Org List:

This is the DLV 2010 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Moving forward:

The items regarding the Welcome Celebration and the Hard
Rock proposal will be sent out in a subsequent special
mailing. (Please keep those cards and letters coming
in, gang!) :)

In other news ...

Things are moving along nicely. We do have some decisions to
make regarding the scope of the formal affair, since other
things (closing night, Pity Party) are dependent on our
decisions.

Thanks to all for comments and suggestions. :)
. . .

Closing and Formal:

We have some proposals here for our formal affair which
are starting to show some thought and detail, but they
are becoming quite divergent. We do need to decide which
way to go with this.

Your comments and feedback are needed! Yes!

Specifically, if you PARTICULARLY LIKE any proposal, please
write in and say so.

More importantly, if you PARTICULARLY DISLIKE any proposal,
don't just think to yourself "oh poo-poo, I'll just sit this
one out - blaaaah", write in and let us know that you don't
like it! We want to be sure that any activities we plan are
of interest!
. . .

Hotels:

As of this mailing, we've had NO hotel nominations so far!

Don't be afraid to nominate!

No, if you send in a hotel nomination, I won't immediately
jump on you to volunteer as the Hotel Hostess. (That's
Holly's job, not mine.) :)

Nominations?

Prom thoughts:

>Dinner does not have to be part of the prom; think about

The idea of dinner seems to be tossed about in regards to
the ideas of making the Prom/Formal a single-track thing
on the last evening.

If it's a smaller multi-track activity, dinner does not
need to be part of it. Of course there could be a dinner
and then the Prom in the same venue, sequentially, or
even concurrently, as with one idea below.

>What is the possibility that some Las Vegas gay bar might
>be persuaded to have a prom theme one evening?

>Our people plus the local people would provide a good crowd
>for something like that. That would remove us from much
>responsibility for organizing it and remove the money

>had a reasonable dress code.

The venue that comes to mind immediately is the Escape
Lounge on west Sahara. They might be persuaded, particularly
if it means a huge boost in bar patronage on an otherwise
slow weekday evening.

I can see something like that working as a second-track
option against something like the Limo Tour or NSD.

If we could have an optional catered buffet similar to the
one we had at Blue Ox brought in, it might work as a closing
evening max-attendance function as well, but I doubt if they
would want to do that on a Friday.

>The prom I told about was always fun and I miss it, April
>is the prom season and I think something like that might
>be of interest to someone seeking a way to make a buck!

>Something to think about!

Yes, and all it takes for something like this to happen
is for someone to do the legwork and work out the details
with the facility.

As an aside ...

One "prom" type activity which is an annual event in Omaha
is the Groundhog Prom which occurs around Ground Hog Day
in February. It started originally as a spoof on the big
AkSarBen Coronation Ball, a (formerly) big hoity-toity
high-society too-doo here. It's snowballed and has become
quite an affair.

The web site is out of date and not very well laid out, but
if you want to see what it's about, there it is. :)

Formal thoughts:

JoAnn writes (first-person, no quoting):

Some comments and suggestions for discussion for the
possible Formal Affair on the last night---

*JoAnn's Preamble*

Most of us like the opportunity to dress up and the only
night so far has been the Limo Tour. Another option might
be the "closing night". This event should have a "fun
theme" that ends around 10pm so it leaves time to go to
other venues to enjoy the balance of the evening.

*1st -- the possible Event's activities--*

Social Hour 6pm to 7pm [No Host]

Entertainment 7pm to 8:30pm.

This would be a show with a cover charge that includes
two(2) drinks. Say $20.00

Potpourri & Dinner 8:30pm to 10:00pm

There would have an optional buffet. See prices below.

*2nd --the Potpourri Events*-- during this time of 90
minutes you have dinner for those who want it--and the
following program concurrently--

This is the "fun program"--

-Individual Photo Shoot-- $15 for 10 poses on a CD to be
sent to you

-Chinese Auction-- have 15 items. You buy tickets and
"stuff" the bid box. Do the drawing

-Bidding Auction-- limit to 5 prizes for a floor bid

-Group Photo

*3rd--the Events "housekeeping details"* [Thinking outside
the box, but not off the page!"]

