Only 18 days left, gang!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Just about there:

Two weeks and change to go. :)

For the list, we'll now send it out on an as-needed basis, rather than
Sunday with an optional Wednesday mailing.

On the weekend of May 6-7, there will be a few large mailings, which
will include a final schedule, detailed instructions on how to get to
the major activities, contact numbers in LV, lists of recommended
vendors and clubs in Las Vegas, etc.

Those will not be archived on line, since they contain detailed contact
information, phone numbers, addresses, etc.

I suggest you print them out and take them with you when you travel to
DLV, as we will not be handing anything out in hardcopy form this year.

After that weekend, the only items sent out will be important notices
such as last-minute schedule changes. (This happened in 1998.)

Frank Marino Show:

Melissa writes: (somewhat edited)

>I want to cut the reservations for the group trip off at midnight,
>Friday, April 28. I will then begin making the reservation plans and
>informing those planning to attend directly.

Yes, gang, if you want to attend, and have not done so already, please
send Melissa a short note at:

Melissa_T17@mailcity.com

... so you can get on the list.

(Hmmmm, uh, did I remember to send in my reservation?)

>Just thought I would let you know. We have now 25 people that say they
>are going to join us for the Frank Marino/La Cage show on Saturday
>night, 5/13 at 9:30 pm.

Wow, that's great. Looks like we're gonna have a fantastic turnout
(for everything, not just for the show) this year. :)

>The bottom line of the plan is that I will make arrangements, at the
>best possible price, the best possible seating in the VIP section, and
>then make an arrangement with the Riviera for you to give them a
>"password" for the group, pay for your tickets via the phone, and then
>we will all meet there prior to the show, the tickets will be at the
>will call window under one name, and we will all go in together, and
>have a fabulous time.

Thanks, Melissa. Sounds like a great plan to me.

>I am also going to send a note to "Ms. Marino" :) in an attempt for our
>group to meet with her either before or after the show for photos,
>autographs, etc.

Frank (Frankie? Francine? Francesca?) usually is available to sign
autographs and meet with the fans right after the show just outside the
showroom. Somewhere I have an autographed program from DLV 97(?).

>AND, those that are wanting to go on to the RHPS following La Cage, we
>are working on getting someone to "coordinate" that so everyone has an
>opportunity to get back to their hotels, change, etc and go on to the
>show.

Actually, it might be best if they DON'T have time to change, unless
they have special RHPS costumes. :)

>Those wishing to go on for some "clubbing", stick around, and we will
>plan on doing so. Suggestions on where to go? Our ears are open. Let
>me know.

Well, the "alternate" event on the schedule is clubbing at Gypsy. There
are others in the immediate area, well within walking distance (Triangle
District, just north of Trop and Paradise), so I'm sure some DLV people
will be in all of them.

There's also Keys and Las Vegas Lounge in the Commercial Center area.

>And , it goes without saying, I hope that you are going to be able to
>attend the conference. "It just wouldn't be the same without ya!"

Only one reason why I won't be there, and I don't wanna talk about
that. <semi grin>

>Can't tell you how excited I am to be attending!

I know what you mean, I'm getting excited too. :)

Feedback (misc. topics):

This comes from the question "Do you have any special needs or concerns"
on the last mailing.

>RHPS Virgin (Gotta do it).

Yes, and I see you shiver with antici ...

... {say it} PATION! :)
. . . . . . . . . .

>This is my first time out so please understand if I chicken out

... and ...

>Yes, very nervous, if all goes well this will be my first time out!

... and ...

>I'm scared, but I will go through with it, I swear.

If I may get very serious for a while here ...

Notice the multiple responses along this line.

It's ok to be nervous, it's human to be so, but you will find the
feeling goes away very rapidly once you get out for only a few minutes.

Even though you may not know anybody until you meet up with the group,
you will be among friends. These are some of the finest people you will
ever meet. They are good-natured, fun-loving, and very inclusive.

I know quite a few people who will be there personally, and I can
honestly say there is not a single jerk among us.

Remember, every one of us has gone through what you are going through
now. We know what it's like, and want to do what we can to help you
enjoy it the most.

If you feel nervous, say so, you will get lots of very sincere sisterly
support.

If you are uncertain about things like what to wear, how to act, your
makeup, etc., say so. You will get more advice than you will ever
need. :)

If you get there, and can't get up the nerve to walk out of your hotel
room, let us know, we'll get a "big sister" there to escort you and
reassure you. (Yes, this has happened.)

If you're more at ease going to the first couple events or so in
boymode, and then ease into girlmode when you've met the group and feel
more comfortable, that's ok. We've had people go between modes every
year so far.

What's important is that you enjoy the trip, and make the most of it.
. . . . . . . . . .

>Weather forecast? (i.e. what to wear?)

Weather in Las Vegas in May is moderately-warm to very hot days, and
moderately-cool to hot evenings. A sweater is the only wrap you will
most likely need in the evening.

Plan to dress cool and casual for the days.

I remember some years back that when one of our people was filming
us outside the Liberace Museum, I thought I was gonna burn up!

One thing to keep in mind is that some of the casinos run the air
conditioning at a level that's roughly the same as a meat locker. Seems
like the hotter it is outside, the colder it is in the casinos. I've
sometimes needed a sweater in some casinos, and I've noticed others
were wearing them too.

Also, take an umbrella along. You may not need it, but ...
It doesn't rain much, but when it does, it can do so quite heavily
with very short notice.
. . . . . . . . . .

>ttfn! sounds like fun!

