Thanks, gang:

This may or may not be the last DLVORG mailing prior to DLV 2003.

I would like to say thanks to everybody for the work on DLV 2003 over
the past year. You are a very special group (but you know that
already :) and it's been a pleasure working with all of you.

Believe it or not, it appears that just about everything is covered.

Major thing now is to get there and start enjoying the vacation! :)
. . . . .

Anything for the LFM, please get it in TODAY. I want to have this solid
tonight, and tomorrow do such things as sanity checking, spell checking,
testing the batch that sends it, etc.
. . . . .

Latest numbers:

111 registrations and headcount responses, plus 25 SO's (WOW) for a
total headcount of 136. Even with a 20% fallout rate that's over 100.
Again, we will never see all in any one place at any one time. Lately,
responses to headcounts have been brisk. Only one cancellation for
non-response since last report. Several new registrations over the
weekend. Their headcount mailings (plus several reminders) just went
out. I expect registrations to continue to trickle in all week.

Activity totals stand as follows. We can expect some fallout from each
of these, but I don't expect these numbers to change that much between
now and DLV. Taking a trip to the real world, I would expect the
actual show-up rate to the following to be somewhere between 75% and
85% of the numbers shown.

Total count for activity area51: 23
Total count for activity hmdinner: 64 (3 waiting)
Total count for activity hwwig: 36
Total count for activity hwcomp: 53 (11 waiting)
Total count for activity sasha: 84 (4 waiting)
Total count for activity air1: 12
Total count for activity gbpass: 60 (20 waiting)
Total count for activity jubilee: 55 (6 waiting)
Total count for activity limo: 64 (16 waiting)
Total count for activity air2: 12
Total count for activity golf: 21
Total count for activity carluccio: 72
Total count for activity so: 10
Total count for activity garden: 67 (17 waiting)
Total count for activity som: 66
Total count for activity tea: 23

We'll have a much better handle on the fallout rates for this when
people start checking in.

I've been in and out of Milano's in 20 minutes for lunch. Service is
usually fast.

Some of their stuff has a good dose of garlic and oregano (classic
red-sauce Sicilian) but they have burgers and such as well, as well
as Mexican (no spices, huh?) and Greek (uh ...) and some others as
well.

They have been known to serve Rubber Chicken. :)

>You make the call.

Let's keep Spotlight at 7:30. Some will be fashionably late anyway. :)

A request:

We have a number of people registered (and reconfirmed) who have never
attended DLV and have stated they have little or no public experience. I
would like to take special care this year to do what we can to be sure
these people have a most enjoyable first (or close to first) time out.

A number of these people face a double-whammy, socially speaking, when
they attend DLV. Not only will they face the uncertainties of that first
(or close to first) time out, they will be venturing into unknown
territory in that they may not be well-acquainted with anybody else
who is attending DLV.

I know the people in our group are very good about circulating and
including others, but we want to be sure nobody is left out this year
and I want to be sure we devote some extra attention when necessary
to be sure everybody has fun.

I'm asking your help, in particular, with the following items:

. Please be at activities early if possible, just to have friendly
faces present if nothing else. I've heard countless stories of those
who venture out of the closet for the first time, see their shadow, and
quickly dive back in. I'm sure this has happened before at DLV. I know
I've heard several stories of those who almost backed out on the way to,
or when entering DLV activities.

. On your way in to activities, please scan the parking lot looking for
anybody who might be with our group and "stuck" in their car. Please
feel free to approach them and ask if they are looking for the DLV
group. If you're uncomfortable doing this, just find me or one of the
others who is ok doing this. I'm aware of countless people who have been
stuck in the car outside local support group meetings, and it's been
reported at DLV activities as well.

. At our activities, please be on the lookout for anybody who is
standing or sitting alone, is very quiet, looks like she may be ready
to bolt for the door, or in any looks like she (he) may not be having a
good time. Please approach them and strike up some small talk if nothing
else. Ask them if there are any problems, and ask them if they would
like you to introduce them to some of the others.

. If you're one of those who are (kicking @$$ and) taking names, please
look out for those who are new (this will be a value of the "timesb4"
field of 0 on the registration sheets I hand out to you) and those who
have little or no public exposure (value of the "exper" field of 2 or
less). Please be sure to ask these people if they are feeling ok, and if
they would like to be introduced to the others. If you're too busy to do
some introducing, yell for me, or find any of several others who will
introduce them to the group.

. I know I said I would stand by to handle Big Sister emergency calls
of anybody stuck in a hotel room, but the more I think about it, the
more I think it's a good idea to have more than one go on things like
this. It's been years since this has happened (1998? 1999?) but I'm
sure it will happen again sometime. If we get these calls, I may ask
one or two of you to go along just in case.

Las Vegas Pride:

Received this from Sasha on Sunday. Since DLV will be over, and most of
us will not be in the area for this event this year, those who are local
can follow up on it if you want.
