That was super, gang!
Yes, this year's DLV is gonna be a hard one to follow. Most everything
I've heard has been extremely positive.
I had a wonderful time, and I'm just glad I was able to be with such a
super group of fun-loving, bright, caring, and so nice-to-be-with
people. Again, there was not a single person there whose company I
did not like.
Again, we had people from just about every point there is on the t*
spectrum, from those who were taking their first peek out of the
closet, to those who were post-op and fully transitioned.
For those who peeked out of the closet last weekend, I hope that peek
was bright and sunny, and that your closet door does not close tightly
anymore. :)
For those who are fully transitioned, I think it says a lot for the
people in the group to have those who have "graduated" make that
special trip to be with us.
Special thanks to those who volunteered to help make DLV the success it
was, including Deb, Ronnie, Beth, Melissa, Patty, Tina, Vicki (in
absentia) and jeez I hope I'm not missing anybody there. :)
I'd like to keep this list open for the next few weeks to let everybody
get in their final feedback, and then shut it down. This next year, I
want to make the organizational list (dlvorg) a special opt-in list,
with an open invitation to all, of course. Then, I want to (re)name
the main DLV list to just "dlv", so I won't be creating and destroying
it each year. I figure those who want to be involved in the DLV planning
can subscribe to the dlvorg list, and then we can post a summary of the
goings-on once a month or so to the main dlv list.

Photographs:
As before, I want to put together a few pages showing many photos from
the past week. Several of you volunteered to contribute their own
shots to this effort.
If you would like to send in machine-readable photos, please do not
send them to the mailing list, as they will not make it. (For two
reasons, if anybody is that curious, I'll elaborate.) Instead, please
attach to e-mail using any of the common methods, and send to:
annie@annie.net
If you have trouble file-attaching to e-mail, lemme know and I'll
give you FTP instructions.
If you don't have any way of scanning your photos, I'll gladly scan
them for you, and I'll give you a snailmail address to send them to.
Before I make the pages public, I'll put them up at a private URL and
let everybody preview and (hopefully not, but the option is there)
kill any ones that you don't want on the web.

Can we talk:
The time has come, the geekbabe said,
To talk of many things.
Of Mary Kay, and Kenny Kerr,
Of flats, and pumps, and slings.
<vbfg> :)
Seriously, gang, now when it's fresh in your mind, it's time to comment
about what you liked, what you did not like, the things you did, the
things you skipped, the things you would like to see and the things you
don't care about.
Where did you stay? What did you like about it? What didn't you like
about it? Would you recommend it for DLV people next year?
Where did you eat? Did you like it or not? Would you recommend?
Sights, shops, shows. What did you like, what didn't you like, what
did you buy, what did you see?
Which of our activities did you go to? Which did you like? Which didn't
you like? Did you ever have trouble meeting up with the group or
contacting the group?
How about your comfort level? Were you at ease most places, or were
you nervous and always looking over your shoulder?
{Eat your heart out, Lewis Carroll!} :)

On the darker side:
Rain must fall. Doodoo happens.
I would like to address a few cases where things didn't go the way we
would have liked.
>I know a few of you, following the show, mentioned the one "downer",
>which was some of the cat calls, etc that were heard as we entered the
>show, and even some as we made our way to our cars as we left.
Well, I didn't see this, but things like this have happened before and
will happen again. (It may not be all that negative, I can imagine that
a group of 30 or so gg's all decked out in beads and sequins would most
certainly attract attention.) You just have to ignore/enjoy it, and
then go on enjoying your vacation.
>Well, thats our lot in life. I, like most of you, have the instinct to
>run over and provide a "lesson in etiquette" to the narrow minded souls
>that thought that that was the thing to do.
And it's a good thing everybody was a lady (or gentleman) and resisted
the urge to do so. Don't give them a reaction, as that will reinforce
the behavior.
People are naturally curious, however. As I was standing down by the
lounge in the Riviera, guiding people to the box office and the
escalator, I struck up a conversation with one of the concession people
and a Riviera security guard. They were curious about what the group
was, where everybody was from, etc. They remarked that they see this
kind of thing all the time, so such a thing was certainly not new to
either the Riviera staff or the regulars.
.....
One of the girls got her car towed from a vacant strip mall parking
area, and had to retrieve it from the tow-away lot at an ungodly hour
to the tune of $165. :( Yeah, I know it's a scam, but that kind of
$#!+ happens in Las Vegas, especially in the areas that are around
the popular late-night spots which do not have adequate parking of
their own. Yes, back home, nobody worries about things like that at
0-dark-30, but in Las Vegas, tow-aways go 24*7*365.
.....
The only difficulty anybody reported with restrooms was, of all places,
at the Freezone. This is the second report of this I've heard, and,
IMAO, their management and security people are out of line, period. As
far as I'm concerned, Freezone should be 86'ed from our list of
recommend places. Let's take our money to the hundreds of other
places that value our patronage. Starve a rat today!
.....
One lady lost all her DLV photos due to a technical mishap. :(
Please see note below.

