Only 76 days left, gang!

Latest updates:

Welcome to those who just joined the list. If you have any questions or
concerns, please let us know. Hope to see you this May.

If you're new, please take a few minutes and review the recent
mailings. Start with the kick-off mailing at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/dlv04arc/0005.html

Please review the mailings from that one forward, as some information
will not be repeated.
. . . . .

This is a rather long mailing, but it has a lot of very important
information regarding DLV 2004.

Registrations continue to come in. 69 validated registrations plus 13
SO's, for a total validated headcount of 82. We've passed our total
headcount for DLV 2001. Again, no outstanding validations.

We appreciate everybody's cooperation with the validation process.
Almost all newcomers got it right the first time. Good show! :) Thanks,
gang! :)

More misc. Q&A:

Another question asking "where your main event is going to be held?"

Our activities happen all over the Las Vegas area, with none of them
designated as THE main one.

A related question:

>Also, what days should you be there so you don't miss out on all of the
>important things?

That depends on what you personally consider important. :) The schedule
is firming up now, and even though some changes may have to be made,
most of the major things are in place, and you can get an idea of what
appeals to you so you can make your personal plans.

If you can't make it for the full week, there's no real penalty for
coming and going as your schedule permits.
. . . . .

{in response to the Pity Party write-up}
>>+anybody willing would be welcome (from the seasoned drag queen to the
>>+gee i always wanted to do that) the stage will be small so duets

>Is this only for drag queens? I thought this was for crossdressers?

By "this", I'm not sure if you're meaning DLV as a whole or the Big Show
Pity Party, but the answer is the same. :)

DLV (and all activities) is for everybody who finds it of interest.

This includes people from all points on the TG spectrum and then some,
including SO's, friends, guests, and yes, admirers, friends of the
community, and curious civilians.

Call for Big Sister Volunteers:

Thanks to all who have stepped forward to volunteer as Big Sisters.

Our Big Sister Coordinators are about to begin the matching process
between Big Sisters and Little Sisters.

Before they start matching, our Big Sister Coordinators would like to
have as large a pool of potential Big Sisters as possible, so the Little
Sisters will have a best-fit match in all cases.

Therefore, we're putting out one more call for those who would like to
volunteer to be Big Sisters.

Being a Big Sister can be quite enjoyable and rewarding. Over the course
of DLV, many lasting friendships have been formed between those who were
Big Sister/Little Sister pairs.

No, you don't have to be an expert, but just a sane mind and a friendly
face to be there if needed.

Qualifications? Most of you who are returnees qualify easily.

* Attended DLV at least once in the past.

* Have a desire to help others. This is actually the most important
qualification.

* Are willing and able to set the example regarding dress and behavior,
particularly in general public settings.

If you would like to volunteer to be a Big Sister, please visit:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/bigsisvol.html

"V", The Ultimate Variety Show:

Each of our mailings between now and DLV will feature one of our
activities in depth.

This week we feature our Thursday evening trip to see "V", The Ultimate
Variety Show, at the Venetian.

"V" is best described as a modern Las Vegas show, updated with acts
featuring comedy, high-energy performances, and action sequences.

As Aiko, who is coordinating this activity, writes:

+Ladies (and Gentlemen),

+The production show that has been selected for DLV 2004 is ..... (drum
+roll, please)......“

+"V", The Ultimate Variety Show, at the Venetian.

+The show date is Thursday, May 6th at 6:00pm.

+The show will be followed by the traditional Limo Tour of the Strip.

+This year, you have a choice of seating areas, which is also reflected
+in the ticket prices. General admission will cost $40, Main Floor will
+cost $50, and VIP seating will cost $60. This is our group rate and
+we'll save a few $ off of retail.

+I forsee us not sitting together as a large group. Within the three
+price areas, I will get seats together as a group. As Annie has
+mentioned previously, it may matter who is sitting to your left or
+right to begin with, but when the lights go down, it doesn't matter
+who's sitting 2-3 rows behind you.

+You will have three options for payment of tickets.

