Announcements:

Next Sunday's mailing will most likely be the last regular mailing on the
DLV 2002 general list. Names on this list will carry over to the DLV 2003
announcement list, which will become active toward the end of this month.

Until the first of the year, the traffic on that list will be mostly
monthly summaries, except for one call for discussion regarding the
dates for DLV 2003, which will occur most likely in August.

If anybody does have any unfinished DLV 2002 business, please put it on
the table.

Survey comments:

Here are the written comments that came in with the survey responses.

I've taken the liberty of adding a few notes here and there.
. . . . .

+Had dinner in Boardwalk Cafe during Boarkwalk Reception with 6 other
+girls from DLV. Excellent food and prices. Only concern/incident was
+at Boardwalk where we met after Limo Tour. I didn't notice, but was
+told by another girl that we (five of us) were being followed by
+security person(s) at Boardwalk, both inside and outside while walking
+to parking garage. Would have a problem recommending that hotel to any
+DLV girls.
..........

+The little sister I had cancelled so it really was a non-experience,
+although it would have been nice to know she had cancelled sooner so I
+would not have spent two and a half days trying to locate her.

Unfortunately things like this happen. Some people are just not ready
for something like DLV. What is important, however, is that you were
there and prepared to help her out if needed. That is truly appreciated
by me and all the others here.
..........

+Golf should remain on Friday. Dinner at Sasha's should become the
+Saturday night event, with Michael Cagle followed by additional
+libations and pleasant conversation on station, followed by the FI show
+at Sasha's.

It's far too early to do any fitting of activities to days for next
year's event. DLV has grown and changed so much each year. Besides,
we want to keep DLV fresh. Even though DLV 2002 was great, we don't
want to simply rewind and replay it in 2003.
..........

+Hope this helps. On the money issue, I purposely choose to stay at the
+Belagglio, and as such paid dearly. It was wonderful, the staff was
+excellent, the bars great and we had a blast and I truly hated the IP
+last year. Mainly because the wait for the elevator was forever and the
+temperature of the hallways was 100+ degrees. Face it kid, you did
+great.
..........

+I liked DLV better overall when it was just a small group of friends.
+If it gets much bigger, I wonder if it would be better just to let the
+group keep growing into another tranny convention and get a small group
+of friends together to start over, with no advertising, registration,
+etc.

To ease any concerns of DLV morphing into a convention, I heard less of
a call for it to do so than I heard last year, and several remarks,
mainly from the newcomers, that they found DLV a refreshing change from
the conventions.

I think there is even more inertia toward keeping the vacation format
and the informality than there was last year.

If there *is* such a call for more of a convention like thing, I'm gonna
suggest that those who want to see a convention happen spin off, with
the blessing of all, and plan just that, a convention, to either run
concurrently with, or end-to-end with the vacation.

But I haven't heard such a call, this year yet, anyway.

Bottom line: DLV, the vacation, ain't goin' away!

<hint>
But, speaking of smaller affairs, we do have Pinkfest, which last year
had very much the feel of DLV 1997. This is tentatively scheduled to
happen again this October 18-20 in Chicago. Keep this in mind. :)

..........

+DLV'02 was AB FAB!!! I'll Definately be back for DLV'03 (this was my 2nd
+DLV and my first time as an co-organizer of DLV).

You might as well have signed this one! (Ab Fab) :) :) :)
..........

+I am concerned that people sign up for an event, money is spent for
+their food and liquor, and then they do not show up. Both the swim party
+and the Slumber Party were left with Hundreds of dollars of food and
+drink that were not used. The money for these items came from a few
+persons own personal pockets and they had to declare that money a loss.
+Indeferance to these events as was shown this year may cause these
+events to not happen next year. Be kind, if you sign up on good faith
+then show up on good faith. I was stunned and disapointed at the lack of
+responsability shown by the girls this year for these two events.

Agreed, and one followup on this will happen shortly.
..........

+Best yet. Lot of fun. Had a ball...yayayaya...etc, etc, etc.

+{Le}ts do it again....next week.
..........

