Rosada, this is Aiko. Just so you know, I've taken the responsibility
to coordinate the activities for DLV.

Thank you for raising a very good point that some who wish to become
volunteers, may not know how to start.

You're correct that instructions are not on the DLV website about "How
to volunteer", and I'm sure that's a question with several others.

As everyone is aware, DLV is completely run by volunteer help. We have
many volunteers local to Las Vegas, but the majority of activities are
actually coordinated by those who are outside of the Las Vegas area.

An good example of how an activity starts would be the Limo Tour. In
2001, Tina, who is not local to Las Vegas, thought it would be fun to
cruise The Strip in a limo after a production show. So, she announced
the first Limo Tour as an activity, and it was placed on the schedule.
This required a sign-up with a limit of eight people.

The first Limo Tour was so fun that I volunteered to be the coordinator
of that activity for the following year, 2002. The activity was
coordinated with a few phone calls made to the limo company for a
location and pick-up time. Sign-up was required prior to DLV, and
payment was made during DLV. All of the sign-up and payment details
were announced in the DLV mailings.

Since then, several others have coordinated the Limo Tour, with
continued success.

So, the answer to your question about getting started as a volunteer
coordinator, is to reply to the mailing and state whether you want to
help coordinate an existing activity, or coordinate a new idea.

A few new activity ideas for DLV 2008 are roller coaster rides, karaoke
at Mandalay Bay, Neon Boneyard Tour, a visit to The Skywalk, and/or
...whatever you come up with. :)

Again, if you want to help with an existing activity, simply reply with
a note that you'd like to assist with a specific activity. Or, if you
have a new idea, please present your idea to the Org group, and we can
help you plan and make your idea into a very fun activity.

Thanks for volunteering to help. When the current and proposed activity
coordinators need assistance, you will be called into action. That is,
unless you have an idea for an activity you'd like to coordinate? Any
and all ideas for new, and perhaps even adventurous activities will be
considered.:)

My only concern is that this cruise is two months prior to DLV, and may
force some of our attendees, especially those on a tight budget, to
chose between this and DLV.