Julie's request:
>This is an all out SOS to all that attended Diva Las Vegas 2000. I know
>this email list may reach those who did not attend, however, bear with
>me as I pour out my sole to all who did.
>This past "Diva Vacation" was just great. And I would like to let
>everyone know how lucky we are to know Annie and bow to her for her
>organizing another fantastic week in Las Vegas. I arrived on Friday and
>lived en femme for most of my five days and four nights there. Annie,
>thank you for my best vacation since 1982. I would also like to extend
>my thanks to Melissa, Tina and all the others who contributed their time
>and efforts to make Diva 2000 the event of the year.
>Now....
>As all of us know, WE crossdressers are vain and love to have our
>pictures taken. Now only do we study our own poses and vow to improve
>on our presentation to future snap-shots, we seek out others who are in
>the same photos and look for ways to improve our own looks. It's just
>the way we are (most of us).
>I, for one, have taken my share of photographs while at Diva, as most of
>you would know, and will continue to be on the spot with a camera to
>imortalize the moment. However there is a nasty little problem with the
>whole situation... I accidentally erased all the 150 something
>snap-shots in that digital camera I used during the extended weekend.
>Monday the 15th while trying to maximize the memory I had remaining for
>the final evening I pushed the wrong button and wiped out the entire
>memory. I almost cried. I just sat there stunned, in a world of hurt.
>Not only did I wipe clean the memory, I also failed all of you I had
>taken pictures of... promises to send to you the best pics of the
>weekend. I am still in a state of shock. But there is a lighter side
>of this human errror, I wasn't the only one with the ability to capture
>our vacation en femme... more cameras were at this Diva than at a Tokyo
>Nikon Convention.
>Soooo.... this is a plea to all of you with pics of our gatherings send
>me what you can, whether or not you feel them to be good or not, just
>send them. I will be sorting them and placing them in a new page on my
>site entitled Diva 2000.
>This is a humble and hurting soul that needs your help to ensure a
>suitable page to immortalize our vacation in Vegas. Just hit reply and
>attach what you can to the email. I thank you in advance of your
>helping me.
>Hugs,
>Julie

DLV, La Cage, etc.:
>Hi, Everyone-
>Just a quick note to all of you to say hello, good bye, and thanks so
>much for a wonderful time.
>I hope that those of you that did join us for the evening at La Cage had
>a wonderful time, as I did.
>I know a few of you, following the show, mentioned the one "downer",
>which was some of the cat calls, etc that were heard as we entered the
>show, and even some as we made our way to our cars as we left.
>Well, thats our lot in life. I, like most of you, have the instinct to
>run over and provide a "lesson in etiquette" to the narrow minded souls
>that thought that that was the thing to do.
>But I am proud to be associated with all of you, who decided that while
>these geeks needed to be taught a lesson, they actually received
>one......
>the lesson of what it is like to be confident in ones' self, to enjoy
>what we are and what we are doing, and to dismiss those that have a
>difficulty understanding the difference.
>As I said, I am proud to have met you, to be associated with you, and to
>have had the honor and fun of spending the evening with you.
>I think I can safely speak for the other members of the Cactus Rose Club
>in saying that we had a terrific time, and look forward to next year
>being bigger and better.
>And I would welcome your comments regarding the show, so we can make
>plans now for DLV2001.
>My best to you all..sorry we had to leave prior to the "end", but as
>Shakespeare said, "tempus fugit". [No, its not something dirty....:) ]
>I hope to stay in contact with those of you from other areas throughout
>the next year, and hope that any of you that have the opportunity to be
>in the Phoenix area will give me a call or drop me an email, and we can
>get together while you are here.
>And to those of you from the CRC, both from Arizona and those that are
>"associate members" from outside the Grand Canyon State, ..... I am
>proud to be associated with you. You were the epitome of what we want
>people to think of us. You displayed a sense of style and grace, even
>under "fire" that words can never describe. I love you all.
>Until later.
>Luv,
>Melissa