-The location for the evening might be at a social hall.
This might seem out there-- but what about the Church Hall
were Diva attended services the previous Sunday?

-The buffet meal might be catered in. Those who sign-up
prior to Diva week pay $10.00; those who sign up Diva
Week pay $18.00 [includes dessert]

-Have a dessert and coffee/tea table for $8.00/ person for
those who do not want dinner.

Just some thoughts. .... JoAnn Segrue
. . . . .

Thanks, JoAnn.

That's quite an affair you have planned there! :)

The only thing I read that might not be workable is that
most Metropolitan Community Churches have a no alcohol
policy for social activities. That would put a major damper
on things! I'm not even sure if the MCC in Las Vegas has a
Fellowship Hall or not.

I like the option of prepaying at a significant discount,
with the option of paying in person, although at a higher
price, during DLV week.

Comments, gang?

Do we want to move forward with something like this?

Any comments about the details of JoAnn's proposal?

This is the kind of feedback we need.

Comments, gang?
. . . . .

>Please keep the Limo Tour... great event, lots of fun,

Don't worry, the Limo Tour is not going away, nor will
it be "outsourced". I'm sure that if we mothballed the
Limo Tour for even one year, there would be quite a bit
of b*tching about it, or rather about the lack of it! :)

Thanks, Vanessa.

By precedent, Gina has first refusal rights to take the
lead for the shooting activity this coming year.

With Gina's permission, I'll put the shooting activity on
the calendar for Friday to hold the spot, with Gina as
the lead and you as the co-coordinator. If Gina wants to
relinquish the lead on this, then we'll move you to that
position.

Gina and Vanessa, If you want this moved to Thursday (or
any other timeslot) let me know.

More Prom thoughts:

Kumiko writes (first-person, no quoting):

Hi,

I was reading the org on this prom/dinner ideas.

A idea came to mind.

There appears to be those that would love the opportunity to
do a glitzy/gown thingee like a prom/dinner.

Why not go all the way, and combine a few activities for a
possibly fun night to take full advantage of this glitzy
dress-up night.

Here is the idea....

Call it....hmmm... "Putting On the Glitz" night.

How about a HH at a bar at or near the 'Prom' Dinner
location, at around 5-7 allowing one to get pretty and
get dressed (make overs too) in those sequined or
silk or satin gowns, high heels, sparkles/glitter, very
serious evening make-up and get to the location
in a reasonable time during that HH.

Immediately following the HH and showing off how one
looks, and checking out who is wearing what and
socializing, begin the Prom dinner as planned from 7-9pm.
Will there be assigned tables?

Immediately following dinner, one walks confidently
(or even dramatically) out of the restaurant/casino
straight into a waiting Limo, which is the start of the Limo
Tour from 9-11pm. Assignments to which limo has
to be done already.

Think of doing a grand walk to the limo, assisted in by
the driver, then being wisked away in a waiting Limo for a
ride around LV, champagne - or whatever desert beverage
to top off the dinner in the limo, and the traditional stops
for group photos.

The difference is this time, one's in a formal gown, and
having photos in a gown at one or more well known
LV backgrounds, like the Mirage, or Bellagio...etc.

Can you imagine a group shot showing all the gowns?

Or maybe even individual 'Prom' pics by a photographer --
so do we corsages too at the dinner?

Also, one can flaunt being in a gown and make a
grand exit to and from a limo (with or without a feather
boa? - showing some legs and those heels!).
Exp have the driver 'assist you' in and out... but be
sure to tip him for this service!

Just remember you are a lady and enter and exit the limo
like one ... hmmm dramatic exits as a photo op? Just
don't go in and out like a guy with your butt hangin' in
the door as one crawls into their seat, ok?

The Limo Tour ends at 11pm, the same HH/Dinner Location
for a possible night cap at the same Bar or cafe, so
the cars will be right there.

