Subject: dlv99 Movin right along ...

People are reporting that they are getting good prices on airfare from
most everywhere. Prices seem to be consistently in the $200-ish range
from most locations east of the Rockies. Southwest Airlines has a
promotional $99-each-way fare, and this DOES cover Las Vegas during the
DLV dates if booked in January.
This is about as low as the fares will get, gang. Don't procrastinate!
Remember, you wanna get that $200 fare, not the $1200 fare. :)
I'm hearing the same about room rates, that they are quite reasonable.
Palace Station (just off Strip) appears to still be bottom-dollar of
all the decent Strip or Near-Strip places, followed by Sahara, Stardust
(motor inn rooms), Imperial Palace, and the other Station (Texas,
Sunset, Boulder) properties. Lady Luck, Fitzgerald's, and El Cortez
seem to be the lowest of the major downtown hotels. (Fitzgerald's has a
very good AYCE fillet mignon buffet, btw.)

There were a few activity suggestions and such that came in after
the 1998 event. If these are still of interest to you, can those who
sent them in please "reconfirm" and send in a brief note to this
list.

We've had interest in a side trip to Rhyolite, NV, and a volunteer
with a vehicle who is willing to drive.
For those who don't know what Rhyolite is, it was in the early 1900's
a town of several thousand, but as of now the population is ZERO,
except for one part-time caretaker type who doesn't actually live
there. Yes, it's a true "ghost" town.
For those who might expect something like Calico, or the various
so-called-restored-ghost-towns in northern AZ, with the staged
gunfights, honky-tonk piano in the saloon, souvenir and concession
stands, nope, there is none of that there.
(Well, I guess I lied, when I was there the caretaker would sell you
a soda out of a tub of ice. :)
What's there is the ruins of several buildings, and the ruts between
the weeds that mark the grid of once-active streets.
IIRC, it's an hour or so north of Las Vegas on route 95.
Keep this one in mind when we take headcounts of who is interested in
what in a couple months.
. . . . .
The trip to Hoover Dam will be repeated this year. This will most
likely occur in the afternoon on one of the weekend days. Details
will be announced as the time gets closer.

We are again going to put together a list of recommended clubs,
businesses, etc., in Las Vegas that will welcome the business of our
people, and if anybody has any recommendations, please send them in,
especially if they are new or not well known in our community.

Makeovers:
This seems to be a hot topic right now. I've asked some of the local
ladies for some recommendations and I'll pass the word on to this
list. I do know there are a couple of independents who do these,
plus there is Glamour Shots, which will do a makeover in conjunction
with a photo shoot. Glamour Shots is known to be t-friendly.

Now is the time to start thinking of things that we want to do. You
may think that there will be lots of time, but believe me, in Vegas,
time FLIES!!!
We want to allow plenty of "slack time", especially before any dress-up
events, like four hours. Last year things got a bit tight a couple
times.
If you have ideas of something you think the group would enjoy doing,
please send them in to this list as soon as possible. Now is the time
to get things like that organized.
There are a few things that will have to be planned in advance.
Remember, not everybody has to do everything, and anybody is free to
invite others on their own alternatives, etc.
Here are the items that will be interest to many of us:
These first few are fixed in schedule.
1. Get-together Friday evening (T-friendly club).
2. Kenny Kerr show Saturday night, Plaza Hotel.
3. Frank Marino show Sunday evening, Riviera.
Here is a list of some optional activities that many will want to
partake:
1. Shopping excursions. There are two mainline malls in Las Vegas,
two outlet malls on the south side of town, and a recently-opened
outlet mall at Stateline, about 1/2 hour away. There are countless
specialty shops.
2. Walking/driving tour of the Strip, for those who have not been
to Las Vegas, or those who just want to come along. We have an
excellent tourguide at our disposal for this.
3. Tour of Hoover Dam. Last year we had an excellent personal
guided tour. This will be repeated this year.
4. Non-drag/fi production show. I can think of a number of these that
the people in our group will enjoy. Some can be pricey, though.
Does anybody have anything that they *really* want to see?
5. Liberace Museum. The group went there in 1997. This is part of our
culture. :)
6. Driving tour of Lake Mead, Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, and
other scenic areas in the LV vicinity.

For those returning from DLV 1998:
Please send me a note stating which free gift you want, with the
appropriate information.
Please choose 1 or 2.
1. Diva Las Vegas 1998 t-shirt. Silkscreen design may be previewed
at http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/dlvshirt.gif Fabric is light blue.
Please specify adult size M -- XXL.
(Trivia contest: First person to identify the model used for the
drawing gets a drink at Keys. :)
Update: No, it is not Vanna White. No, it is not Shania Twain. No, it
is not Tula, and no, it is certainly not me. :) I'll give the same
semi-hint here that I gave on channel the other night: The name the
person goes by will be immediately recognized by many of you.
2. Necklace with pendant made from a commemorative silver (with gold
trim and chain) gaming token from various casinos. Please choose one
of the following casinos (FCFS) and please give second choice:
New York New York (Babe Ruth on reverse)

Stardust (Enter The Night on reverse)

Travel Agent:
This year we have a travel agent who is available to help you with your
air and other arrangements. She has worked with the T* community and
her agency is very T-friendly. Please feel free to phone or e-mail
her with your travel requests and questions. I've filled her in on
what the event is and what you will be looking for, such as low-cost
round-trip airfare and possibly air-hotel deals.
Her name is Jade Nebiker, and her agency is Dream Catcher Travel.

1. Your name
2. Means of contact, e-mail address or voice phone.
3. Important information about yourself, especially about any possibly
annoying habits you have, such as smoking, snoring, midnight CNN
addict, etc.
We will post this to the list, and potential roommates can contact each
other to make specific arrangements.

faith private agreement only between those directly involved, and that
I or any of the others cannot be responsible if there are any problems.

Airport pickup:
I'm willing to pick up anybody who is attending at the airport (or
train/bus station). I'll need to know your airline, flight number, and
arrival time. I'll be arriving in LV Friday morning, so let me know if
you want a ride from the airport and I'll adjust my schedule to pick
you up.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Door Prizes:
As we did last year, we're soliciting donations of small items to be
given to the lucky (??) winners of a drawing. These can be useful in
nature, or humorous. Last year we had such things as an Epilady, a
home electrolysis unit, and some jewelry items.
We've had a couple responses on this already, so this may be a bit
more of a big deal this year.
If you wish to donate a prize, please write to dlv99@geekbabe.com
and describe your donation, and state if you want your donation to
be in your name or anonymous.
