Happy New Year:

It's 2010! :)

The big load of re-registration e-mail went out on Friday
and as of this morning we have 88 validated attendees. Of
these, the magic machine says that 79 of them will show.

We hit the 80 mark less than 2 days into re-registration,
indicating a very brisk response.

One factoid which was pointed out to me recently is that
there are a number of formerly-successful TG events which
were cancelled or abandoned in 2009, and are not expected
to hold sessions in 2010. This will most likely increase
the demand for TG events, and we may very well pick up a
number of these events' former regulars. This, among other
things, leads me to suspect that we will have a very large
turnout in April!
. . . . .

Two housekeeping items, which unfortunately do apply to a
few of the ORG list people here. :(

1. Cross-registered couples are a frustrating item. (One
couple registered under two names, one or each listing the
other as SO.) This inflates our numbers and can really
cause grief at activity sign-up time. Further, when I
send out notes about it, maybe 1/2 of them respond, and
those who do either don't seem to understand or don't seem
to care about it. In any case, from now on when cross-
registered couples are discovered, they will be simply
changed to two individual registrations. That seems to be
the easiest way to deal with it. Your understanding is
appreciated.

2. Spam control.

We've recently had to increase the level of automated spam
control on several DLV-related e-mail accounts. The one
thing that you should be aware of (and there are a few on
the ORG list who do this somewhat regularly) is that when
those semi-automated invitations to various social networking
sites are received, they are immediately recognized as spam
(nuisance e-mail) and the person sending them gets put on a
list of "possible spammers" automatically. This means that
any further e-mail from that address gets checked closely,
and if the spam control software thinks it's spam, we never
see it!

Please, do not send invites (MyDailyFlog, Zorpia, Facebook,
etc.) to any DLV (or Pinkfest) e-mail addresses.
. . . . .

Correction: The ending Formal is scheduled for Friday of
DLV week. There was an error in the latest general mailing.

Activities and volunteers:

Overall, things are looking very good for this time of the
year. Our Welcome Celebration appears to be solid, and plans
are moving for the final evening Pity-Formal.

Let's go over some of the hanging items, weak spots in the
schedule, and areas where we need some work, details, or
clarification.

Please, if you see your name mentioned here, some kind of
response, even if it's "hold on, I'm thinking about it"
would be appreciated. :)
. . . . . . . . . .

Vivian Wells?

Fremont Street Experience?

Last call! About to be dropped for lack of interest.

Anyone else interested in host(ess)ing this.
. . . . .

Tracy?

M Resort?

Any decisions on when you want this to be scheduled?

In looking at the schedule, I can envision this working
on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, even possibly Sunday.
. . . . .

Britney? Diane? Others?

Boat Tour? Do we want this to happen this year? There are
a number of daytime timeslots into which this would fit.
. . . . .

Jam Session? Susan R? Any movement on this?
. . . . .

Sarah? Joann? Marisa? Randi?

Art Tour?

Any thoughts or movement? Preferred timeslot(s)?
. . . . .

Norma? Any movement on the Harmony Nail Spa Open House? In
looking at the schedule weaknesses (below) I might suggest
Wednesday morning and/or afternoon for this. Wednesday is
probably the best to avoid going up against another of the
commercial activities.
. . . . .

Ginger? SBS Social?

Any thoughts about timeslot?
. . . . .

Susan W?

Any further thoughts about the SO Big Sister Program?
. . . . .

Ginger? Mary Beth? Kimberly Kael?

Any decisions on lunch locations? Walk-off (Friday) location?
. . . . . . . . . .

Now, let's go over the schedule day by day, summarizing
where we stand, where we are good, where we have holes,
and where the tight spots may be. ...

One very important need:

In a few places we have a need for more smaller-group dining
activities. This is a very good opportunity for a newer
volunteer. This is a quick and easy step to voting status.

For a minimalist approach, just pick a place and agree to be
there on time. Do a headcount and take available tables. Of
course, if you want, you can do the reservation thing.

One particular former volunteer who used to do quite a few
of these will not be with us this year, so this will be of
particular importance for DLV 2010.

If you don't know what to pick, here are some suggestions
from last year's feedback:

Famous Dave's BBQ (Gina, HINT!) :)
Cafe Heidelberg (German)
Tony Roma's BBQ
IHOP
M Resort
Blueberry Hill
PT's Pub
Roy's

There are many others. See the Big List if you need to:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/vendors/

At last count there were 41 places listed in the "food"
category, so finding a TG-friendly dining establishment
should not be an issue.
. . . . .

Anyway, day by day ...

+Sunday, April 18:

Sunday does have a number of activities, but a few holes
which need to be covered.

