Note: This term is well-documented on the web and in clinical literature. This article is intended to provide only a brief introduction to the topic.

Gynecomastia is the physical development of the female breast. The term is usually used in the context of unexpected breast development in the human male.

Gynecomastia has many possible causes, from hormone imbalances to the effects of prescription drugs, over the counter drugs, herbal supplements, and illegal drugs.

Some clinicians will refer to the expected and desired breast development in the Male To Female Transsexual, brought about by hormone therapy, as gynecomastia. Others refrain from using the term in this particular context.
