Org List:

This is the DLV 2010 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Missing items:

Thanks to all who have sent in recent updates.

The big item is activity sign-up, which starts in two weeks!

We still need to acquire quite a few items of missing info
in order to launch this on time. If there's anything that
is hanging which pertains to you, your prompt attention
will be appreciated.

What I'm planning is to do a test mailing of the activity
sign-ups to those on record as coordinating an activity
on Monday, March 22. This will help shake out any issues
and give the committed volunteers first dibs on anything
that may be in high demand.

If all goes well, we'll start the regular batches of
sign-up mailings on Tuesday the 23rd.
. . . . .

We are still in need of a few volunteers for a few hanging
items. If you're attending this year and not coordinating
anything (you know who you are, and I do too) :) please
consider helping out here. Most of the "orphan" activities
are one step above trivial to do.
. . . . .

What is a? (What is the?)

Sarona has started a series of postings in the DLV
Discussion Forum which describe some of our activities
in detail. This is similar to the activity features we
have run in previous years.

I would like to encourage those of you who are host(ess)ing
activities to add to this series. Just write a couple of
paragraphs hitting the high spots, and in particular any
details which you think might encourage attendees to
participate in your activity.

You can post this on line at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlvdisc/

.. or you can send e-mail your posting to:

dlvdisc@geekbabe.com

The preferred method of posting is via e-mail since the
on-line message entry screen is limited and has a
capacity of only 1024 characters.
. . . . .

Latest body count:

As of this morning, 188, including 31 SO's. The magic
formula says that 152 of these will show. You may see
the numbers for total sign-up and predicted show-up
diverge over the next few weeks, as we get more and
more "cold newcomers" signed up, who are less likely
to show up. I am hoping that our expanded attention
to hospitality, such as the Beginner Open House and
the Hotel Hostess Program will help to counteract
this trend.

Registrations are coming in about one every two days or
so, slight slowdown from when we opened the general (cold
newcomer) registration about a week ago.

Three validations are currently pending. This typically
increases as we go into the cold newcomer registrations.

Laundry list:

Many of the following items need to be clarified in order for
activity sign-up to proceed. Please look over this list. If
your name is called, please respond ASAP.

I know there's been some off-line chatter about a location
for this. Any decisions?

Volunteers needed:

A few areas where we need some addition help here ...

+ 11:00am: Religious services (Metropolitan Community Church) - sv

We still need a host or hostess if this is to stay on the
schedule. This is an easy one, all you have to do is agree
to be there. Very easy ticket to voting status!

Volunteers?
. . . . .

Suzane will be babys^H^H^H^Hhostessing a mainstream
common gathering at HRC on Sunday. We still need a
host(ess) for a parallel safe/alternative gathering.

As I said in an off-line note, I will take this one
if nobody else wants to. If I do it, it will be at
someplace like Flex, Escape, Spotlight, etc. If you
take it, it's your choice as to venue.
. . . . .

Limo Tour:

We're in need of a couple volunteers for the 2010 Limo
Team. This qualifies for voting status. Duties include
such things as directing traffic, answering questions,
assisting with ticket sales, assisting with purchasing,
assisting with load-in, etc.

These positions will not be responsible for money.

We also want one of the new volunteers to go with us to
the limo office this year, to get a feel for how this is
done.

Mary Beth, Marilyn, Edy, and Marcia have "first refusal"
rights on this, but new volunteers are most welcome.
. . . . .

+Tuesday, April 20:
+ 7:00pm: Eating Out Night (Various)
+ 7:00pm: Milano's option (Milano's) - mv
+ 7:00pm: Joe's option (Joe's Crab and Steak) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Firefly option (Firefly - Plaza) - ms

Now that the Murder Mystery has been moved to Wednesday,
I think we need at least one, more comfortably two dining
options on Tuesday. Please keep in mind that we are expecting
a close-to-record total turnout this year, and we need the
combined capacity on our multi-track evenings.

Gina? Famous Dave's with Stacie? (>>>HINT<<<)

It doesn't have to be fancy, it can be loosely organized,
and no cold calling is required. Just name a place and
agree to be there to welcome the others.

This does qualify you for voting status, and is an easy
first activity for new volunteers.

Other than that, I think Tuesday evening is solid.
. . .

+Thursday, April 22:

Assuming the Pity Party plans fall into place, I would say
that Thursday is shaping up nicely. I do think that we
still need some kind of a local dining option, plain or
fancy, opposite NSD, prior to the Pity Party. I know that
both venues being discussed for the Pity Party do not
serve food.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Major gathering status:

As if being hit by a perfect storm this year, yes, some snags
have developed with our "Plan B" for the Welcome Celebration.

