AAAAARRrrrgh! Mail problems:
Last night's mailing was a major pain. About 10% of the mailings bounced
for various reasons. Just about everything to sissify.com, hotmail.com,
and geocities.com failed for one reason or another.
If your mail is on sissify.com, hotmail.com, or geocities.com (better put
yahoo.com in there too, since they are now one with yahoo) can you please
check to be sure if the weekly mailing (titled: 2 Months 2 go ...) made it
and report back. I'm gonna do a partial resend tomorrow, but I don't want
to clutter mailboxes with dupes. Thanks.

Luna:
>I just stopped at Luna and talked with the owner about dinner
>there....... not sure if it will work.
>I told her we had to be out of there by around seven and she simply
>said "well, we open at six" and I said "I don't think that will be
>enough time" and she said "we can feed everybody prime rib in time" and
>I said "well, maybe not everybody wants that" and she said......well,
>she didn't say anything after that. LOL
>I was hoping she would have said I can be ready at five for you but she
>never did. Anyway, she is going to email me some menu suggestions by
>Weds. and when I reply I will tell her we need to sit by 5 so we don't
>have to rush and can catch some of the latecomers.....if she can't
>comply I'll find somewhere else. Another downside is they only can
>serve wine and beer presently and don't think their expanded licensing
>will be active in time for Diva.
Actually, if we wanna use Luna, taking a trip to the real world I can
see serving between 6 and 6:30 as working, possibly even later, assuming
drivers take them directly from there to Goodtimes. Looking back the
past few years at the Goodtimes thing, we have always said 7 or 7:30 but
very few are there before 8 and most bop in between 8 and 9. Last year I
remember we had one or two come in AFTER the group photo was taken,
which was shortly before 10.
Anyway, on Friday we're not up against hard deadlines like we are on
Thursday and Saturday.
>Poked my head in ICON also......they did a really nice job of cleaning
>it up and decorating....I think everyone will like the place.....
Good! I'm glad they cleaned the place up, I kept hearing how Angles was
getting very seedy.
>too bad they didn't serve food also.
IMAO, there is a need in LV for a GLBT place that has a laid-back
atmosphere, full bar, and serves simple food, like barburgers, chicken
strips, etc. This was what I thought LV Lounge was gonna try to do, but
...
>Anyway, that's it for now and I will have more this week.
Ok, thanks. Let us know what you find out.

More on Luna and options:

Comments, ladies (gentlemen)? Is b/w-only enough of a negative to look
for other venues?
IIRC, Milano's has no booze at all, and I haven't heard any major
complaints about it. Of course it's right in the middle of a whole bolus
of bars, so getting a drink on the way there or on the way back is not
a problem. Same with Luna, actually.
>Carluccio's is still viable....just the big room where we wanted to be
>is reserved but the rest of the place is available. There are three
>other room areas....one smoking area that would hold around 16 or so
>and two other smaller non-smoking areas to accomodate another 16 or so.
IMAO, we probably don't need one big room, and having both smoking and
nonsmoking available cuts down on any bitching from both sides of that
fence.
>Now, not knowing the turnout it may be sketchy but starting with the
>first wave at five there should be more than enough time for two
>seatings and the early finishers can go right over to Goodtimes.
Hmmmm (wheels turning) two seatings may actually be a Good Thing<tm>.
Those who are on time will not have to stand around or wait in the bar
for those who are fashionably late. It might also be a good thing to
seat DLV people in groups as they come in, semi-randomly grouping them
in groups which fit at various size tables.
Comments?
>The
>service is fast at Carluccio's anyway and we can instruct the hostess

>Keep in mind that they will probably be getting other diners too so it

We will have you a good headcount, but probably not until two weeks or
so before show time at the earliest, with a final count right before.
Here's what I'm planning to try this year as far as activity counts. ...
About three weeks before show time, we'll send out a note to each person
including a clickable link to a screen that will enumerate the
activities that require a headcount (dinner, golf, limo, etc.) and ask
for count on each one. I think that will work better and will be easier
to count than the old method of return e-mail.
Here are some thoughts about headcount, if I may digress.
We do have kind of a clue as to what our body count will be, but we're
dealing with many variables.
As of now (this is written Sunday morning, March 3), we have a total
headcount of 87 (make that 88, another one just popped in there),
including SO's, but I think that number is artificially high.
Breaking this down, 28 of these, including SO's, are returnees, and 60,
of them are newbees. When we started taking registrations, almost all
were returnees, now they are almost all newcomers, with the occasional
returnee in there.
My gut feeling is that almost all of the returnees will show, but quite
a few of the newbees, maybe 50%, even more, will not show. But again,
we are not predictable, right? :)
If 90% of the returnees and 50% of the newbees show, that puts us just
under 60 so far (but I said I was not gonna try to predict headcount
this year). :)
A response to a headcount request, especially one with numbers for the
activities, can be taken as a reconfirmation of intent to attend.
I'm toying with the idea of stating that the headcount survey is not
optional, with a few increasingly assertive reminders to defecate or
abdicate for those who do not respond.
I think we can safely say that somebody who does not respond in any way
to three requests for a headcount will not show up.
Also, it's safe to assume that no one activity will attract all of our
people.
Anyway, enough for the digression ...
>If you think this is viable we can go ahead with it or look for another
>place.
Comments, ladies? Personally, I'm sure I would be ok with either Luna
with beer/wine only or Carluccio's with possibly multiple seatings for
dinner on Friday.
>One other option would be to switch Hamburger Mary's with Carluccio's.
>HM's is more a bar food menu though. Maybe some of the girls would
>feel like a classier dinner if they are all dressed up for the Mixer
>and dancing etc. Personally for me it wouldn't matter but I am only
>one voice.
Ummmm .... IMAO, going to one bar setting for din-din and then another
for the Annual Mixer does not work as well as one thing Thursday at HM's
and a sit-down restaurant (Carluccio's, Luna, whatever) and then to
Goodtimes on Friday. But again, I'm only one other voice. :)

Yes, once, and an ex-gf and her sister were there. Unanimous, it did not
work. I looked like a trashy bleach-blonde junkie, really.

Hey, if I'm chicken, I'm chicken. :) It takes a lot of guts to let
yourself be called a chicken, right? :)

Language Arts (used to be called English when I was in school):
>P.S. OK, I'll bite. What's the deal on how you always spell cow-orker?
>You got to quit irking those cows or they might get mad!
LOL! :)
It's kind of a Usenet-ism, alleged intentional misspelling of co-worker.
You see it a lot on the newsfroups. :) Some people defensively insist that
it was started by Scott Adams, of Dilbert fame, but the use of cow-orker
on Usenet predates Adams' known Usenet appearance.
>(Is orking a verb?)
It is now. :) :)
Context would show it to be a close synonym to boink, pongo,
doin-the-nasty, etc. (Squick?) :) :) Notice that it's close in
spelling to "forking" and "porking" which are obvious synonyms. :)