+I like the concept of DLV because there was no isolation with us and the
+rest of Las Vegas. I honestly wish more local events would follow this
+format. great people...great town...wonderful venues. I would just say
+this....make the Las Vegas Lounge part of side trip for the truly
+daring<wink>

The main reason that we did not schedule anything at the LV Lounge this
year was due to complaints in 2001 of loud music and higher drink prices
once the dancers went on stage. We decided to leave it as an option for
those who want to go individually.
..........

+1. I would appreciate less noise level from music.

+2. I would certainly appreciate more light, especially a place in each
+room where there is more light for picture taki{ng}
..........

+I made the mistake of not planning my time to be in Vegas for the full
+week. Will definately attend the full event next year. Impressive work
+effort, congradulation. Blessings to all our feminine spirits
+celebration.
..........

+I just hope you have this when I can come next year. The experience was
+wonderful! Thanks so much!
..........

+would like to see more events at Strip resorts as opposed to being off
+the beaten track, paradise road area etc would like venues more
+transportation friendly. In my opinion a trip to Vegas should have more
+"Vegas stuff".
..........

+I would like to see DLV run from Sun. to Sun. I believe I could bring
+more people from Toronto and area in Canada if it started on Sunday and
+ended Sat. night. That is because then I could offer packages with
+several companies and airlines instead of just one. Only Canada's most
+expensive airline/tour company offered packages from Tuesday April 30 to
+May 6.

+I would also like to see more events/activities in maintstream venues as
+opposed to GLBT establishments.

+But overall it was a terrific event, far better than anything I had
+attended in Canada, N. Y state or PA.

+I congratulate the organizers and am amazed they do this all for free
+for the good of the TG community at large and without the benefit of a
+club structure to back them up. The volunteers are a turly generous,
+caring group.
..........

+Nice people, Nice time! Fond memories. Will go again.
..........

+Scheduling was an issue related to locations; Not enough time to get
+there. To many late night/early mornings in the casino; could not get
+up to attend anything before 2PM.

+Would like to see a casino night where we all meet at the four queens
+or elsewhere for some gaming fun.

+Have things not so spread out: Have dinner at the Rivera and take in
+Frank Marinos show after, not so much travelling.

+Only restroom issue I had was at the Sahara while washing my hands in
+the mens room. Some guy walked in, took one look, did a 180 and walked
+out only to return 15 seconds later. He wasn't sure what restroom he
+was in!!!

IMAO, that is the wrong room to use in girlmode.

+Had a wonderful time at the golf course, it's been a dream that I have
+finally realiazed. Would loved to have taken part in the festivities at
+the 19th hole but could not due to the dinner that evening; a girl has
+to freshen up you know.

+Anyways I had a wonderful time shopping at Wal Mart, dining in a
+wonderful Italian restaurant, dining at the casinos, playing at the
+casinos, and bing treated like a lady all the time!! Thanks again to
+all of you girls who put in so much time and effort. See you again next
+year. Love to all the girls
..........

+Apparently drew some extra scrutiny from Boardwalk security after using
+the ladies room, shortly after another DLV girl was denied use of the
+ladies room.
..........

+I would attend DLV again if the venue or main hotel was upscale. The
+Sahara or Imperial Palace is certainly not up to my standards. I am
+willing to spend a lot more money for a more glamourous high scale
+experience. Overall, DLV was satisfactory. The organization and
+hospitality of the hosteses was superb. Thanks!!!

We've already had some discussion regarding more upscale facilities for
DLV 2003. What will most likely happen is that we will be suggesting at
least one upscale hotel for those who want the option of something more
luxurious. We are also very much in agreement that we need to keep DLV
affordable for all. We'll always (continue to) suggest at least one
midscale place as we have for the past several years.

The expression "venue or main hotel" is a bit confusing to me and some
of the other organizers. We don't see DLV ever having a single venue or
a main hotel. We'll continue to have activities all over, and our people
will probably never stay in the same location.
..........

+DLV 2002 was my first and it greatly exceeded expectations. I'm sorry
+I did not attend more activities. I was hesitant to sign-up for more as
+I was unsure how I would fit in. Some activities are slightly lower
+rated than others as I attended the daytime activites in boymode. As
+advertised all the DLV ladies were friendly and encouraging. I arrived
+alone and left with many new friends. Many thanks to all the organizers
+who did a great job and to attendees who made me feel so welcome. Next
+time you won't be able to get rid of me.
..........

