Welcome:

This is JoAnn Marie starting my term as the Project Mistress (aka
Project Manager) who sees herself as the Coordinator of the many
outstanding Volunteers who really are the reason why there is the great
annual event - Diva LasVegas!

Last year's event (2010) was such a great success due to all of your
efforts that I find myself wondering how we can make 2011 even better.
This is the challenge we all need to be addressing in the coming months
as we plan 2011.

Annie and I will be looking to all of you (Volunteers, Organizating
Committee, and those "watching on the sidelines") to join in during the
next few month to help with the planning of this great event-- it has be
"an organic event... tell us what it should continue to be and what you
 want it to become!.

We welcome your thoughts, the sharing of ideas, and your efforts to make
this Diva LasVegas- 2011 --- another "gathering of great people, and a
vacation to celebrate us - Divas".

JoAnn

DLV 2011 timeframe:

To All and One---

We are now starting to plan for DIVA 2011. ..

As the volunteer for .project manager. [but without being paid the BIG
BUCKS] JoAnn Marie here [aka shortcut---JoAnn] is officially opening the
dialog for Diva 2011 with the all important discussion regarding the
selection of next year.s dates for our Diva gathering.

Foremost--- I am approaching this task and all of those which follow
from the perspective that there are no perfect Christmas Trees, and I am
still looking to discover my first Hanukah Tree. So errors may be made,
things will not be perfect, and sometimes no matter how hard we try it
just may not work out the way we planned. With that interpretation, let
us proceed forward to develop this coming year's dates for Diva Week and
the corresponding program. I want to say that I am open to discussion,
like new ideas, and will insist we dialog and communicate in a caring
and respectful way. [We are ladies even if some of us may be accused as
being Steel Magnolias]. There are no right answers. While I look for
consensus, voting is what we must do to confirm the consensus. As
project manager I see myself as the gatekeeper and required to propose
ideas, starting points for the discussion, and to cease discussion when
it appears to me that we have kicked a dead horse long enough. In the
end, I will take the position that it is ok to agree to disagree;
however, I will not be patient with people who are not respectful with
this process.

This is your event, so please, don't kill the messenger. JoAnn, Annie,
and the Organization Committee.

Having said all of that, let's move forward endeavoring to establish
dates for Diva 2011----

First, the schedule for processing this discussion, so we can gather a
consensus on the date options and then have a selection vote:

August 15 Announce possible DIVA dates for 2001
August 16 - September 30 Discussion on the possible dates
October 3 Announce the voting date slate for Diva 2011
October 4 - 15 Discussion on the voting slate
October 16 - 31 Trick or Treat --- voting closes on Halloween [31st]
November 5 Announce the DIVA Week dates.
November 6 Start the planning of events for DIVA 2011
November 10 - 30 Discussion on hotels with announced hotels on Dec 1st.

Second, the following dates are tossed out as balloons into the air to
commence dialog:

Sunday, March 20 thru Friday March 25
Sunday, March 27 thru Friday, April 1
Sunday, April 3 thru Friday, April 8
Monday, April 25 thru Saturday April 30 [Easter Sunday - April 24th]
Monday, May 9 thru Saturday, May 14th [Mother.s Day - May 8th]

Third, the parameters considered when proposing the above suggested
dates:

(a) We have had high attendance when we start on a Sunday, followed with
a major opening event on Monday and close Friday night.

(b) The starting dates of Monday suggested for the year 2011 are due to
typical major family obligations for many which occur the weekend prior
to our preferred starting Sunday date.

(c) Conflicts with other major conventions appear not to exist.

(d) Weather is within the more .comfortable range. for most attendees
during these dates.

Fourth, other modus operandi with regard to suggestions and feedback
regarding dates, etc....

(a) We can extend any selected week when we have more volunteers for
events which would occur on the Sunday prior, and for the Saturday/
Sunday following the official suggested dates.

(b) We can consider going outside the envelope of the proposed weeks
under discussion provided we receive substantiated reasons from the
person(s) proposing such, and the corresponding merits for those
suggested dates.

(c) My response dialog to the Diva dates as project manager will be to
seek clarifications with .on-point. questions.

Look forward to the dialog, insights, fruitful suggestions, and the
resultant benefits from all of the organizational volunteers which will
make Diva 2011 another great gathering.

Administrative Committee nominations:

A vacancy to fill ...

The "even year" at-large Administrative Committee seat,
currently held by Gina, expires this summer. We need to
hold an election to fill that seat.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Administrative
Committee, it's a group of DLVers responsible for the
non-activity DLV goings-on. Further information on the
Administrative Committee appears in the "Administrivia"
section of our web site.

We would like to open the floor for nominations for this
vacant seat. If you know of someone who you think would
be a good candidate for this position, please send in
a nomination. Self-nominations are appropriate.

A re-nomination of Gina would also be appropriate.

The one requirement for the Administrative Committee is
that candidates be active volunteers of voting status,
which means they must be on record for coordinating at
least one activity over the past two annual DLV events.

If you would like to nominate someone (self-nominations
are cool) for the Administrative Committee, please reply
to this mailing and say so.

Air Tours and Karaoke:

Densie writes:

>I want to volunteer to host air tours for next year's DLV.

Thanks, Densie. When we start putting the 2011 schedule
together, please think of when it would best fit.

Yes, there have been a number of requests to "bring back
Air Tours" over the past several years.

>I would like to volunteer to coordinate the karaoke for DLV
>next year, or, if someone else is already committed to do it,
>would like to be a co-volunteer for it.

>I make my own CD+G disks, mainly because most of the stuff
>that I do is "off the beaten path" and not available in
>karaoke format, and I need to talk to the KJ in advance
>and make sure that they will know how to play them. Believe
>it or not, some KJ's do not know how to play a CD+G disk!

One possibility is to coordinate things with Mindy as has
been discussed in the Discussion Forum. You'll have far
more control over things if we have a DLVer running the show
than at a club or bar.

Katie--

I encourage you with the 'general shopping trip concept' you are
proposing. Having been on three of the Diva shopping trips over the
years I can say they are fun and a small group seems to be the most
enjoyable, as we wait for the "shopping person who never gives up" at
every stop of the trip.

Some thoughts: A van is a possibility, but there is a cost to be
addressed. The photo at stores is a nice dimension. Maybe have a
raffle at a Diva Event for handbags, belts, jewelry that the group
purchased from the shopping trip? Just some thoughts. Katie, keep us
posted on your thoughts as you plan the event.