I agree. It will be! :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Don't dream it ...:

>Well here is some misc info for you I chatted with Katie, the lady that
>does Frankie in the RHPS in Vegas, an sent her the date for the Sat nite
>show we all will be attending an she is going to try and arrange to
>perform as Frankie again :o)

That's great, I thought she did a fine performance last year. :)

>I thought she did a great job also :o) and this year her arm isn't in a
>cast (that she was in for 6 weeks last summer :-( she is looking fwd to
>having visitors for the show also (they love visitors )

Hmmmm, she worked very well around the cast (the plaster one, that is),
I didn't even remember that until you reminded me.

>and also she mentioned the 25th Aniversary Con for RHPS will be in Vegas
>this year but, its the same weekend as Fall Harvest .

Well, that kinda leaves me out. :) :)

>I look forward to the pre welcome brunch at the Sahara, I think I am
>going to arrive early an take a look at the New Nascar Cafe :-)

Brunch? More like din-din. :)

I've seen the outside of the Nascar Cafe at the Sahara, but haven't
seen it inside yet. They tell me (the ubiquitous "they") that the
Sahara roller coaster is now being tested and should be ready for
rides Real Soon Now.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Makeovers:

>could you tell me where the makeovers will held thanks.

Don't have the exact location yet. {Looking down at string on finger}
One thing I have to do is contact Ronnie and let her decide on a
location.

From the returns on the last mailing, we do have quite a few who will
be attending this, so it *will* be happening this year. I do think that
having this early in the event is a good idea.

Mailbag (golf, RHPS, etc.):

>>>The initial responses for the possibility of a golf outing was a total

>>>would be in Vegas on Monday. It is my intention to call for a morning
[snip]

>OK I've been silent long enough. (Not because I haven't had anything to

>>>>>the apparent necessity that your group go to FI shows. No offense,

Yes, DLV would not be DLV without at least one of these.
. . . . . . . . . .

>>>I enjoyed Kenny Kerr much more than Marino. Are we doing it
>>>this year?
>
>I don't care which I go to, I just go for the drinks and the humor. :)
>Oh and to watch annie do her nails in public.(duck)

LOL. I almost forgot about that one. :)
. . . . . . . . . .

>> Ooooohhhhhh, a VIRGIN! Margeth, are you listening?
>
>Yes I am and she can't have Pooh!!!!!! he's mine!! All mine!!!!
>do you hear?!!! ;)

For those listening in, those who have never been to a Rocky Horror
Picture Show performance are referred to as "virgins". Margeth lost
hers last year. Be prepared for some good-natured and very humorous
stunts and gags before the film starts.
. . . . . . . . . .

>>>DLV 2000 is six nights long, and some people will be in LV from earlier
>>>in the week. Partying successfully for that many nights in a row means
>>>you need to get some sleep sometime during the daylight hours.
>
>Hmmm...partying sucessfully? I've always considered myself be quite
>sucessful at that even though I never really tried hard!

Well, for the past several years, several people have been quite
successful at partying at DLV. :) Just remember to use the ladies
room before driving to Henderson. {ducking and running} :)
. . . . . . . . . .

>>>I recommend using a sleep mask ($5 at your local pharmacy) and some foam
>>>ear plugs. They help a lot if you are trying to sleep durig the day.
[bobbitt]

>Nothing a good couple of shots of Galiano won't take care of...and
>just think, more sucess!!!

Jeez! don't remind me. :) (That stuff is NASTY!)
. . . . . . . . . .

>> Wildcard options include gaming, nightclubbing, sightseeing,
>> shopping, side-trips, people-watching, etc.
>
Hey! with all this going on, when am I goona have time to get some? ;)

Uh, get some what?

Some sleep? Lotsa time for that between 7 and 12 in the morning.

Get some food? Restaurants open 24x7 in Las Vegas.

Oh, that's not what you meant? Well, there's always the Delmar
Motel. {ducking, running, and hiding} :)

Another trip to LV:

>Annie, just got back from LV - lots of fun.

LV usually is. :)

>Couple of things - the Rio has a fantastic view from the VooDoo Lounge
>(52 stories up) at night - however, you have a $5 cover charge to go up
>there - drinks are high and the band is LOUD, but the view from the
>balcony is fab.
>
>Also, Rio has free carnival shows (floats on tracks of the ceiling of
>the casino, which is worth the trip - there are shows at 10 PM and 11 or
>12 midnight - maybe earlier - can't recall - we did the 10 PM.
>
>Also, free shuttle between Rio and Harrah's (in the back).

I've been to the Rio a couple times, but not lately, and never made it
to the Voodoo Lounge. Word on the street is that it is t-friendly.

>The new hotel/casino, Paris is magnificent!

I agree. When I was out for a conference in December, Karen and I went
there and played VP for a while. One of the more interesting places of
the new ones, imao.

>Also, the LV Hilton has the Star Trek Experience, $15, which is
>worth it.

We'll have a number of people staying there this time. Although it's
not on the schedule, the STE is an option for any afternoon.

>Flamingo Hilton has a seafood buffet every night - all you can eat,
>$14.99.

Hey, whatever happened to the good $5.95 buffets?!

>Venetian has very tight slots and high stake tables, lousy
>gambling - but quite a place to see.

Been there once, played, lost. :(

>Mandalay Bay is spectacular to visit and there is a free tram between
>Excalibur and Mandalay Bay. Also, free monorail between MGM Grand and
>Bally's.

Actually, there are monorails and shuttles all over the place. Too bad
nobody has a comprehensive map of all. Usually these will run between
properties of the same management. I know it's possible to get to
Bally's (Flamingo and Strip) from Mandalay (way south on Strip) with
only two monorail transfer. On many evenings, this is faster than
driving on the Strip.
