Continuing HRC discussion:
Wow, that was fast!
Multiple seconds to the HRC motion came in quite quickly,
which indicates to me that there is at least a certain
degree of support for Suzane's proposal.
Below, Suzane sends in a "straight from the source" note
directly addressing a few of the concerns which have been
brought up, in particularly the loudness issue.
As is our custom, we'll keep the floor open for discussion
and debate on the motion until things go silent for 48
hours. Then we'll call for votes. At that time, those of
voting status will receive a special ballot mailing.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Some additional details:
Suzane writes (first-person, no quoting):
Dear Ladies,
Please be aware that if we use the third floor it is OUR ROOM.
Issue 1. On the third floor WE SET the Music and ALL Associated
"Volume" Levels. If the group wants NO Back ground music at
all that can be accomplished so it will be a NON Issue on the
third floor. The second and first floor would have to be
"Discussed" and then we would have only limited control
over the volume.
Issue 2. On the third floor is will be a PRIVATE EVENT and
there will be no "public" gawkers. The "Closeted and New
girls can come up the elevator which is NOT in the middle
of the floor it is just inside the main entrance. They can
also step out on the patio and look around and be outside
for photographs with the strip as a back ground with OUT
being "Gawked" at.
Issue 3. Parking There is private parking in the garage
just behind the Hard Rock. The garage entrance is less
than a block north of the hard rock. When we were in town
the Parking charge was $ 3.00 per VISIT good for the night.
I hope that this information is of value to you in your
upcoming vote.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Suzane.
You've answered the music loudness question to my
satisfaction. From this time forward, the loudness question
is a non-issue AFAIC.
I really don't think we have any need to control the
loudness on the first two floors, just where we will be
having our opening mixer.
I do think that as sign-up time approaches, we need to
communicate the fact that the loudness in the area we
will use for our opening activities will be under our
control and will be appropriate for socializing.
Comfort:
As for the comfort of all DLV attendees the shy newbees
should not be uneasy in the third floor, particularly if
we offer an escort to those who need it. I'm sure that a
DLV greeter at the main entrance can also help in this
respect as well.
I think any "not mainstream enough" concerns are mitigated
by the fact that HRC is, in and of itself, a very classy
and trendy facility, right in the heart of one of the most
active parts of the Strip, with the "hardcore mainstream"
just a flight of stairs away. Any mainstreamers who feel
in any way claustrophobic can step downstairs for some
fresh air. :)
Parking:
I'm assuming the "$3.00" parking you mention above is in
the big Showcase structure by the theater and food court?
Is this correct? Does HRC offer valet parking? NBD, but I
do think we should give a summary of all convenient parking
options on the final schedule.

Hard Rock proposal:
Mardi writes:
>Do you people remember the money problems we had at the Blue
>ox and do you think that theY will be deferent in 2010???
Yes, I remember the $$$ issues at Blue Ox quite well, too
well, in fact! :(
We were able to come up with a very satisfactory solution
and we had a very well-attended and highly-rated activity.
Yes, I think it will be different in 2010. Suzane has a
good solid plan which does cover the fiscal bases.
>Remember the bitchen over the cover charge and the price of
>the food. I think we need to find something more affordable.
There should be no need for anyone to b*tch about anything at
the Welcome Celebration. There will be no cost to attend just
to mingle and socialize. Drinks, of course, will be at the
going rate, and food will be at menu prices. Hard Rock is not
the cheapest, but it's not out of line by any means.

Hard Rock proposal:

>as for suanes thought of the new hard rock we have the
>option of the third floor an over 100 can be there.
>it has a stage /bar/privite an they well be very happy to
>help the dlv. i have been there an with sueanne.
Thanks, Kathy. Should the motion carry we'll put you down
as an assistant to Suzane.

Hard Rock proposal:
Tracy writes:
>I think it's a super idea and I vote to (Lets do this!) and
>second the motion if that is a better wording if you like.
Thanks, Tracy. Yours was the "second second" to be received.
>A fresh place for this years event is great. and I thank
>Susan and all at DLV for doing such a great job. I can't
>wait to see what's next.
This is one very important point, and that is that this
will be a totally "fresh" activity in a venue that we've
never used before. There can be absolutely no "same-old
same-old" complaints about this one! :)
>Oh and I must say it's funny that some people can be so
>stroppy about the littlest things like sound levels of
>music,
We have a very diverse group at DLV. To some like you,
the music level may not be important, but to others,
several others as indicated by the number of comments
on this issue, it is, indeed, a big deal.
For the main part of the evening, from the opening Happy
Hour, through dinner, and into the after-dinner social
time, our attendees have a need to converse. QED. This
is what the concern was about.
>Maybe we should turn our thoughts to the fact that you
>can please some of the people some of the time and you
>can't please some people ever. LOL
We will never please all of our attendees all of the time,
but I think this proposal can come very close to pleasing
almost all of our people for one evening.
>All the best and peace love and Rock"N" Roll darlings
Thanks, Tracy. :)

HRC motion:
Kat writes:
>I second the motion.
Thanks, Kat. Yours was the third second received on this
motion. :)
>HRC seems fine and if the music is too loud then we will
>deal with it then.
We want to make the loudness of the music a non-issue. If
you or anyone finds it to be too loud for conversation,
please bring it to the attention of Suzane or the other
activity volunteers.

HRC thoughts:
JoAnn writes (first-person, no quoting):
JoAnn Seqrue here--Trying to get my arms around it.
Think the venue will be great, especially with the music
control! Having a meeting [staging place] with DIVA
"sisters" escorting the newbies (maybe w/ two run times)
would be great. Thanks Suzanne for the underwriting.
*Now the "devil in the details" suggestions ---*
Maybe with a dinner optional we also might have a dessert
only option?
_To deal with the room cover charge: _
We might have a two drink ticket (required of all who
attend) that would include a "embedded share" of the
cover charge.
We could have a limited three option menu set price
that also helps cover some of the room charge.
Likewise for a dessert menu of selected items?
Suggest that all the amounts for (i) two drink ticket;
(ii) dinner option; and (iii) dessert option have the
prorated cost of the embedded room cover charge be
based on an attendance of 100 collectively.
. . . . .
Thanks, JoAnn.
I agree that the venue will be very good, particularly
since the major stated concern, music loudness, will be
under our control.
Something like a two-drink ticket, with some of the $$$$
going toward reimbursing Suzane for the room front money,
might work much better than a simple appeal for donations.
The attendees would see something of tangible value in
addition to the warm fuzzy feeling of helping sponsor
such a worthwhile event. :)
However, with the current open and seconded motion, it
cannot be "required", it must be optional, as the motion
explicitly states that there will be no barrier to entry.
I think it needs to stay this way in order to get maximum
turnout, maximum participation, and maximum enjoyment.
If we can combine a Beginner Open House with a staging
for this activity, I think we can capture a few who would
otherwise get cold feet and bail out. The idea of two
"runs" could catch those who are running late or need
some extra time or help getting ready.
I think we should also get the Hotel Hostesses to encourage
those at their respective hotels to attend.
