I had a feeling this one would pass, but not by such a
margin as it did. It appears like the gang is clearly in
favor of at least trying this.
This is about the closest to a "landslide" that I can
remember in the history of DLV! Quite a few abstentions,
though. (???????)
Holly, it looks like your measure was well-received!
Congratulations. I would like to encourage all volunteers
to do what they can to make this program work as it's
intended to do. :)

Hotels:
Now that the Hotel Hostess motion is behind us, there is
one hanging hotel item that we need to circle back to.
Kimberly Kael writes (from a previous mailing):
>I do think we might want to consider an alternative
>approach: rather than designating ONE primary hotel,
>narrow the recommendations to three - one budget, one
>mid-market, and one upscale. None designated as "more
>primary" than the others but all having the desired
>characteristics of facilitating ride-sharing, informal
>gatherings in easy walking distance of rooms, etc.
This would slightly modify our hotel strategy to limit
our suggested hotels to one of each of three scales
and price ranges.
Kimberly, the floor is now clear, so if you want to present
this as a motion, now is the time to do so.
. . . . .
On the topic of hotels ...
We have by tradition started nominating and discussing our
suggested hotels in November, which is about 1 1/2 months
from today. I think that timeframe is appropriate for this
task, and I don't want to move it up for the sake of moving
it up. :)
However, I would ask all to start thinking forward WRT our
suggested hotels for this coming year, both in terms of
overall hotel strategy and particular properties.
This year I would like to see a few things happen in
regards to our suggested hotels.
1. I think all nominated hotels should have at least a
cursory "vetting" process to be sure that they will indeed
be open in a normal capacity during DLV and that there are
no significant "red flags" appearing.
2. I want to see us do one and only one round of hotel
selection for this year, meaning all suggested hotels are
voted upon in November and announced in December. None of
this "we have just added another suggested hotel" in January
or February, as has happened a few times in the past.

Moving along:
We haven't done much actual planning of the event over the
last month or so, but we have moved forward and made
several decisions which will affect the event.
We've selected and affirmed a set of dates which had no
significant opposition of any type. We've filled the seat
on the Admin Committee. As for hotel strategy, we affirmed
that we do not want a "primary hotel", either exclusive or
non-exclusive.
Our ride share program has been eliminated. I'm not sure
if this is a Good Thing<tm> or not, but it was something
that sure generated a lot of complaints! :(
One strategic item that we discussed in some depth is that
of encouraging makeover sessions, with Ginger being the one
who will coordinate efforts with a mainstream business in
the Fashion Show Mall and Kat coordinating efforts with one
or more costume shops.
Of course the item that we just decided which I think has
the greatest potential impact is that of the Hotel Host
and Hostess Program. We have yet to see its effects, but
I am hoping that all will support this program and let it
serve those it is intended to serve.
. . . . .
In moving forward here, we need to firm up an overall strategy
for planning the DLV week. When we last covered this topic we
introduced a conceptual week with the evenings planned along
the line of:
Sunday: "Slow-start" smaller activities.
Monday: Large max-attendance opening mixer.
Tuesday: Shows / multi-track.
Wednesday: Limo / second track.
Thursday: NSD / second track.
Friday: Large max-attendance final evening.
Expanding on this concept, I can envision the following:
Sunday: "Slow-start" smaller activities.
One strategy which was brought up would have us doing a
multiple-track HH and dinner and early evening activities
followed by some kind of a larger single-track gathering.
. . .
Monday: Large max-attendance opening mixer.
I still like the idea of a large Happy Hour/Dinner/Mixer
type of thing, similar to what we did at the Blue Ox in
2009 and 2008.
My personal opinion is that it will be very difficult to
find a venue which will be better for this than the Blue
Ox!
I think there's also room for one or more post-welcome
activities. This might be the day to introduce dancing
at Paris, maybe? (Kimberly?) Some Karaoke type of thing?
Things like this could keep the group together longer.
Doing this would give the newbees three convenient "points
of entry", those being the Pre-DLV thing on Saturday, the
final Sunday activity, and the big official Welcome Meet
And Greet on Monday.
. . .
Tuesday: Shows / multi-track.
This would be our traditional "Eating Out Night" followed
by multiple options such as a show, bar crawl, dancing,
karaoke, things like that.
If there is to be a Big Show<tm>, this would be the night
for it. The Pity Party might also be a good fit here. If
there is to be an interactive thing such as the Murder
Mystery last year, this would be a good evening for it.
. . .
Wednesday: Limo / second track.
I can envision this to be somewhat similar to Wednesday of
2009, with a feature dinner at something like Trevi with
a possible second-track dining option. Then the Limo Tour
with a second-track option. Pity Party has been tracked
against the Limo Tour in the past. Other options, even
those new and different, are ripe for a second-track against
the Limo Tour as well.
. . .
Thursday: NSD / second track.
Again, this would be similar to Thursday of 2009. NSD would
be the feature activity and there would be an in-town
second-track option. Something like the Irish Pub might fit
well here. Or, something new and different! Pity Party would
also fit here as a second track to NSD.
. . .
Friday: Large max-attendance final evening.
No matter what we do here, this has to be strong! Both in
terms of perception of what it is to be and what it is in
real life!
I would like to hear comments about the Bahama Breeze, since
it's bound to come up for discussion for such an evening.
Comments on any of these topics, gang?