One can then move on to whatever happens after 11pm?

One idea is using the HH and dinner at BB, grand entrance
into a limo at the drive through entrance of BB, and returning
there after the limo tour, with possible night cap at Hard Rock
Cafe which is quite close by...or then move to a 'Blues' bar
or dancing...what evers...

It will be a variation of the same yearly activities ...

The bad? Timing, coordinating, and of course, the cost.

. jus some thoughts...
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Kumiko.

This idea is intriguing, I admit.

This would, in essence, combine the Prom activity with the
Limo Tour for a full "formal" evening.

There is one particular context in which I think this idea
would work. Of course we need feedback on this idea too.

It could work at the Bahama Breeze, but I might suggest
something a bit more upscale, such as Trevi.

We have tentatively (very) planned on a re-run of the Trevi
dinner prior to the Limo Tour. Nothing is in stone, and
Michelle has not as of this time confirmed her intent to
hostess the Trevi dinner this coming year.

Michelle?

I'm assuming that if we do Trevi, we can have the upstairs
area again, and I see no reason why we could not have a
prom-theme happy hour and dinner. Quality Social Time, with
a dress-up theme. I'm sure there would be room for Britney
and Kimberly to do their photo backdrop thing, and of
course there's the opportunity for a dressed-up group shot
in front of the fountain.

OTOH, I do think it would be workable at BB as well.

As for timing ...

Starting things at 5:00pm is probably too early. If you
remember, we pushed the HH and dinner on Wednesday 1/2
hour earlier than usual, and we had quite a few who
were very fashionably late. If the HH is part of the
"prom" theme, we want it at a time which will allow
time to get ready and get there.

We can tweak the exact timing should we decide to go
forward with this idea.

I also think it will be best to eliminate the "move"
between the HH and dinner portions. Moves take time
and generate complaints and fall-outs when they happen.
IOW, except for the limo tour stops, we should have all
of the "prom" things in the same venue.

Formal affair and Open House:

Done. Thanks. I'll use the times that we've used in the past.

Thanks, Nora.

What this appears to propose is something of a combined
Pity Party and Prom/Formal for the final evening. Is this
what you and Amy have in mind?

We need comments on this one, gang! Sooner the better.

As of this day, hour, minute, and second, I don't think
we're anywhere close to a consensus on what we want to do
WRT the Prom/Formal or the closing evening. (Just look at
all of the various items above.) :)

To all, feedback on all of these ideas and proposals is
needed.

Quiet evening and opener:

Sarona writes:

>Agreed - Wednesday evening will be the best for "Quiet
>Evening at Home" as it is completely different than the

>me on the schedule for Wednesday.

Thanks, Sarona.

I'm going to break it up into a QEAH Dinner and subsequent
Pajama Party in order to make it sync as a second option
against the tentative dinner and Limo Tour on Wednesday.

I also might suggest that you reconsider prepayment. I think
it will help your turnout quite a bit if it can be in any
way avoided. Those who are shy of the public tend to be the
ones who are also shy of making contact and making such a
prepayment.

If you're concerned about fall-out, we should have enough
history with this type of activity to give you a fairly
close predicted turnout number.

>I'll mention the available changing room on the discussion list.
>(Mon, Tue, and Wed afternoons before other events of the evening)

Thanks. We do occasionally get queries about this, mostly
from locals who want to maintain a low profile, but every
so often from someone who is a bit shy of walking through
a hotel lobby and might need a less public place to change
on the first nights out.

We can mention in one of the mailings, as we approach DLV
time, that such a facility will be available on request.
. . . . .

>>Coffee, as in no C2H5OH? Uh, if that's correct, I don't
>>think that would ever work for an opening mixer. :)

>Yes, ReJavanate is a coffee place, no alcohol. Sounds like
>it does not meet the criteria for an opening mixer.

Unfortunately I think that most any evening DLV social
activity needs to have the availability of adult beverages
to assure an optimal turnout.

Thanks for the suggestion, though. :)
