Hotels:

We already had our yearly iteration of hotel discussion last summer, but
now it's time to call the question, since people will want to start
making plans right after the holidays.

I'm proposing again that we name the Sahara and the Imperial Palace as
our "suggested" hotels, and as always, we mention to our people that
they are free to stay anywhere they choose.

If there are no objections, I would like to put this item into the
mailing that will go out right after the first of the year.

Yes, please let us know anything you can find out.

I sure hope so. Keys is the all-time fave of the DLV crowd.

Thanks. Please be thinking of alternatives, but let's think positive!

I hope these two will become good clean competitors. I'm sure there is
enough business for both of them.

It's your baby. :) I'm sure our crowd will be happy. As for crowd, we
will have the option of calling for a headcount if you need it,
otherwise we can take the registration count for those who will be in
that day, add a fudge factor, and get a close approximate count.

>Maybe a small appetizer party beforehand with cash bar? I would like

Yes, I tend to agree. I say go for it. Comments?

That is actually quite reasonable for a nice dinner.

Ok, please keep us informed as to how things are going.

>I am really bummed out about Keys, it's my favorite place in town.

I'm not happy about it either. I've always enjoyed the place and I will
miss it if it does not reopen. Please let us know as soon as you hear
anything. Hopefully the closure is only temporary.

Posters and flyers:

There have been a few people who have volunteered to display posters for
DLV 2002.

I have a mock-up on line at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2000/dlvposter.html

If anybody knows of any place that is appropriate to display these, I'll
get them to you. I'm making them in two sizes, one approximately 8x10"
and another about 12x15". Send me a snailmail address and what size and
how many.

Only thing I ask, that is that they be used if I send them to you.

If you would like to print these out yourself, let me know and I will
send you the appropriate .psd, .bmp, or .gif file. Be warned, these are
very "heavy". :)

I've also got a smaller version 5.5x8" which would be appropriate for a
small display or for a flyer.

Mt Charleston feedback:

I recently posted the questions in the a.v.lv newsfroup and received
the following:

Ok, thanks. There are some other comments about gambling in this mailing.
I think we're gonna pencil in gambling on Tuesday evening after the pre-
DLV thing, and mention that it's a wildcard option at other times.

Before I forget this, can you please get the exact address and the
phone number so I can add this to the online vendor list. Also could
you get their e-mail address, please, so we can add them to the DLV
mailing list? TIA. :)

We have Glamour Boutique on the slate for Thursday afternoon for their
open house. This has just been confirmed by John and Anthony. Since they
are planning to have some refreshments for the group, and some specials,
I did say to them that we would not two-track their time period, since
they will be going to some trouble for us.

I see either Wednesday afternoon or Friday afternoon as good for a
similar thing with Hidden Woman. Friday would give them more people to
potentially be exposed to, but Golf will probably overlap into the
afternoon, at least somewhat. Wednesday would give them fewer (as of
this day, hour, minute and second) conflicts, but fewer bodies.

I'm sure both Hidden Woman and Glamour Boutique will get a LOT of
walk-in traffic from our people, all through the DLV period. GB is
getting a very good reputation very rapidly.

I wanna also contact our Mary Kay people and set something up for those
who might want more of a "civilian" thing. <g> :)

Hey, the more vendors who make it known they welcome our people, the
better, Belz or anywhere. Our people are good customers. :)

This was brought up before. If you (or anybody) want to plan such a
thing, I see no objection. It's my opinion, however, that such a thing
may be a hassle. Thinking back to the last "garage sale" thing at a
local t* group meeting, lots of items did not move, even with reducing
the price to zero to avoid hauling the stuff back, locally in a car.
Compare this to shipping back or schlepping through an airport.

If you wanna plan such a thing, yes, it could be combined with the
pajama party, or else second-tracked some afternoon or after the feature
events of the evening.

Yes. We are good customers. We're well-behaved (well ...) and we don't
wanna cause any trouble.

The guards for the tower elevators will spook some people, but I've
never had any trouble (Stardust, Sahara, Luxor) and those staying at
the Sahara last year, which was a good percentage of our people, didn't
mention that as a negative point at all.

The guards are there for a purpose, to keep burglars, vandals, drunks,
and other non-guests out of the hotel towers, not to judge the dress
of the paying guests. I've found that after a day or so, they will
remember you (in either mode) and just wave you on thru. As is mentioned
before, those who tend to throw their weight around don't stay on the
payroll very long.

My experience with LV hotel security people has been positive, in both
modes. It seems to be those who have the tendency to throw their weight
(or badge) around unless they need to, don't stay hired very long.
Hotels don't wanna p*ss off paying/playing customers who would simply
go to That Other Casino down the street if hassled.

IMAO, the best thing to do if hassled is to take your business
elsewhere. For every one firm that doesn't want your business, there
are hundreds that do. Starve a rat today!

I have mixed feelings about taking a group of DLV people out gambling.
On one hand, I think it's priceless real-world exposure and can be a
major confidence booster to those who have not been out much. On the
other hand, a whole gaggle of t-girls at one table or bank of machines
does draw attention.

Gaming seems to be one of those things that is best done individually.
This past year, I almost always saw our people in the casino at the
Sahara after hours, but I would see one at the tables, another playing
VP at the bar, another over on the slots, etc. Yeah, it can be fun to
get a group together to do BJ, excuse me, 21 <bfg>, or craps, but is
there a demand for such a thing from our people?