+I stayed at the Sahara. Except for one loud valet there were no
+indications of staff discomfort. In fact, all others were friendly and
+professional.

+However, I think Sat. was Prom night for one or two local high schools.
+I saw several groups of very young individuals checking in (and
+checking out Sun.), with coolers and coolers of drink. No doubt to
+swim, hot tub, and party. They were in your face obnoxious.

I know it was prom night for some. Stephanie over at Glamour Boutique
did makeup for some of the civilian promgoers that day.

Short of buying out the entire hotel, there is little we can do
regarding who the other clients at any hotel are. However, the hotels do
want to keep their gaming-age people happy, so if things get out of
hand, the hotel staff will intervene. We saw this last year.

+I had breakfast every day at the Blueberry Pancake house on Flamingo.
+They were very accommodating. And their patrons were friendly as well.

+Althoug I love Sahsa's and Milano's I would really have liked to spend
+more social time like we did Friday at Goodtimes. That was a good
+opportunity to slow down from the hectic pace and share meaningful
+conversation.

+I had a great time, what too too little of it I had to spend, at
+DLV2002.
..........

+Anyway Diva Las Vegas could be held the week before the Pride Parade.

+Would like to stay a bit longer in LV to attend both, but not with a
+whole week in between. Thanks

Yes, this will be one factor considered when setting the dates for DLV
2003.
..........

+Being older (66) my so and I don't care for late night activities or
+smokey noisey clubs.

+Also, we found it difficult to mix in as
+newcomers as most people had their associations already formed.

In 6 years of DLV, this is the first time I have ever heard anything
like this. Almost universally reported is just the opposite, being
uneasy walking in, but being just one of the girls a few minutes
later.

+We had to instigate contack and were somewhat reticent to do so so as
+not to "but in to conversations". We think a newcomers type group
+would be very helpful in some low key socializing atmosphere.

+My wife was welcomed at the SO lunch and enjoyed it.

+I hung back
+because of the forward approach needed to mix in.

I'm very surprised. I'm hoping this is an isolated case. I watched
closely for anybody who was alone or did not seem to be having a good
time. I didn't see any. I observed newcomers and oldtimers mixing at
every activity. Personally, I hung around with people I had known for
years, and for those I had known for hours. From my observation,
everybody seemed to mix well. Our people were on the lookout for
anybody having difficulty.

+XPRESSIONS' GIRLS ARE DIVAS IN LAS VEGAS

+Only in a city where excess rules would a large gathering of
+cross-dressers and transsexuals cause nary a stir.

+That was what Xpressions members Celia, Elaine, Timberlee and Laura
+experienced when they joined more than 80 TGs at the sixth annual,
+6-day Diva Las Vegas at the start of last month. Two other Ontario
+Tgirls also went Samantha from Hamilton and Kate of London. Laura's
+wife Kathryn was part of the group of about 20 SOs on hand and one
+other local GG, Wildside owner Paddy Aldrdige, was registered for Diva
+Las Vegas 2002 but had to cancel her trip at the last minute.

+Most DLV participants hailed from all corners of the U.S., including
+Alaska and Hawaii, but the small band of Canadians weren't the only
+foreigners in attendance; one CD came across the Pacific from New
+Zealand. We were surprised how many DLVers had
+connections to Canada one Tgirl from Arizona was born in Toronto and
+is still a Canadian citizen and some of the trannies we met are
+married to Canadians.

+Your could go to DLV for as many days as you could spare. Most of the
+Ontario girls were there from start to finish but Timberlee could only
+get away for a long weekend of en femme fun and Kate only made it out
+to one event.

+A DIFFERENT KIND OF CD GATHERING

+DLV is a different kind of CD gathering. It's not a convention there
+were no speeches or award presentations; no serious seminars or
+workshops; no banquets; no drag shows or pageants for the participants
+to enter, etc. DLV isn't backed by a big TG organization or a local
+club. While you're asked to register (some locals don't even bother,
+they just show up), there's no fee to pay. It's billed as a vacation
+and that's exactly what the organizers deliver. DLV is put together by
+a loose affiliation of volunteers, mostly participants from past DLVs,
+and they plan the events and activities via email.