+ 0:01am: Rocky Horror Picture Show (Onyx Theater) - sv
+ 10:00am: Religious services (Metropolitan Community Church) - sv
+ 2:00pm: Studio Lites Open House (Studio Lites) - mv
+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour options (various)
+ 6:00pm: Irish Pub Happy Hour (McMullan's) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Dinner options (Various)
+ 7:00pm: Irish Pub Dinner (McMullan's) - ms
+ 9:00pm: After-dinner common gathering (TBA) - mv

Obvious weak spots are a lack of a lunch activity (do we
really need this on Sunday?), a need for at least 1-2
smaller dinner options, and a need for some kind of a
common gathering on Sunday evening.

Ideas?

Volunteers?
. . . . .

+Monday, April 19:

I think that Monday is all set.

+ 10:30am: Makeover Tips with Stacey (Bare Escentuals) - mv
+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (TBA) - ms
+ 3:00pm: Beginner Open House (See notes) - sv
+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour (Hard Rock Cafe Strip) - mv
+ 7:00pm: Dinner (Hard Rock Cafe Strip) - mv
+ 8:00pm: Welcome Meet and Greet (Hard Rock Cafe Strip) - mv

There's a possible open timeslot for some kind of afternoon
activity, but I think there are other daytime timeslots that
are far more needy than Monday. In particular for Monday, we
don't want to schedule anything that may spoil the turnout
from 6:00pm on for the Hard Rock Welcome Celebration.
. . . . .

+Tuesday, April 20:

Also, Tuesday is filling out nicely with only a few weak spots.

+ 8:00am: Diva Las Vegas Invitational Golf (Desert Rose) - ms
+ 10:30am: Makeover Tips with Stacey (Bare Escentuals) - mv
+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Mary Beth (TBA) - ms
+ 3:00pm: Beginner Open House (See notes) - sv
+ 7:00pm: Murder Mystery Interactive Dinner-Theater (tba) - sv
+ 7:00pm: Eating Out Night (Various)
+ 7:00pm: Milano's option (Milano's) - mv
+ 7:00pm: Joe's option (Joe's Crab and Steak) - ms
+ 8:30pm: Mainstream-Alternative Night (Various)
+ 8:30pm: Pub Crawl (TBA) - sv
+ 9:00pm: Viva Elvis show (Aria - City Center) - ms
+ 9:30pm: Divas - Frank Marino Show (Imperial Palace) - ms

Tuesday afternoon has room for some kind of daytime thing,
but it's not a glaring hole.

We are in need of 2 (or more) Eating Out Night options, since
both Milano's and Joe's are limited in capacity. This would
be an excellent opportunity for those who are new to the DLV
volunteer scene.

There's room for one more evening activity, but again, not a
major need. We have four solid options including two shows
in the Tuesday evening timeslot.
. . . . .

+Wednesday, April 21:

Wednesday is another day with some openings, both daytime
and evening.

+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (TBA) - ms
+ 2:00pm: SO and Partners Get-together (TBA) - ms
+ 3:00pm: Beginner Open House (See notes) - sv
+ 6:00pm: Quiet Evening At Home HH and Dinner (See notes) - sv
+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour (Trevi) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Dinner (Trevi) - ms
+ 8:00pm: Pajama Party (See notes) - sv
+ 9:30pm: Limousine Tour (TBA) - ms

We could use any kind of general-interest daytime activity
in the afternoon, plus a third-track option in the evening
against the Trevi-Limo track and QEAH-Pajama track.
. . . . .

Thursday does need some volunteers ...

+Thursday, April 22:
+ 2:00am: Charles Bar (Bellagio) - ms
+ 11:00am: Glamour Boutique Open House (Glamour Boutique) - sv
+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (TBA) - ms
+ 5:00pm: Night Of The Soiled Doves (CR) - mv
+ 6:00pm: Local Happy Hour (TBA) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Local Dinner (TBA) - ms
+ 11:00pm: Dancing at Paris (Paris) - ms

The "Local Happy Hour" and "Local Dinner" are place-holders
for second-track local options against NSD. This timeslot is
open for just about any kind of thing or things, small or
large.

Something like the Fremont Street Experience would work for
Thursday evening.

Volunteers?
. . . . .

+Friday, April 23:

I really think Friday is looking good, assuming the plans for
the Pity-Formal fall in place.

+ 9:00am: Pistol/rifle shooting (TBA) - ms
+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Kimberly (TBA) - ms
+ 2:00pm: Walk off your lunch (TBA) - ms
+ 3:00pm: High Tea (TBA) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Spring Formal/Pity Party (Italian-American Club) - mv
+ 11:00pm: Dancing at Paris (Paris) - ms

There's space for possible daytime activities, but I don't
think this is a glaring gap by any means.

Comments on any of this?

More importantly, volunteers? :)

I think this one is all set. Nora will try to have a stash
of the 2-fers, and we'll announce this as the time gets
closer.

Thanks, Rosada. I'll be sure the "Se Hablo Espanol" item is
in rotation for the next general mailing, which will go out
this coming weekend.

>My two cents.....Rosada

Thanks, Rosada. I wish you would have made your feelings
known sooner. Should things fall to work out for any reason,
we can go back and try another approach for the Pity Party.
