Charles Genevieve Louis Auguste Andre Timothee d'Eon de Beaumont, better known as simply Chevalier d'Eon, was a French historical aristocrat of the Order of Saint Louis, who was widely known for appearing in public as a woman.
The Chevalier was an accomplished scholar, solder, swordfighter, spy, and diplomat.
The term Eonism, infrequently used today, referred to what we would call transvestism or crossdressing. The Beaumont Society, a British TG support group, was named after the Chevalier.
