Updates:
First, some very good news. Funding has been pledged for a
hardcopy printed schedule and map. This is private funding,
so we won't have to include ads! Those pledging the $$$ are
free to identify themselves if they wish. :)
Kimberly Kael has volunteered to "pretty print" our 2009
schedule, and we'll be incorporating this into the handout.
. . . . .
One principle I would like to see us embrace for DLV 2009 is
where we strive to have at least one reasonably-priced option
for each prime evening timeslot. We've done this most of the
time in the past, but this coming year it's more important
with the state of the economy.
We do need to keep DLV affordable!
Despite the economy, indicators such as queries, list joins,
and web site hits show that interest in DLV is slightly higher
than it was last year at this time.

Luxor movie theater or other:

If I understand what's going on with the new ST feature, it's
being released both in IMAX and regular 35mm simultaneously, so
you should have plenty of options as far as theaters go.
Yes, Palms gets scads of twentyboppers, but Luxor gets a good
amount of teens, pre-teens, and families.
I would answer these concerns by restating some of the best
practices which we've discovered over the years, such as to
dress to blend in, keep voices down, and unless there is some
kind of irrefutable reason to do so, don't assemble in groups
in the lobby, by the refreshment stand, etc.
>I can try and contact some of the teaters in Vegas in the beging
>of the new year to get some more info.
To make this a success, the one thing that needs to happen is
that details (theater, time, etc.) are known in advance and
are published in the final schedule and in the Large Final
Mailing.
Previous attempts at doing a movie have not worked mainly
because they were too iffy.
If the feature opens May 8, schedules should be known at least
a week prior, and well in time to get this in the LFM, which
will go out around May 6-7.
One thing I was thinking of which might help your turnout is
to include a casual Eating Out Night at the same venue (or
nearby) as the theater. This eliminates the discontinuity
of the dreaded "move" from one venue to another.
Let me know if you want to put something like this on the
schedule.

Testing re-registration:
This year we'll be doing a more complete test and shakedown of
the registration system. Those of you on the ORG list (as in
all who are reading this via e-mail) who have attended recently
and have the same e-mail address should receive your advance
re-registration e-mail shortly.
Please help shake down the system by being on the lookout for
things such as misspellings and typos, grammatical errors,
error messages, unexpected results, etc.
All of the registrations will be considered "for real" unless
you say otherwise. If you want to make a test and do not plan
to attend, it's very easy to cancel.
Thanks in advance for helping with the testing.

Studio Lites Open House:
Mardi writes:
>I talked to Chris and Rick of Studio Lites, and they said would
>be glad to do a open house on May 11, at 11:00am.
Thanks, Mardi.
I've got you down for 11:00am on Monday the 11th.
One concern, and this is really up to you and the Studio Lites
folks, is that you might consider moving this to day other
than Monday. Why? Because Sunday is Mothers Day and we are
expecting a lower than average early crowd, with many traveling
and arriving on Monday, in time for the evening things but not
in time for anything during the day.
Your call on this, please let us know.
