Begin Planning For DLV 2008:
We have not had an Org mailing for the past two weeks, since you have
probably been as busy with summer things as I have. However, since it
is now the "dog days of summer", it's time for us to get into the
"ideas" phase of the DLV planning calendar. By October, we will need to
be in the "doing" phase.
These are a few issues that need to be addressed:
1. Facilities / venues for our larger gatherings.
At this time, it appears Bahama Breeze is our only solid - with no
complaint venue that can handle one of our larger gatherings. Reports
are that Elvis is moving, and may or may not be available. Suede had
some issues last year, and needs to re-establish their reputation with
some of the attendees. Suede may not attract a maximum crowd this
coming year. Other venues are Carluccio's, Hard Rock, and Blue Ox. No
serious problems, but each has it's own issues.
Two facilities that can hold our larger gatherings will be needed for
the Welcome Mixer and the final Saturday. For the Welcome Mixer on
Monday, a combination of Carluccio's and Goodtimes might be feasible.
Another candidate for Monday might be a combination of Hard Rock and
Freezone. In both cases, dinner would be optional with the gathering as
the main feature.
For the Saturday finale, Bahama Breeze could be considered a major
candidate for dinner, with an activity following.
Any other facilities that can handle our larger gatherings?
2. We had a strong ending to DLV 2007, and need to come up with ideas
and places for an equally strong ending for this coming year. Having
the same theme will be redundant, and probably fizzle.
Fresh ideas - no matter how "off the wall" they may seem at the time.
3. Volunteers needed.
If each coordinator of an activity had an assistant, that would double
our volunteer base.
We need to get some new / additional coordinators into the group. For
those who have not coordinated an activity, please present your ideas
for fun activities. If it's a good idea and you are hesitant to
coordinate it on your own, perhaps we can find someone to assist you or
become the primary coordinator.
Those are some of the issues we need to discuss during this phase of
planning DLV 2008.