The PMs and the volunteers of record for the major activities
have been hashing out the options off line, and have come up
with an agreement for a "Plan C" as follows:

1. Welcome Celebration at Firefly on Fremont Street. Happy
Hour, Dinner (full menu available), and postprandial Quality
Social Time, same timing as with prior plans.

2. Ending gathering at Bahama Breeze, more or less the same
arrangements as last year. HH, din-din, QST. Tentatively in
the "Gazebo Room", but subject to preemtion.

The triggers are about to be pulled for both of these, so
if there are any concerns or objections, please speak now
or forever ...

If there are objections, please state explicit alternative
plans and yes <big snotty grin> be prepared to be called
upon to make it happen. :)

SO and Partners get-together:

Bob writes:

Thanks, Bob. It's on the schedule.

>I would also request a head count.

We'll get this on the sign-up screen.

Also, as with last year, I would suggest that you schmooze
a bit and work the crowd during the Welcome Celebration to
get some of the couples who do not sign up.

Thanks Holly. I've got it on the screen. I'm including the

Holly continues:

The following has been written up to help people decide if they want to
participate in the event and how to get signed up:

It is my pleasure to hostess our second Murder/Mystery at DLV. This
year's Murder/Mystery should be a blast! It's called Bachelorettes &
Bullets and takes place at the Bride-to-be's bridal shower.

With Mindy Mintjulius, a hot designer diva, preparing to don a wedding
gown, Mindy's gal pals have planned for one final night out on the
town. As the important people of the bachelorette's past and present
gather to celebrate her future, one guest will fall victim and end the
night without a future at all... In a party filled with menacing
models, resentful relatives and competitive coworkers, there is only
one that will be found guilty and forbidden to go free. Will it be the
jealous sister who desires to be a bridesmaid? The unsuspecting
employee who was overlooked for a promotion? The veteran model that is
vindicating her spot on the runway? Or possibly the mother of the
groom that is as wicked as she is wealthy? All of the guests are
guilty until proven innocent in this puzzling party filled with
vengeful vixens and ferocious fashionistas.

Participation is limited to the first twenty paid guests.

(NOTE-Signing up on the DLV sign-up page will NOT guarantee your
participation.

They only way to guarantee your spot is to pre-pay by following the
directions below). The cost for this year's event is $45 and includes
all the materials you need to participate in the mystery, a catered
meal, snacks throughout the evening, beverages, champagne to toast the
bride-to-be, a souvenir group photo of the evening and a few other
surprises as well.

Payment may be made via credit/debit card by contacting Just You/Glamour
Boutique, (866) 692-1800. Cut-off date for payments is {April 15th}. At
the time payment is made, make sure you provide an email address. If you
are making a reservation for more than one person, make sure you give an
email address for each participant you are paying for. Within a couple
of days, you will be emailed detailed information on your character(s)
along with suggestions on dressing for the part as well as other
information about the party.

Several prizes will be awarded including best actress, best detective,
and Ms. Money Bags. Each guest is also requested to bring a wrapped gift
for the bride ($10-20). Everyone will go home with something!

Bachelorettes & Bullets will be held on {Wednesday, April 21, 2010}
starting at 7:00PM at Just You/Glamour Boutique, 714 E. Sahara Ave,
Suite #104 Las Vegas, NV 89104. If you have any questions, you can
contact me via email, hollycd1@verizon.net.

FAQ's

Q. Do I have to memorize lines?

A. No! The party is unscripted. You will receive a bio of your
character and some information that possibly only you know. What you
do with that information is up to you. On the evening of the party,
you will be given additional information and some tasks to perform both
before and after the murder (unless you are the victim ). You will be
interacting with the other guests and they with you throughout the
evening, passing information (or misinformation) back and forth to each
other. This is a chance to let your imagination run wild!

Q. How long will the party last?

A. Plan on about three hours. Remember we will be dining as well.

Q. Can I participate at a reduced rate if I opt out of the meal?

A. Sorry, no. The meal is an integral part of the evening and the
logistics of keeping track of who has paid or not paid would just be too
consuming. Considering you are getting food, drink, entertainment,
souvenirs and more, the cost is quite reasonable!

Q. Can I just come and watch without participating?

A. Again, I'm sorry, but no. The whole point is to be interactive with
the other guests. (And besides, if you wanted to participate at a
later date, knowing who the victim and murderer are would spoil it for
you).

Q. How dressy do I have to get?

A. That's totally up to you. But time has shown, the more creative you
are with costuming, the more active you are in the part and the more
fun you will have! Maybe this is the night to try something you
normally wouldn't do? The whole point is to have fun with it! And
don't forget the resources available to you at Just You/Glamour
Boutique. Their staff and artisans are more than able to assist you
with any look you want to achieve, Book your appointment early.
. . . . .

