Org List:
This is the DLV 2011 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Moving forward:
We have a firm decision. Thanks to all who participated.
Now, onward and upward!
If anyone sent anything to the ORG list and it has not appeared
in an ORG mailing, please send a reminder.
We'll be sending a "for real" activity sign-up batch to the ORG
list members very shortly, as in within the next half hour or so.
This is real and live, and you can do your activity sign-up and
help us shake out any remaining sign-up issues.
Please report any errors or issues promptly. Depending on how
things go, we'll start sending out sign-up mailings to the
Teeming Millions either later this evening or tomorrow morning.
Again, thanks to all for the suggestions, comments, and most of
all cooperation over the past few days.
And once again, BIG THANKS to Cynthia and Marisa for their
dedication and efforts on the Welcome Celebration!

Artisan/DCR vote results:
The tribe has spoken!
Not unanimous, but a very strong majority on this one.
Here's the count:
a. Artisan Hotel: 12
b. Downtown Cocktail Room: 4
c. None of the above: 0
d. ABSTAIN: 3
Cynthia, please pull any triggers which have yet to be pulled
and firm up things.
Thanks to all for the prompt responses and cooperation on this
issue. For those concerned about the accelerated voting time,
the magnitude of the margin shows that increasing the timeout
to our usual 48 hours would not likely affect the outcome.

JoAnn's words:
As I see it...
and thanks to Marisa and Cynthia for the follow-ups--
In a stress situation, and no perfect solutions; however, with
reasonable prices, excellent ambiance, and a welcoming attitude
of management --- I say the Artisan should be our selection for
Opening Event.
Let us see how me can make it "work" rather than consider the
alternatives !!
>I have just returned from Artisan Hotel Boutique Restaurant
>and Ultra Lounge, where I concluded very fruitful negotiations
A job well done... Have faith and results will happen.
With appreciations and thank you.
Follow-up on the details, yet be flexible.
Hugs to all .. JoAnn

Soup or salads are $4-$12,sandwich or wraps with salad, frys or
chips are $8-$12 and entrees are $12-$35. Check it out at
I talked to the people at Artisan about parking and they have
plenty of space available for their valet only parking. $1 or
more is the usual tip for valet, even though I'm protective of
my Honda clutch, I would use their valet.
Hey I'm excited about the Artisan option even though I brought up
the DCR option! Way to go Cynthia!
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
The fact that the one who proposed the "opposing" option (you)
is speaking so highly in favor of the Artisan option is affirming
in that it shows we are making the right decision.
I admit that I did share the concerns, but as of this time I am
very confident that we'll be able to work around them for a
great turnout!
Marisa, please convey our thanks to the management of the DCR
and let them know that we'll definitely keep them in mind for
other activities in the future.

Cynthia writes (quoted):
Hi Divas,
Holy shucks,
>I thought I was off the hook already; when you're ready with
>some firm-up decisions and figures: bigger menu, anyone? More
>choices?
IMAO, the best option, both for maximizing the number of meals
sold and the overall satisfaction is to do the full menu, even
with caveats of slower service at the peak time.
>Should I adjust any numbers to them?
This is your call. The numbers I've been tossing around are
minima and those you used were realistic estimates of bodies
through the door and meals sold.
>Just let me know, and I'll bring it to their attention while
>we still got the time to negotiate let's put these little fires
>out now while we still can and they are amenable to it.
You know their staff much better than I do. It's up to you to
adjust the numbers if you want. If I were doing this, I would
hold off until we get a handle on how the sign-ups are going in
maybe a week or so.
>This will, of course, eliminate any of those pesky little last
>minute changes that might tend to frustrate them and cause bad
>vibes for the future. As of right now the entire affair is sweeter
>than French perfume.
I think the only chance for souring the relationship between us
and Artisan would be an overall poor turnout or a meal count far
lower than our final estimate.
Unless something totally unforeseen happens, I'm confident that
our final numbers will be within a 10-15% range of the actual
turnout and meals sold.
I can say with almost absolute certainty that they will do a
very brisk bar business!
>Annie, I think I mentioned to them that we keep on-going stats
>and that we could supply adjusted numbers to them on a daily
>basis, as you suggested, you just let me know.
Yes, the numbers are updated hourly. You, as the Coordinator of
the activity, will have web access to it. It will give you a
list of who is currently signed up and a machine-generated
estimate of the participation, based upon the historical show-up
and no-show rates of various categories of attendees.
The only number you will not get with this is the extrapolated
total show-up estimate. The estimated turnout at any given time
is based on those currently signed up. This will eventually
converge on the final number as we get closer to DLV week. We
should start seeing meaningful numbers within a week or so of
when activity sign-up starts.
>Other than that, I really can't think of anything else. The
>Artisan is going to be what we make of it - the prettier you
>dress, the prettier you'll look; not expensive, just pretty !!
>and you'll be competeing with some pretty fancy digs and all
>that artwork too. It's a very unique place and if you've never
>seen it you are in for a very unique experience. I really
>enjoyed setting this one up and it is my fondest wish you will
>all attend and enjoy it.
>Note to Rosada: sign me up for the Shilo Horse Ranch Trip on
>Tues., I'm going to bring a bag of apples for them, also, the
>phrase you refer to in your comment is normally applied to
>"opinions", not "assumptions", but yeah,I got an opinion too.

Group Photo:
>We will have to look around for a good spot for the group photo
>and whoever does it will probably need a powerful or extra flash
>because the light level is pretty low just about everywhere in
>the lobby, bar and dining room.
Cynthia: Please look over the property and be thinking of a good
location for a group photo.
I'm far more concerned about enough physical space to get 100-ish
people assembled than I am with lighting. I do have a bare-bulb
honker of a flash unit which has to be registered as a weapon in
six states. :) I also have what's known as a rectilinear untra-
wide (non-fisheye) lens, so I know that if we can get them all
assembled with faces visible, we'll get some good shots.
