Org List:

This is the DLV Organizational List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com) Replies to this
message will be forwarded to the DLV ORG list and not the main DLV list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Laundry list:

A few items here that need clarification and maybe discussion.

1. Swimming party. Mindy, is this a "go" or still a maybe? If so, what
date/time?

2. Slumber party. Is the "swap meet" thing (still) part of this? If
so, we want to announce it. Leeanna?

3. Golf. Mindy, is Las Vegas Golf definite as the location? I need to
put this on the map if it is.

4. English High Tea. Mindy, do you have a location for this? Again, I
need to put this on the map and write a quick directions note.

5. DLV activity headcounts. I'm writing the screen for the activity
headcount responses. I've included the following items as those which
we will need a semi-accurate headcount for. If I'm missing anything,
please let me know.

. Slumber party
. Wig instruction
. Air tours
. LaFemme
. Limo tour
. Friday dinner
. La Cage
. English High Tea

Any others? If anybody wants to take a look at the screen, which will be a
clickable link from individual e-mails, you can test with this one:

http://www.geekbabe.com/cgi-bin/dlv/dlvconf.cgi?12345-67890

This will appear to pull up my name, but you can feel free to play around
with it as it is a test. (Yes, I know Carluccio's is on the list, I'll
change that if necessary when the final venue is set.)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Headcounts:

>>I'm toying with the idea of stating that the headcount survey is not
>>optional, with a few increasingly assertive reminders to defecate or
>>abdicate for those who do not respond.

>In my humble opinion, those who don't respond should be cancelled
>anyway.

>>I think we can safely say that somebody who does not respond in any
>>way to three requests for a headcount will not show up.

>I wouldn't give them three chances. If their not going to respond
>I can't see them reserving hotel and air tickets either.

I want to give everybody a fair chance, and also realize that some of
our people will honestly space off the first note and reminders in the
weekly mailings. Here's what I'm planning ... About 3 weeks out, send
out the first headcount request with a "Response requested" note in the
subject. About a week after that, those who have not responded get a
"Reminder, response required" note. Maybe 5-7 days later for those who
still have not responded, "FINAL REQUEST, YOU MUST RESPOND, YOUR DLV
CANCELLATION IS PENDING".

I'm thinking also that for the mailing prior to this, the first and only
item will be a brief list of the hoops the people need to jump through
prior to DLV. We now have a good handle on how many people actually are
reading the mailings in depth. I'm sure most people at least skim them
for items they find of interest, but ...

Blonde and Luna:

>Hey! What's all this about us "old" broads avoiding platinum wigs?? I
>just got one! LOL. Oh well..........

Uh ... I didn't say that, did I?

>Yes, blonde is a very different look......I was totally surprised at
>the difference of how I looked in an auburn wig and then in a ash
>blonde wig....couldn't believe it was me! I have shown the pictures to
>friends and they agree. Hint......they make you look years younger
>too!

Well, that's what we're gonna find out. I'm willing to give it a shot,
and the more I think of it, a professional makeup job is in order, even
if it's for a Wednesday nite.

>(If you keep the following pics on the org list only you can post them
>for comparison if you want......would love to see EVERYONE blonde that
>night.....no biggie if you don't)

>Auburn:

>Ash blonde with highlights:

(Note that I have not been able to pull these up. Leah says they may
be down at times. Leah needs a geekbabe.com page. :)

>OK, we'll stick with Luna if that is what the feedback indicates.....at
>least we have options. Luna is a nice room also and I am sure the DQ's
>getting ready for the show will mingle a little too.

Question? Do you mean stick with Luna for Friday dinner, or stick with
Luna for a Saturday after-show meeting place or both?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
ID's:

>I am sure all the girls will carry ID but just as a disclaimer you may
>want to mention that in some places it may be mandatory for

>may be others......they are very strict about it too.

Goodtimes? Is this something new? I've been going there off and on for
over 5 years now and never been carded there. I know there was one place
that carded me, but I forget which it was. I'm sure it was not
Goodtimes.

LOL ... I don't think I could pass for under 21 if I >TRIED<!

But that is a good point, to remind people to carry legal ID.

Luna and Timing of Frank's Show:

Tina writes:

>OK, let me see if I understand this Luna question. We're actually
>looking at it for 2 separate situations:

>1). Friday for dinner before the Goodtimes Annual Mixer and

>2). for a Saturday night social place after Frank's LaCage show

That is the way I understand it as well. (see above)

>As I understand the description, Luna has only beer and wine, no mixed
>drinks, but does have a nice dinner menu with normal restaurant type
>tables (i.e. seated dining, no bar for standing at). Is that about the
>situation?

