Mid and Late 1980-s
This period has to be my favorite as far as style and glamour. As
we saw the return to satin in the early 1980-s, we saw ornamentation
in forms of lots of ruffles, lace, plenty of beading, sequins, and
rinestones.
Big Sleeves
One thing about the late 1980-s gowns was the poufy sleeves. You
don't see them anymore today, and you didn't in the 1970-s either.
I like them!
Pretty In Pink
While the 1960-s and 1970-s were all white-white-white, in the
1980-s you started seeing some colors. Most popular were off-white's
known as Candlelight, Eggshell, Candleglow, and light to medium
pink's as you can see above. Recognize the models in the left
and right pictures. Look close!
Close Fitting
Gone is the empire waist of the 1970-s, which left the figure to
your imagination. 1980-s gowns were very snug fitting, which
would emphasize the curves.
The Bust Is Back
1980-s gowns were also cut specially to follow the curves of the
bustline and bodice. This would show off the figure and is especially
nice to look at. Some did this with exagerated princess seams,
others, like the one on the right, did without this, draping and
tacking the fabric on the underbust.
