Final HRC Welcome discussion:
We've had quite a bit of good discussion, we resolved most
of the concerns and issues, and I think it's in agreement
that the HRC is close to the ideal venue for our DLV 2010
Welcome Celebration.
We're still somewhat hung up on the money, and even though
a "Sugar Mommy" has stepped forward (with backing of others),
I really don't think we have a consensus on this one issue.
This is why we vote.
Those of voting status can expect a special "ballot" mailing
shortly. If you don't receive this by the end of the day
today, write in and say so.
Thanks again to Suzane for the very generous offer, thanks
also to those who stepped forward to underwrite, and thanks
to all for input and discussion on this issue.
Remaining HRC proposal discussion appears below. No new
significant talking points have been introduced in the
last list cycle. Let's hold further discussion on the
Welcome Celebration until we get the outcome of the
vote, please.

Yes, agree!
I know there are some straightforward and some very out of
the box ways of recovering all or most of the front fee.
One idea I had, mainly in conjunction with the Formal, but
it could be used here in this context, is something like a
drawing for an "Amy Did Me" makeover at $5 a chance. I can
easily see that raising a few hundred $$$$, for example!
I know there are others (ways to generate $$$ that is). :)

DLV kick off event:

Thanks, Vivian. This makes four on record for this.

I don't have a problem, myself, with paying a cover charge.
I do, however, have over 30 years of experience knowing the
TG community and how, individually and collectively, the
members of that community behave.
It's for that reason that I think the HRC proposal is one
far above all others, but if and only if entry (if only for
the purpose of socializing) is free.
If we can't do that (no cover), then I don't think the HRC
is our best option.
>This place is very upscale and well worth the cover charge,
>so everybody start saving a few dollars every payday til DLV.
>lets not be tight wads and enjoy an event you will not forget.
I agree! I don't think there's anyone being a tightwad here. I
just think there is some sincere concern about the $$$. I do
think that overall, this will be worth it, and yes, I do want
to see it happen. I'm willing to do my part to both assist and
a$$i$t on this!
>If peaple need rides to the HRC then we need to car pool to
>get as many peaple there as possible. I hope we can make this

This is one of several ideas we can use to assure an absolute
maximum turnout. Shared rides, changing facilities for those
who need it, Open House and/or Hotel Reception to ease the
shock of entry for the newbees, etc.

This is a very good point, that the HRC will give the new
attendees a very good first impression of DLV.

There has been quite a bit of variance in attendance at
our major gatherings. In some years we never really had
a maximum-attendance ending activity, and in a few years
our planned-maximum-attendance Welcome Celebration (2005
for example) was derailed, attendance wise, by any of
several factors.
Yes, some do leave prior to the closing night, and room
rates is frequently cited as the reason for this. For
2010, hopefully this will be mitigated somewhat by the
final evening being on a Friday.
But yes, the Welcome Celebration, in recent years, has
been usually our best-attended activity, and I think the
Hard Rock proposal is a sure-fire thing to make a good
thing even better! :)
>It won't be easy for a new person but in the interest of

Thanks, Kate.
You might want to consider something like helping out Sarona
at the Beginner Open House and being a volunteer driver for
the Monday evening Welcome Celebration, should we vote to
accept this proposal.