+First Option: For those willing to jump through a few hoops, I'll make
+a postal address available for you to send a check or money order to me
+(Aiko).

+For prepayment instructions for this option, please write to
+dlv@geekbabe.com or simply reply to this mailing and state that you
+want V Show prepayment information.

+I will then contact you with payment instructions. I will try to
+accommodate those who pre-pay as to their wishes about their seating
+preference, in both price and who they wish to sit with, as long as
+they are in the same price area. I must RECEIVE your payment by April
+20, 2004, or you will not be included in this option. Any payments I
+receive by mail after April 20, 2004, will be returned to you after
+DLV04.

+Second Option: For those NOT willing to jump through any hoops, and
+want to pay for their show tickets at DLV, I will try to get you the
+best available seating in whatever area is available. You must have
+your CASH payment to me no later than the end of activities on Tuesday
+evening, May 4th.

+With this option is the seat you receive will be only the best
+available, one day prior to the show, and you may not be sitting with
+any of our group.

+However, last year, Gina went to the box office at Bally's and bought
+her own ticket in the morning of the day of the show. She ended up
+with center stage, next to Tina's escort. So I'm not saying you can't
+get a good seat if you wait until DLV to pay. :) I'm just saying you
+are going to get the best available at that time.

+Third Option: You can arrange and buy your own ticket. :)

Ladies (gentlemen), this is a very good price for a very good show. You
have your choice of seating options and payment options according to
your preferences and your pocketbook.

Please join me in thanking Aiko for coordinating this, and for doing
it in a way that allows you to have a wide variety of options.

For prepayment mailing instructions, write dlv@geekbabe.com or just hit
REPLY.

Please remember that all ticket sales are final. No exchanges, no
refunds. These are the house rules, not ours.

Some visual dress notes:

We know that many of you focus a lot of attention and energy on outfit
selection and dress concerns.

Our general dress guidelines appear on the web at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlvdress.html

Please don't think of these as "Rules" (yecch!), but as helpful hints
to make your experience at DLV more rewarding.

If you hold a validated registration and would like to see the working
draft (still very incomplete) of our activity-by-activity dress
suggestions, just write to dlv@geekbabe.com (or just reply to this
mailing) and we will get this to you.

We would now like to show some examples of some outfits that are typical
of what would be appropriate to wear to some of our various activities.

This list is in no way all inclusive, nor is it implied that everybody
attending DLV should dress like those in the photos linked below. These
are examples of what has been worn and what is appropriate to wear for
certain activities. These are certainly not requirements.

For any activity, what you wear depends on a number of factors,
including your personal style, your likes and dislikes; your age,
height, size, and body type; and what is usual and customary to be
worn to such an activity.
. . . . .

First, let's discuss casual outfits and show some examples ...

Many in our community seem to avoid and even dislike casual. Casual has
a bad rep. It's often considered frumpy and dumpy, when compared to the
more dressy and glamourous outfits.

Casual, even very casual, can be cute, feminine, and stylish. Casual is
very trendy, for all ages and sizes, and is what is customarily seen in
Las Vegas, especially during the day.

In Las Vegas, particularly during the day, casual is THE look you should
try, particularly if you don't want to attract attention.

Let's take a look at some casual outfits.

For a side trip in the desert:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2003/pics/02-area51-4.jpg
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2003/pics/02-mailbox5.jpg

In the first photo, Michelle shows off her outfit for the "Cammo Dudes"
who are watching her closely. This is a casual yet stylish look which
works for everyday activities in Las Vegas and such things as side
trips. Notice the shoes, quite appropriate for the time, place, and
circumstance of a side trip in the desert, and very typical of what
many women wear with casual outfits when on vacation in Las Vegas.

The second photo shows a group of our people posing by the "Black
Mailbox" which is actually white. :) All outfits are good selections for
something like our scheduled side trip to Rhyolite. (Don't look at the
hair, it was windy and a definite Bad Hair Day.<tm>)

For golf:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2000/country/i14.jpg
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2003/pics/09-golf1.jpg

In the first photo above, Andrea wears a cute but casual top and Bermuda
length shorts to the golf match. The second photo shows the 2003 golf
group with many such outfits.

