Welcome newcomers. We have several new people this week. Yes, there is
still time to get in on the fun, but don't procrastinate!

Early this coming week we will be sending out the registration confirmation
to everybody who has registered. Please look this over, and if there are
any changes, please use the url: http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/update.html
to make the changes on line.

If you have registered and do not get one of these by Wednesday, please
let us know, email: dlv@geekbabe.com and state that you have not
received your confirmation.

IF YOU DON'T GET ONE, YOUR REGISTRATION HAS NOT BEEN RECORDED PROPERLY.

Likewise, if you get two or more of these, please send both (all)
numbers in via e-mail so we can eliminate the bad one(s). I think this
has been taken care of, but ...

If you haven't registered and plan to attend, please do so. Just fill
out the form at http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/register.html and you will
be all set.

FINAL MAILINGS, SCHEDULES, DIRECTIONS, AND CONTACT INFORMATION WILL ONLY

Heads up:

21 day in advance prices (air, hotel, etc.) expire this Tuesday.

Late night gambling:

>Let's talk about where we want to go gambling at 2 AM on a Friday night
>(actually a Saturday very early morning) after a wild night of drinking
>and dancing (or maybe moderate drinking and wild dancing, depending on
>your preferences).

>Some questions that come to mind:
> -- Where?
> -- What kind (any preferences of table games versus slots)?

>I'm going to make an assumption here that it is the experience of
>gambling while dressed that people want, as opposed to the thrill of
>high-stakes hardcore gambling. (At least people tell me it's thrilling.
>Since I usually lose, I get more disgusted than thrilled, but that's
>another story.)

>Seriously, I'm guessing that we will have players in all types of price
>ranges, so we may want to consider a place that has like:
> - quarter slots
> - 2 dollar (or less!!) minimum pass line bets at craps
> - low minimum bets at roulette (the utlimate ladies game, I love it!!)
> - 5 dollar (or less) blackjack bets

>Remember, this is the weekend, so Strip casinos raise the minimum bets.
>The crowds may start to thin out around 2 AM, although it is the weekend
>so it should still be prettty crowded. It often doesn't really seem to
>get vacant until around 5 or 6 AM.

>Where should we go? Strip or downtown? Should we go to a place
>(Tropicana, Frontier, Imperial Palace, Sahara) that we have other DLV
>events at, so that people can be in familiar surroundings?

>Or, should we throw caution to the winds (not to mention a few dollars)
>and go to a really fancy place (Caesar's, Bellagio, others??) to see and
>be seen?

>Girls: please contribute your thoughts on how you might like to do this?

If I may put in my $.02 here ...

From a personal standpoint, I may or may not be going on the late-nite
gambling thing. I have much more stamina than I had last year, but I'm
still not totally up to where I was a few years ago. Getting close, but
I still want to take it easy.

I'm assuming we will have a mixture of people who have been out and about
for some time, some who are beginners, and some who will be with the group
in boymode (or in gg girlmode). I would suggest a place that we know to
be t-friendly, or at least t-oblivious, and also one where some of our
people are staying. (Somebody who is shy about using a public restroom
can borrow one in the room of somebody staying there, etc.)

Obvious choices would then be Sahara and/or Imperial Palace.

Myself, I usually play VP, sometimes slots (but Monopoly is so much fun,
I'd hate to blow the game) and BJ occasionally, but they go too damn
fast for me to stay in many games. Roulette is good for people-watching
and sucking up comp drinks, but I seldom play it.

Everyplace I know has quarter slots and VP. IP has (had) full-pay .25 VP
where Sahara does (did) not. Sahara usually (always?) has $1 BJ, but the
dealer they had last year was going at warp speed and the $1 tables were
almost always full. This one dealer was anticipating player hit/stand and
was almost playing for the player, all at warp factor 999e+99.

Going to a hoity-toity place might be a trip. This might be better after
the limo tour on Sunday, if we want some attention, much better glitz
factor. However, most people in the casino will be minding their own
businss. (And I'm sure it wouldn't interest, anybody, outside of a small
circle of friends. :)

I should probably report that at the Rocky Horror convention last
October, a group of people (all over 21) were asked by security to not
pass thru the casino in costume. This was at Mandalay Bay. The guard
said it was distracting to the players. (Yeah, when they're gawking at
the eyecandy, they ain't losing bux. :) Oh well, I just thought I would
mention that incident.

