!! :)

We've had shopping excursions off and on going back to the very
early years of DLV. Some have been well-attendd and highly rated
while others were not.
. . . . .

And multiple suggestions for shows.

+shows such as Frank Marino etc.

+Celine Dion Concert at Ceasar's Forum Coliseum

+headliner shows

+Other mainstream shows like Cirque.

+V Theater is also an option (in Miracle Mile Shoppes).

+Cirque du Soleil's Zumaity at New York New York

Over the years, show activities have been some of our best-attended
and most highly rated.

Shows do tend to involve some tricky planning, consisting of "real
work" and often times some front money. The big issue always seems
to be how to get the group seated together.

Back in our early years when most shows (still) had maitre d'
seating, it was easy to have our people seated together while
paying separately by simply applying "grease" as needed. "We will
take care of the showroom staff" was usually sufficient to assure
cooperation.

Nowadays most of the shows have assigned seating, and it can be a
challenge getting a group seated together.

If anyone can come up with some effective ideas on how to work
around this challenge, please say so.
. . . . .

We usually get several dining suggestions, and this year was no
exception.

+I would add a Bar-b-q place and a Chinese place to the collection.

+How about breakfast at the Hash House in IP?

+Strings Italian Restaurant

+You might also try a buffet for supper time and not just lunch.

+Suggest dinner at the Effiel Tower next year,

+Carnevinos in the Palazzo

+Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris

+Grand Lux several times at the Palazzo.

Dining activities for DLV are usually on three scales:

1. Smaller groups, for the multi-track evenings. "Eating Out
Night" and the like. Almost trivial to organize. A minimalist
approach is to simply name a place and agree to be there to
welcome the others. Use available tables. Examples would be
Milano's, Mon Ami Gabi, Caesars Buffet, etc.

2. Mid-scale dining. Usually requires some busy work to pull it
off, but it's not too intense. Chapapa's, Margaritaville, Trevi,
etc. are examples.

3. Large gatherings. Artisan, Carluccio's, Bahama Breeze, and
some others, typically used in conjunction with our largest
get-togethers of the event. Yes, these will require planning
and coordination.

Please be thinking about dining activities. Everybody has to
eat! :)
. . . . .

Now let's talk about nightclubs {sigh!} ...

Suggestions regarding the oh-so-trendy clubs come in regularly.

+and clubs like TRYST, XS, PURE, LAX, JET, etc.

+Pure Nightclub

Let's discuss ... Dissenting opinions are welcome ...

In our 15 year history, we've had several cases where our people
have gone to, or attempted to go to these various clubs.

Help me out of I'm forgetting something, but I can't remember a
single report, from any DLVers, of a trip to of these clubs along
the lines of "well received", "had a blast", "very friendly crowd",
"can't wait to do it again", etc.

What I can remember are reports of such things as ...

1. Restroom issues at the club at the top of Rio.

2. A group of our people being turned away by the door staff at
one of the Wynn clubs.

3. Misunderstanding about "no cover" for our group at Studio 54.

It's my impression that these clubs simply do not want our business.

Their model specifically caters to two narrow demographics:

A. Guys who are willing to spend quite a bit of money.

B. Very attractive 20-something females.

If you don't fit in either A or B, the staff of said clubs would
prefer that you stay away.

If anyone can show any evidence that any of the trendy clubs,
with the exception of Krave, wish to admit TG customers whose
age averages in the 50s, please let it be known.

(over)
. . . . .

We had a number of various touristy suggestion this year ...

+How about the Carol Shelby museum at the LV speedway.

+Maybe a trip to the new bypass bridge by Hoover dam.

+How about that sky-line rope ride down on Freemont st.

+Yes, go up in the Eiffel Tower or Stratosphere Tower as a group.

+Shark tank at Mandelay Bay

+How about a tour of celebrities homes.

+Trip to see the Pawn Stars.

Some of these would work for daytime activities, others (Paris,
Fremont Zip Line) might be better at night.

Any takers for any of these?
. . . . .

And a number of lounge/bar type suggestions ...

+Escape Lounge (Show on Thursday)

+Flamingo, X burlesque University (XBU)

+piano bar at Palazzo or V Bar might be nice.

+107 Lounge at Stratosphere.

+Toby Keiths bar at Harrahs.

+cosmopolitan - vesper bar

Toby Keith's could fit in as either a dining or lounge activity.
So could Level 107, actually.

. . . . .

These next two are new this year.

Requests for more attention to those who are either new to DLV
or else new to going out.

+New Beginner introduction or orientation session, please.

+I hope this isn't to far out. A "beginner dinner out" if you
+get what I mean. For newer girls who are nervous about a main-
+stream restaurant. You know, taking the seat, ordering off the
+menu, what wine to order, holding the wine glass, how to eat
+like a lady.

Would there be interest in working things like this into our
Beginner Open House sessions?
