Moving forward with the dates:

JoAnn Here---

Annie writes in this e-mail requesting us to be sure to give
feedback on the dates for Diva Week 2011. people might be
ready to take a vote, soon. So I encourage you to read Annie's
note below on this topic and respond, hopefully, in the next
week.

It is also 'ok' to let us know you are ready to vote and wish
to move on to programming. As Annie might say: "This is JoAnn
who likes to simplify and streamline". In response: I would
say if we have finished addressing the topic, let's us now move
by letting us know that you are ready to vote on the date, and
then we can move on. I'm sure we will find many other important
topics waiting to be addressed.

Nikki and Holly -- thanks for your feedback. It is included
below.

Date discussion:

Annie writes:

>Specifically, I hope that you share your thoughts and give
>all of the Organization Group [especially myself] with
>feedback and/or exchange of inputs, concerns, preferences,
>etc. etc. regarding the dates for the Diva Week

I would echo this, and encourage all to make their thoughts
and feelings about the various proposed timeframes known.

We really haven't had very much of the "I prefer this set of
dates because ..." and "This week will not work for me because"
type of comments. We have usually received many of these in
years past. This is the kind of feedback we really need!

>From my own personal perspective, all of the proposed weeks
appear to be about equally workable for me, so my preference
will be for the week that will generate us the best turnout,
providing there are no serious conflicts for those who are
significantly involved in organizing DLV.

In reviewing the proposed weeks ...

>>Sunday, March 20 thru Friday March 25
>>Sunday, March 27 thru Friday, April 1
>>Sunday, April 3 thru Friday, April 8

These three weeks all occur prior to Easter, during lent,
and I have a feeling that due to various family and religious
commitments and such, this factor would slightly but still
somewhat significantly impact our turnout. Things Lenten in
nature, such as self-sacrifice, personal restraint, etc.,
and, of course, being home with the family.

We've had a few academic comments WRT Lent, but not much in
the way of personal reflections as to how much Lent may or
may not impact our turnout.

>>Monday, April 25 thru Saturday April 30

The more I think about it, the more I think this is our best
pick overall. Yes, it abuts Easter and covers one partial day
of Passover, but we've been in that situation before with very
minimal griping.

>>Monday, May 9 thru Saturday, May 14th

Despite the fact that over 95% of DLV occurs within climate
controlled conditions, there's a perception that once we pass
that May threshold, the Las Vegas weather all of a sudden turns
horrendously hot and remains so throughout the month of May.
I envision that some would use this as an excuse to skip DLV
should we plan it for this week.

It also abuts Mothers Day, and historically we've seen far
more griping due to interfering with Mothers Day plans than
we have from interfering with Easter plans.

>In the past I have seen that as we near the deadline for the
>"call of the question on a topic" there is a "race to the
>deadline" with last minute inputs which makes it difficult
>for the rest of us to have enough time to follow-up with
>responses.

Yes, this is a pattern which has occurred in the past, and
I would encourage all, particularly those who have any issue
of any significance with any of the proposed timeframes, to
speak sooner, rather than later.

I'm also going to try to suggest that we concentrate our
effort and discussion on the proposed timeframes, as in
which is the best for the program as a whole and why.

There's also a tendency, particularly as the 11th hour comes
close, to concentrate on secondary and procedural issues and
let them distract from the real question, that being which
week is best for our event.

JoAnn has a different leadership style than I had, and she
is trying to streamline and simplify processes such as this
which have at times been contentious. Let's please give her
the opportunity to make things work and get the job done!

Nikki--

Thanks for responding.

We now need to see if we can get a consensus on one week that
will be the Diva Week-2011.

Your input helps to get that consensus!

Please continue to track the dialogs and give your inputs.

Holly-

Appreciate your sharing.

You have stated very well the purpose of the Lenten season
and "the insights to fasting, introspection, and that it is
not something to be 'worn as a badge' for spirituality, but
rather an opportunity to personally to reflect and live a
spiritual life, which is not in conflict with ones gender
identity. I have always believed the positive aspects of
Lent seem not to be understood.

Lent and Diva are not in conflict events.

The Diva Week selection should be the week which can accommodate
most of our busy schedules.

A couple systems issues:

I would like to ask the cooperation of all on a couple of
issues here, which may seem trivial but do result in an amount
of meaningful effort to deal with.

Please be sure that your anti-virus and anti-malware software
is current and is functioning properly. We've recently seen an
increase in junk messages, sent out in YOUR names, promoting
porn, drugs, or worse.

The items we've been seeing lately are very similar to those
sent out in the name of one of our long-time volunteers just
prior to DLV 2010. In this particular case, the user's Hotmail
e-mail account was being used to send spam without her knowledge.
Changing the Hotmail password using a known-clean machine and
updating the user's anti-virus software finally stopped it.

Second, we would like to ask all of you to do what you can to
avoid sending those semi-automated "invitations" to various
groups and sites to the DLV e-mail addresses.

Lately we seem to be inundated with invitations to such
things as Facebook, MyDailyFlog, Singlesnet, Yahoo groups,
Myspace, Linkdln, various chat rooms, etc.

Again, some of these are most likely being sent out without
your knowledge. Some of these sites can be very clever and
downright deceptive in getting you to "agree" to let them
send out promotional mailings in your name. This is often
something like an obfuscated "invite my friends" checkbox
which is pre-checked to allow the invites to be sent to all
in your local address book.

If you use a social networking site, please review your profile
and settings to be sure that any "invite my friends" options
are indeed turned off.

If you wish to announce your web site, chat facility, blog,
group, or whatever, to DLV people, please feel free to post
a non-recurring, non-automated, typed-by-your-own-hands
announcement in the DLV Discussion Forum. This is on the
web at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlvdisc/

Your cooperation on these items will be appreciated.