For shopping:

All in all you're just another chick in the mall! :)

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv99/outnabout/d992901.jpg
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv99/outnabout/d992808.jpg

Ok, I admit, nobody in the two photos above is a fashion plate, but this
trio is attracting no attention whatsoever at the Boulevard Mall. Very
casual separates, such as above, are what 30-40-ish women typically wear
when shopping in malls. Notice the shoes. You'll find that most women
wear athletic shoes, sandals, or casual flats while mall shopping.

For sightseeing:

In the casinos, on the Strip, in various attractions and tourist spots ...

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2003/pics/10-dsc00188.jpg

Casual separates, such as those in the above photo, work well for
daytime sightseeing and tourist activities. These outfits are very
typical of women in their 30's and 40's who visit Las Vegas.

For socializing:

A mixture at our mixer. :)

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2002/d0214100.jpg
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv99/goodtimes/DCP00473.jpg
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv99/goodtimes/d991103.jpg

These show various, mostly casual, outfits seen at our Annual Mixer over
the years. Most of these would be appropriate for those who wish to
first attend our activities and perhaps wander on to more mainstream
places later in the evening.

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2003/pics/01-PICT0023.jpg
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2003/pics/09-DLV03-127.jpg

Above are examples of what was worn to our Garden Party in 2003. This
was a relatively cool morning, hence the long sleeves. Notice the
cover-up. As the temperature warms up, this can be taken off and
carried.

Again, these are casual looks that work almost anywhere, anytime in Las
Vegas and do not attract attention.

For dining:

If you want a relaxing and enjoyable meal without worrying about others
staring, casual is the way to go.

http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/pinkfest/pink03/14A032594079012.jpg
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2000/town/d2k0517.jpg

These photos show a variety of casual separates and coordinates which
work well for casual dining. (The first photo above was actually taken
at Pinkfest, although most of those pictured have also attended DLV.)
. . . . .

Ok, enough for casual, let's look at some dressier styles.

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2000/dressed/DCP00849.jpg

Shown above are dressier separates, the classic skirt and blouse
combination. In this day and age, this look is more dressy than is seen
in the casinos and on the Strip during the day, but it's an informal
evening look that just about anybody can wear.

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2002/d0214115.jpg

Another good example of moderately dressy separates. These have enough
of the casual look for daytime activities, and are dressy enough for
most evening activities as well.

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2003/pics/02-s17.jpg

The cocktail dress is very popular for upscale early evening activities.

You will see this look in casinos and restaurants during the evening,
but seldom, if ever, during the day. This would be appropriate for such
things as our Welcome Celebration or Annual Mixer, if you choose to
dress up a bit for them.

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2003/pics/09-DLV03-122.jpg

The basic black sheath. This is one of the most versatile fashion items
you will ever find. It's ageless and timeless. About the only times
something like this will not work would be for the casual daytime
activities, such as shopping and side trips.

This dress would work for just about any of our evening activities, and
even for the most dressy ones, such as the shows and the limo tour.

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2002/d0214118.jpg

Elegant and classy! Samantha and Cat show a couple of very attractive
evening looks which are quite appropriate for a show, a limo tour,
dinner in a nicer restaurant, or about any of our evening activities.
Pure class, but not overstated.

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2000/dressed/d2k0404.jpg
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2001/edbm/d01128.jpg
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2000/town/Lori.jpg

If you wish to dress up a bit for such things as our Annual Mixer and
Welcome Celebration, these are some examples of the looks you can try.
. . . . .

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv99/rhps/DCP00505.jpg
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2001/rhps/d01419.jpg

Yes, for some activities, such as our Night Of The Soiled Doves and
Rocky Horror Picture Show, it is not only acceptable, but considered
customary to wear something that's more exotic.

Again, all of these are not requirements, but examples and suggestions.
If you wish to discuss dress for any DLV activity, or wardrobe selection
in general, please post your questions or comments on the DLV Discussion
Forum at http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2004/dlvdisc/

this will be listed. Many merchants in Las Vegas want our business!