DLV roster (need feedback on this):

>Question? Is there any way we can get a list of who all is attending?
>It would be nice to know who to expect and see
>if you know anyone.

Hmmmm .... We have never before published such a thing as a roster.
I'm VERY uneasy publishing anything that would give any personally
identifying information on anybody, such as e-mail addresses and the
like. Plus, we assure everybody that we will be discreet.

Hmmm .... We need some feedback on this, gang. In some ways, I don't
see how giving a list of first names, arrival dates, and where people
are from, would hurt, but I don't wanna even think of this before
getting some discussion and feedback.

Comments, gang? Concerns? Objections?

Mailings:

>>The time has come, I believe, to go to a twice-per-week mailing. We'll
>>do this Wednesday and Sunday, skipping the Wednesday one if material

>>Roommate clearing house:
>>Latest schedule:

>Would it be possible, maybe, to skip all of the bric-a-brac at the end
>of the Wednesday newsletter? I don't feel it's necessary to say all
>that over and over.

Ok, What let's do is this. If there are no changes to most of the
boilerplate items, we'll omit them from the mid-week mailing. I do
want to keep the administrivia one, kind of a necessary evil for
identification and such. Also, the headcount item is small and many
people are interested in it, so I think we should keep it too.

That should cut down the volume of the mid-week mailing quite a bit.

Mailbag:

> Thanks for your reply. Yes, first time out will be nerve-wracking but I
> will be alright. My biggest concern is not embarrassing the group i.e.
> a poor makeup job etc.

If you're new to makeup, ask the advice and opinions of the others at one
of the early gatherings, such as those at one of the bars the first few
evenings. I know we've done some touch-up jobs at Goodtimes.

> I am sure no matter how bad I look no one would
> say anything, LOL, so I was wondering if there is, well, let's just call
> it a group dressing area before everyone goes out? A place where I might
> have someone check me over and make any adjustments they feel fit to?

There is no real communal area, but I'm sure we can give you some honest
critiquing and a touch up if necessary. I know we've had a couple times
where we kinda did a collective makeover session in somebody's hotel
room when she wanted some help.

> With daylight savings time upon us I will have to wait until dark
> otherwise and then rely on my own resources which could prove
> disastrous! This is my main interest in the Big Sister program, just
> basically to look presentable in the makeup area.

I would then seek out and ask the advice of some of the group.

You might also review one of the better books on makeup technique, such
as "Making Faces". Any Barnes&Noble/Borders will have this.

> Thanks for your offer to meet beforehand but I am sure you will have
> plenty to do and we can certainly chat later. Plus, if all else fails
> and I don't feel comfortable in my appearance I will definitely come in
> drab to meet you and everyone.

What you might consider is coming in boymode to the very first
activities, such as the dinner on Wednesday followed by the bar. Get to
know some of the people and ask some opinions on what will and will not
work for you. Then plan your big coming out for one of the next
evenings.

> Talk to you later and thanks again.....

You're very welcome.

Misc comments:

> 1. One-on-one makeup instruction and critique.

>Quick sidenote about critique. Don't ask someone for it unless you
>really want to hear what they think and are secure enough to deal with
>it.

Actually, in this context, I was referring to a paid consultation,
where an honest feedback session is desired.

>I've seen many situations erupt in support groups over this very
>issue, and there's no need for it. Remember that when you ask for a
>critique, what you're usually going to get is what a person thinks that
>you could improve on...they're not going to tell you that you're
>gorgeous.

One of the hardest things to do is to give an honest opinion on
somebody's looks. In many cases it's unknown whether they are wanting
reassurance of the way they present, or if they are genuinely interested
in feedback that will help with their growth and inprovement.

>If you want someone to tell you that you're gorgeous, I will
>be happy to do that for you, for a slight service charge. It's best to
>remember why you present yourself the way you do...it's to make yourself
>happy, so be your own critic. Believe me, no one will be harder on you
>than you will. Makeovers, on the other hand, are a chance to experiment
>with new looks, and you may find something that you like...just remember
>what is important...that YOU like it.

Kinda hard to pass when naked, eh? :)

>> As for Galiano, that stuff seems to be the legendary drink of DLV.

Because people keep tricking me into drinking (more) of it. :)

Ok, ladies, there you have an option for makeovers and such. Checking
their website, a 1/2 hour consultation and makeup instruction session
would be $49 less 10% (u do the math :).