Thanks, Holly.

If you have no objection I'm going to repost this as a "What is A/The"
item in the discussion forum just prior to activity sign-up.

HRC refusal:

Kate writes:

>I can't find the original notice on the subject of the First
>night celebration cancellation of the Hard Rock Cafe. I don't

>floor.

The reason is that the person who made the initial agreements
with Suzane is no longer with the firm, and the current GM
is declining to stand behind the arrangements that were agreed
upon, instead, offering what was agreed upon for MANY TIMES
the original price, or the use of the second floor with no
negotiation on the level of the music.

It's obvious to me that both Suzane on our side and Peter Lin
on the HRC side acted in good faith on all parts. This un-named
GM is who I would name, if you want a name to blame. Quite
honestly, if he (and I am very convinced it's a he with an ego
to match) treats other groups like he has ours, he won't be in
the position next year, so there's the possibility we can
circle back to the 2010 plans for 2011.

Well, be careful what you ask for, you may get it! As of this
minute and second, it looks like you got your wish for no
Blue Ox!

As for HRC, this will be one of the dining options for
Sunday, followed by a "Mainstream" common gathering.

>There are others who are disappointed also but they have
>not chosen to write in, which is a shame as the democratic

If there are concerns with Blue Ox or with any facility we
use, we need to know about it, but for us to consider it
we need to hear it directly from them, in the first person.

We've been over this before. We don't want to be making
key decisions on the basis of hearsay.

>Please let us know what their reasons why they decided to

>such as this.

Yes, this perplexes me as well! The only reason I can think of,
and this is just an intuitive hunch, not backed by any facts,
is that they may have found some suck^H^H^H^Hgroup willing to
reserve the third floor on that evening for a higher price,
and they made the counter-offer (five figures worth) to us
to allow us to out-bid the other group, as they may have done
to us. It may even be somebody well-connected or a celebrity
who could have bounced us, but I do not know for sure. I am
really at a total loss to come up with any other reasons.

>I don't want to waste my time going there later in the week
>if they are rejecting us for the obvious reasons.

HRC has been consistently GLBT-friendly by policy and in
practice. If there were some kind of anti-TG bias going on
in the HRC in Las Vegas, I'm sure word would have gotten
out about it.

We're using HRC for one common gathering on Sunday and I
am using HRC Harmon for a HH on Tuesday.

Limo night:

Ok, let's review the limo timing and length.

For last year, and tentatively for this year, the Limo Tour
starts at 9:30pm, posted time. The "meter starts running"
when all limos are present, which is usually a few minutes
after the posted time. For a three hour tour (chorus: "A
Three Hour Tour") this means that conclusion time will be
roughly 12:45am the next morning.

>I know this is something very new and I realize it would

>etc' to and from the M might add a laugh or two to the experience
>and some good memories too.

The main problem with the M Resort is that it's way out in
the toolies! Whether it would be an extension of the Limo
Tour time or just one destination in the normal time, the
visit to M would consume about an hour total of tour time.

One principle which is agreed upon for this year's Limo
Tour is to stick to known-favorite destinations. One
"lesson learned" the hard way last year was the less
than spectacular response to some new and different
destinations. The stop at Goodtimes (to meet up with the
DLV gang down there for Karaoke and to allow for a "safe"
bio break) laid an egg badly! The response to stopping at
the World's Largest Gift Shop<tm> was universally along
the line of "WTF is this $#!+." :(

>I suspect it would add about 1 hour or so to the Tour and
>likely $10 / person to the tab.

The cost of the Limo Tour is very closely proportional to
the length of the tour. The major components of this cost
are the hourly charge for the car, and the C2H5OH consumed
per hour. Adding an hour to the tour means a 33% hike,
which translates to an increase from (tentative prices)
$45 to $60 for the A ticket and from $60 to $80 for the
E ticket. These prices would push (exceed?) the limit
of what our people are willing to pay.

>Please throw this one out there and see if anyone is
>interested.

Well, I'll bring it up to the Limo Team. However, I
really don't expect many of the participants in the
Limo Tour to be willing to spend the time and/or the
money to make such an out of the way stop possible.

I will make some suggestions if you want to extend the
time with the other riders or add continuity to the
evening. The obvious one is to simply walk over to
the Charles Bar early and socialize without Charles
for an hour or so. I'm sure there will be some of
our non-limo people there early as well. Another
option is to gather at one of the casino bars at
Caesars for an hour or so and then wander over to
the Bellagio in time for Charles.