+DLV participants pick what they want to do from a smorgasbord of events
+and activities. And there's lots of time left over to do your own
+thing, too. Signing up for some activities is required a week or so
+before DLV but you only pay up front for a few events where tickets
+must be purchased, and then, except for one show, you don't pay until
+you are in Vegas. In most cases, sign up is only so organizers can
+give restaurants, bars/clubs, etc., an idea of how many people to
+expect. And you can always change your mind and opt out of an activity
+with no recriminations.

+VENUES RANGE FROM GLBT HOT-SPOTS TO MAINSTREAM LOCALES

+Event venues were a blend of GLBT eateries, shops and bars/clubs, and
+popular mainstream spots other tourists frequent. About half of
+attendees are out dressed for the first time, or quite inexperienced,
+so the idea is to give them opportunities to get comfortable at very
+T-friendly establishments get their feet wet, so to speak before
+they dive into the deep end of the pool going to activities at major
+resorts and malls. There's a big sister program in place to help
+newbies along the tranny track and participants with vehicles
+volunteer to chauffeuress sisters to the various spots DLV ladies
+gather across the city.

+Four GLBT bars/clubs were used for activities such as the annual mixer
+and DLV group photo session; karaoke; and late night dancing. Twice we
+were treated to drag shows featuring local talent, about on a par with
+the shows in Toronto. Three dinners were held at small eateries
+catering to GLBT communities where the food was good, plentiful and
+economical. In a departure from most TG events, there was no set menu
+or fixed price for the dinners, you ordered whatever you wanted and
+spent as little or as much as you wished.

+In addition, a pair of TG businesses a wig and makeup shop, and a
+boutique and transformation service held open houses for DLV girls,
+complete with light refreshments, lessons and money-saving discounts.

+LA FEMME SHOW AND LIMO TOUR BIG HIGHLIGHTS

+On the mainstream side of things, a major highlight was seeing the
+fabulous La Femme show at the magnificent MGM Grand resort, followed
+by drinks and gaming fun in the opulent casino. Then, we went outside
+the MGM's main entrance and piled into a caravan of six limos for a
+tour of the Vegas strip. First stop was a liquor store for libations,
+followed by visits and photo ops at three of the biggest and best
+resorts, Caesars Palace, the Mirage and Treasure Island. Next we took
+in the seamier side of Vegas by invading the Del Mar, a motel on the
+strip where rooms rent for $30 for 2 hours and you catch XXX in-room
+flicks. Final stop was the Four Queens hotel, for obvious photo-op
+motives, in old downtown Vegas. Unfortunately the three-hour tour
+didn't leave enough time for the experienced gals to take the rookies
+on a tranny march down the Freemont Street indoor mall.

+We had VIP seats at the front of the theatre for the Frank Marino, AKA
+Joan Rivers, La Cage show at the Riviera hotel. It had been a few
+years since I'd seen the show and Marino is showing a bit of wear, but
+there were several new acts and, as always, the gowns and costumes
+alone were worth the price of admission. This was one of the evenings
+when there wasn't a DLV dinner so we went to a top rated steak house
+at the Riviera to enjoy a wonderful meal and ambience. You were also
+on your own for one other dinner as well as breakfasts and lunches.
+However, there was no shortage of excellent spots to dine; DLV
+organizers compiled a list of restaurants at major resorts where
+trannies are more than welcome.

+HIGH TEA WAS AN ELEGANT OCCASION

+Another fun mainstream event was High English Tea at the elegant Four
+Seasons, the only major Vegas strip hotel without a casino. Before the
+tea we went to the adjacent Mandalay Bay resort, home of the biggest
+casino in Vegas, for a stroll through the gaming area and drinks in a
+central bar. The day before, Timberlee and Laura joined other DLV
+girls for a mall crawl. We were on a mission, to get fashionable hats
+for tea time. We got lucky and found a hat shop in the first outlet
+mall we visited, so we resisted the temptation to shop further and
+didn't join the ladies at another mainstream mall. Unfortunately, the
+hat shop wasn't one of the stores participating in discounts for DLV
+attendees.

