Very good, thanks again, gang:

As most of you know, things went exceptionally well last week!

I would again like to thank everybody for doing what they did to make
this the largest and most successful DLV to date. Our final headcount
was 116 who made contact.

Our one major goal of having no significant incidents was met! Very good
show.

Our no-show rate was lower than it has been in the last few years and
I've heard far fewer complaints this year as well. In other words, the
adjustments we made worked.

I heard many comments about how well things went this year.
. . . . .

The DLV 2004 followup survey is ready to be tested. It's on line at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2004/dlv2004survey.html

Please check this over for such things as typos, grammatical errors,
etc.

Also, if there are any questions that you think we should be asking
but aren't, now is the time to get them added.

Please don't take this "for real" just yet, but you can make a test
submission. I'll clear the results shortly before the survey
announcement gets sent out.
. . . . .

More photos have come in to the staging area. The NSD photos will be
reviewed by the CR staff shortly and we will post what we can.
. . . . .

I'm expecting the first edition of the DLV 2004 E-mail Directory to go
out sometime next week.

Bowling non-payment:

I would like to hear some comments on one issue that has come up.

As some of you may know, Michelle (NV) took about a $40 bath on bowling.

We had stated prior to DLV that we would get assertive with those who
sign up for activities, blow them off, and cost our volunteers money.

I double-checked to be sure that the people were adequately told that
their payment would be expected. They were. Twice.

The activity sign-up screen had the following notice WRT bowling:

+Checking affirmative above will be considered a reservation and your
+attendance and payment will be expected. Please cancel by updating your
+activity selections if you no longer wish to participate.

The note on the final itinerary had the following as well:

+Bowling, Tuesday afternoon, May 4, 1:00pm, Sam's Town Lanes. This is a
+reservation, and your attendance and payment is expected. Please cancel
+by updating your activity selections if you no longer wish to
+participate.

When Michelle announced that she took the bath, I stated that we would
assertively follow up and attempt to collect. Some of you said words to
the effect of "it's about time", meaning to show the volunteers that we
would back them on this.

One comment came in off line stating that it would be better to forgive
and forget.

I don't know.

I would like to hear comments on if we should indeed attempt to collect,
particularly from Michelle and any others who may have taken a financial
hit from no-shows or no-pays.

Comments, gang?

Special thanks:

That was a very good week. Each and every one of you should be proud of
the results of your efforts.

It's very hard to single out any particular functions or activities that
are deserving of an extra degree of praise, but there are a few which
certainly deserve it, and I would like to commend those who are indeed
responsible for going a few extra miles.

I would also invite those of you who think of something as super
exceptional to do likewise.

And, if you or your activity are not mentioned, please don't think of
it as a snub, it's just that I think a few of our people and activities
really stood out exceptionally well this year.
. . .

First of all to Tootsye and Jena (and Yvonne): There were countless
comments and compliments on how smoothly the check-in process went.

Aiko and I were even standing by to assist if we needed to, but there
was never a backlog, and even with the new procedure it went amazingly
well.

In many cases the check-in people will be the first contact a newcomer
has with DLV. You are the first impression they have of DLV. It was
obvious to me, and to those who commented, that you certainly put DLV's
best foot forward at check-in time.

I also think you handled the one difficult check-in in an exceptional
manner. The process worked.
. . .

Deb: For the Hard Rock dinner, I know I told you how much I and the
group appreciated you picking up the ball and running with it. But not
only did you pick up the ball and run, you scored a touchdown and a
2-point conversion! I heard many compliments on how well organized this
was, and raves about the food. We need to keep HRC on the DLV lineup for
years to come!
. . .

Aiko: The Night Of The Soiled Doves side trip has to be the most unique
activity throughout the history of DLV! This is an excellent example of
out of the box thinking. What more can I say? This was the killer
activity of DLV 2004. (But we kinda expected that, didn't we?) :)

That one is gonna be a very hard act to follow!

Also for Aiko, I would like to commend the way you handled the
full-circle show changes. There was some confusion, but nobody griped,
at least none that I could hear did. :)
. . .

Tootsye and Jamie: I heard more comments about how well organized this
year's limo tour was! I agree with them! Limo tour is almost always one
of my personal faves, and this year it certainly had that special
something. Your advance planning and walk-through certainly paid off.
. . .

Mindy: Golf. I'm not a golfer, but I must admit this is one of the more
valuable and most consistent of our activities. From what I can tell,
this is the first regularly-scheduled TG golf tournament in recorded
history! I just posted some of the pics (the ones in so far are in the
staging directories 1 and 3) and I can tell everybody is having a lot of
fun! That's what it's all about.
. . .

Leah: Carluccio's was probably the most hassle-free meal we've had the
past two years. Excellent food, excellent facility, and excellent
service. It was a very enjoyable and relaxing experience. I also
appreciate the fact that they did not make us pre-pay or leave a
deposit. My only complaint about the place is that it's difficult to
take pictures without a reflection from the flash.
. . .

Mindy, Diane, and Nora: The Garden Party. This is one thing that the
mainline t* events will never have ... complete with kids, dogs, and
neighbors! :) Mindy and Diane, we really appreciate you opening up your
house to us the last 3 years. We hate to see you move. You've given our
people a real-world activity that they will treasure for years to come!
. . .

For those I didn't mention by name, your efforts are appreciated and
indeed part of what made DLV 2004 the success it was. There is nobody
this year who did anything other than a commendable job doing their
part for DLV. Thanks again! :)