That is the way I understand it as well, but I have never been there.

>(Based on the above info, note that I'm about to reverse my previous
>endorsement of Luna for Sat night.) Then the answer seems clear to me:

>Keep Luna for Friday night dinner. The restaurant reviews say it has
>good food and a nice atmosphere. There'll be plenty of mixed drinks
>available at Goodtimes after dinner. Find someplace else for the main
>Saturday late night social gathering place.

For Friday evening dinner, personally, I don't see b/w-only as a deal
breaker, or even as a strong negative. I can see strong points with
Luna and strong points with Carluccio's, but none that make me favor
one over the other. I'll go with whatever Leah and the group decides
to go with for Friday dinner.

For Saturday, however, I suggested Luna due to the fact that I
understood part of the group would be meeting there whether or not we
designated it as our "official" after-show place or not. Primary reason
was to keep as much of the group together as we can. Secondary reason is
that I (and others) probably will not have dinner before La Cage (see
timing notes below) and it would be a great to get some food that
evening.

However, if we do the late La Cage show ...

>The drag show at Luna on Sat night had sounded like fun, but if it's

Comments?

>As I recall the selection criteria, some people were wanting a place

Or at least the option of a place where it is not too loud.

>Personally, I find it hard to visualize such a semi-quiet place on a
>Saturday night. Sounds like we need a fern bar kind of place. If it's
>late enough, Keys always got quiet after midnight or so, whenever their
>live entertainment ended.

If I may digress, if you remember at Pinkfest last fall, the first place
we went after dinner was very loud, but there wasn't really anybody
there, so we lasted maybe one drink. The next place we went to was
totally packed, and had live entertainment, but we found a place by the
bar in the back where we could both talk and enjoy the entertainment,
and we ended up staying there for hours. If there's someplace where they
have entertainment and is not disco volume, that would work fine.

>Even with their so-called straight
>orientation now, I find it hard to believe they would turn away a pack

I dunno. IANAL, but from what those who know Nevada law tell me, it's
not nearly as liberal as most states regarding this. I understand that
for most private property, your right to be there is "at will" of the
management, either for the property as a whole (casino, bar, etc.) or a
portion of the property, such as a restroom.

>Seems like a lot of this is dependent on whether we go to the early
>show (7 PM) or late show (10 PM) at LaCage.

{Double-checking timing ... click ... click} They had told me (the
ubiquitous "they") that since 9-11, La Cage was one show nightly, but
as Tina says, and the web just confirmed, they are back to two shows
nightly.

>In the past, we've always gone to the early show on Saturday night, to
>facilitate getting to RHPS. I notice that no time is currently posted
>in this year's schedule, Since we're not doing RHPS this year, we could
>go to the late show (10 PM), and then on to the late night gathering
>place (Spotlight, Keys, whatever).

That is very true. Since RHPS is currently off the plate, I see either
show as an option. (We did do the late(er) show in 2000.)

>We'd probably be arriving there just before midnight. This timetable
>might help alleviate some of the crowd and noise problems. Regardless
>of all that, I would personally prefer to attend the late show anyway.

>I have to start getting ready about 3 hours in advance, so that would
>mean starting at 4 PM for a 7 PM show. I just hate that. What do you
>think about going to the late show at LaCage this year?

Personally, I see advantages and disadvantages of both, and we need to
discuss, reach a conclusion, and, as we usually do, walk away with a
warm fuzzy feeling. :)

I'm always telling people to allow four hours of time prior to the
shows, which has meant wrapping up our Saturday afternoon activities
toward the middle of the afternoon when we do an early show. Late show
would alleviate that.

In 2000, we did the late (9:30 then) La Cage show, and we wound up the
Saturday afternoon thing with the buffet at Palace Station and there was
still time to get ready. There was, however, a time crunch for some of
the people going to RHPS.

Another thing to consider is that we do not currently have a "big gun"
activity for Saturday afternoon. I'm expecting a moderate, but not huge,
turnout for the Mall Crawl, which as you may remember I intended to be
a second-track type of thing. Doing the late show would allow time for
such a big gun.

but please share any discount information with this group, since any
change in plans or logistics will be a group decision by all of us.
