Only 73 days left, gang!

[somewhat edited for brevity ...]
>I have gone out dressed on some of my previous trips to LV, and I can
>report the following:
>1). Always travel by car and use valet parking whenever available.
>Avoid walking alone on the street at night, unless you like drunken
>jerks making fun of you.
I tend to agree, and for gg's (and gb's) as well. :)
Seriously, the main Strip area is actually one of the safest places
24x7 in the USA; well lit, well traveled, well patroled. Very few
crimes against persons (muggings, purse snatches, etc.) occur on the
Strip south of Sahara and in the Fremont St. area downtown. Off strip,
it's like any other urban area. And on the Strip just south of
downtown, you could not pay me enough to walk alone after midnight!
>2). The Gypsy club near the Hard Rock is a fun place.
I've heard that, though I've never been. Somebody (Andrea?) went there
last year. There are a couple others right in that area, plus a
t-friendly restaurant and a GLBT bookstore.
>3). The Red Rooster, a private club way out on edge of northern LV, is
>fun and very accepting. Of course, it also costs $40 per night to get
>in (no price break for TVs) and you usually have to pick up your
>"invitation" ahead of time. But, I really like the owners and staff,
>who are very friendly and nice people.
$40 per nite?????!!! :)
>4). I've never had any trouble going in and out of Caesar's while
>dressed during day or night, except for a lot of stares from dealers at
>3 AM as I stumble towards the elevators.
>5). Treasure Island, in spite of its reputation as a family place, has
>never given me any trouble coming or going either, and I've gone in and
>out many times. I've also had T people visit on a few occasions.
>Coming back in at 3 AM, everything is
>deserted, but (like all main hotels) you do have to show your room key
>to the security guard at the elevators. Never a bit of trouble from
>them.
This seems to be of some concern. In actuality, the guards don't care,
as long as you are a paying guest and don't trash the place.
Thanks, this is really the first feedback we've received about Caesars
and TI.

>contact once we arrive
The easiest way is to simply show up at the welcome get-together on
Friday evening. The exact location (with detailed directions on how to
get there) will be sent out in early May. You can show up as either
brother or sister. (If you need a ride, several of the people will have
cars, and it will be easy to get you a ride.)
Since I'm the registrar by default, you can contact me if you come in
early or if you have any questions. I'll be carrying both a pager and a
cell phone, and I'll post the numbers for both the week before DLV
begins.
Alternatively, if you want me to contact you, tell me where you're
staying, the phone number (if a major hotel, I already have it), when
to phone, and who to ask for.
If you miss the welcome get-together (as a few did last year), phone or
page as soon as possible, and we'll help you catch up with the group.

Great! Sounds like you had a good time. Most everybody reports the same,
no hassles from tourists or management, downtown, strip, and off-strip.

Restroom update:
My attorney is drawing a blank on this (supposed) law, with a quick
query to those who practice in Nevada, and a search of statutes and
case law. His next step will be to contact the ACLU and see if they
know anything. From my last e-mail with him ...
>>OBTW, any news on the LV law?
>Nothing other than the obvious: disorderly conduct, disturbing the
>peace, and/or trespassing. All are highly situational and subjective
>at the time the cops are there.
>Found a number for the Nevada affiliate of the ACLU but haven't made
>contact yet.
One of our LV people cited a case where someone was hassled by the
police for allegedly SPYING on ladies in the ladies room, but was not
arrested or detained on any ordinance we have in question here.
I know I asked this last year, but if anybody (especially those in
Nevada) can quote chapter and verse of this supposed law, please do so.

Travel Agent:
This year we have a travel agent who is available to help you with your
air and other arrangements. She has worked with the T* community and
her agency is very T-friendly. Please feel free to phone or e-mail
her with your travel requests and questions. I've filled her in on
what the event is and what you will be looking for, such as low-cost
round-trip airfare and possibly air-hotel deals.
Her name is Jade Nebiker, and her agency is Dream Catcher Travel.

Door Prizes:
As we did last year, we're soliciting donations of small items to be
given to the lucky (??) winners of a drawing. These can be useful in
nature, or humorous. Last year we had such things as an Epilady, a
home electrolysis unit, and some jewelry items.
We've had a couple responses on this already, so this may be a bit
more of a big deal this year.
If you wish to donate a prize, please write to dlv99@geekbabe.com
and describe your donation, and state if you want your donation to
be in your name or anonymous.