+There were many other activities on the DLV menu::

+One of the local Tgirls who works as a drag queen and a casino dealer,
+opened her home in one of the neighbourhoods where the real”people
+of Vegas live, for an afternoon pool party;

+A pair of DLV ladies who flew in for the week in their private planes
+took girls up for air tours of Vegas and a swing south over the Grand
+Canyon;

+The girls went on a tourist excursion to see the spectacular scenery
+at Fire Valley north of Vegas;

+One of the casino resorts held a reception with gaming instructions
+for the DLV ladies;

+A slumber party was held in a rented suite at a Vegas Residence Inn;

+A contingent of 20 Southern Belles, a TG group with chapters across
+the U.S., were at DLV and hosted a reception for the ladies;

+A good number of the girls hit the links and played off the ladies
+tees at the DLV golf tournament;

+An English pub was the setting for an SOs-only luncheon;

+A DLV dinner was held at the Palace Station resort's buffet restaurant.

+If it sounds like a hectic schedule, it was. But, taking the lead of
+ladies who have attended several DLVs, we decided to not try to do
+everything and save some activities for future DLV vacations. While
+many activities/events are repeated year-to-year, there's always new
+fun to enjoy. Organizers try to rip the envelope apart and stage new
+activities; some work, some don't.

+By not trying to do everything on the agenda, that allowed us
+time to do some other things in Vegas. For instance, Celia frequented
+the Venetian hotel with its many replicas of her favourite city, and
+all the girls in our group, except parsimonious Laura, tested the
+theory that being dressed en femme brings you extra luck at the slots
+and tables. And we squeezed in some shopping adventures away from the
+DLV schedule. Still, being so busy meant we had to save some fun, such
+as taking a gondola ride at the Venetian and seeing the art exhibit at
+the Bellagio, for future Vegas visits.

+IMPERIAL PALACE HAPPY HOUR GET TOGETHERS

+Our group stayed at the older but comfortable Imperial Palace, the most
+centrally located of the three DLV recommended hotels. There were other
+CDs and spouses staying there but it was such a big hotel, we never
+ran into them there. DLV attendees stayed at a variety of resorts,
+from bargain establishments outside the city to 5-Star hotels on the
+strip.

+DLV organizers try to avoid having all the girls at one hotel, as is
+often the case at other TG gatherings, so that a hotel doesn't just
+become a big closet. One goal of DLV, besides fun, is to help newbies
+discover they can go mainstream when they dress and act appropriate to
+the occasion. DLV's wide range of activities affords participants the
+opportunity to don everything from women's casual and sports wear to
+formal and semi-formal and even fetish outfits. One surprise was that
+Laura actually went out in women's pants for the first time ever.

+The Imperial Palace has a cozy lobby/casino bar where a daily happy
+hour is held late afternoon-early evening and it quickly became our
+group's meeting place for cocktails and chit chat before we headed out
+for that night's DLV schedule. And the Tea House restaurant at the
+Imperial Palace was excellent for several meals en femme.

+A big thank you goes to Elaine. She's in the cosmetics and fragrance
+business and generously shipped nine big boxes of goodies to Vegas so
+that all the girls got a great gift and she supplied some super door
+prizes for gatherings and awards for golfers.

+One of the best bonuses of attending DLV is we now know fun CDs in
+cities across the U.S. to get together with during future travels. In
+fact, we've already received an invite for a TV road trip in the
+southern U.S. this summer. And, we plan to play hostesses to some of
+the girls we met when they hopefully visit Toronto later this year.

I think there was some confusion here, complicated by the fact that they
did not know exactly how many people would be coming. At first, the main
floor was held for DLV and they were asking other patrons to eat at the
bar if possible. I actually took a seat at the bar, expecting the floor
to be overloaded.

When it was realized that the DLV people would fill most of the floor,
but not all of it, they began seating others on the floor. I was told by
one of our people that they would let DLV people order off the regular
menu if they insisted.

NOTE: WHEN UNSUBSCRIBING, THE FROM: LINE OF YOUR UNSUBSCRIBE MESSAGE
>>MUST<< HAVE THE SAME ADDRESS AS WHAT WE USE TO SEND TO YOU. IF IT
DOES NOT, THE UNSUBSCRIBE WILL FAIL, AND YOU MAY NOT GET A FAILURE
NOTICE. SPELLING COUNTS.

fail for this reason.

Note that this will unsubscribe you from the main DLV list only. If you
are on any secondary lists (DLVORG, DLVGOLF) you must unsubscribe from
them in addition.
