Welcome Newcomers:

Welcome to everybody who recently joined this list. People are coming from
far and wide. Since last month we've added people from Germany and Spain
as well as several from the US and Canada.

Registrations have already started coming in. (And we haven't even
officially "opened" registration yet). If this is any indication, our
turnout should be very good in May.

It will be about a month before activity picks up here, but this message
gives some summary info and the schedule as it now stands. Be sure to
look at the back mailings at the URL below.

Happy Holidays:

This will be the last of the monthly summaries. We will begin the
regular mailings to this list right after the first of the year.

We will be winding down the DLV organizational list over the next
week or so, take a break until after the holidays, and continue the
discussion and planning on the main DLV mailing list (this list) after
the first of the year.

As most of you know, a lot of the initial planning is out of the way,
and the schedule is taking shape. Things are certainly not final, and we
can fill in the holes and smooth out the rough spots right after we get
going after the new year.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Events calendars:

We've managed to get on several T* events calendars already, and they have
been giving us a lot of website traffic.

If you happen to see either a web-based or hardcopy events calendar that
does not include us, please drop the keeper of the calendar a brief note
about us, giving dlv@geekbabe.com as the contact e-mail address and the
url http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/ as the web page. (You might mention that
most other events calendar already have this posted. :)

Online registration:

(Note: If you have already registered for DLV 2001, either by e-mail or
on the web, your registration has already been recorded.)

We're going to try an online web registration screen this year, as an
option in addition to the normal e-mail registration. I would be very
interested in having your feedback on this, as well as comments on
whether you like the web form method or the e-mail method.

It seems to me the online form is easier than the e-mail method, but I
would like to hear what you think.

The form is now on line at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/register.html

It's live now, so if anybody does want to put a registration in advance,
go ahead.

DLV activity notes:

There have been a few recent additions to the DLV schedule, including:

Vicki will be coordinating a matinee movie outing on Friday afternoon.
She wants to limit this to a small group, so we'll take names of those
who want to go as the date approaches. If there's a huge demand, we
can have more than one group go to more than one film.

I'll be coordinating a "Shopping and Hopping" Strip tour on Saturday
afternoon, concentrating on a few of the newer and larger properties
that have huge shopping areas, such as Paris and the new Aladdin.

Tina will be coordinating a trip to the Folies Bergere (hope I spelled
that right) show at the Tropicana on Sunday evening, followed by a
private limousine tour of the Strip and downtown areas.

We've scheduled a side trip to Rhyolite for Monday afternoon. This is
a real "ghost town", not a cheesy mock-up. We'll plan on taking one or
more vanloads of people.

On Thursday evening, we will have a dinner and evening shopping trip,
hitting a number of specialty shops that are popular with our group.

Still no word on the new venue for Kenny Kerr, but they tell me (the
ubiquitous "they") that Kenny is in negotiation with two properties for
a new show that will begin shortly after the first of the year. Stay
tuned for details. We've tentatively got this on the slate for Saturday
evening.

E-group:

>>>I host a relatively new egroup for transgendered folks in the Las Vegas
>>>area. I set it up hoping that I could bring together folks in the area
>>>and let them know about where to go, etc here in Las Vegas. I just
-----8<-----

>Annie, we don't need this. It's all porn shots and ad's for professional
>escorts, more like hookers. I suggest you pull our ad's and links from
>this one. This is not what we want to be identified with.

I'd like to hold off on pulling anything, at least for a while. This is
sending traffic (a few hits per day) to the DLV website, and this is one
thing we certainly want.

I just went back and took a close look at it. I admit I haven't really
looked at it for the past couple weeks or so. There has not been much
activity lately, the last real active thread being the Halloween one.
(This is being written November 15.)

There was one "where to go and what to do" query, and I replied with the
link to the lvthings.html page. There was already a response recommending
the Las Vagas Lounge and Keys.

Yes, I agree there are some rather tacky messages and photos, but ...

The first few messages give the impression the group is to be social and
support, and not sexual in nature. There's a message on Tri-Ess and one
about us. The only two links (as of the 15th.) are for our main page and
for our LV T* Guide.

Looking this over as a whole, I don't possibly see how anybody can get
the wrong impression of DLV from this.

If Brandi is listening in, perhaps she would like to comment further.

Late note: I took another look at it as I was proofreading this (evening
of November 30) and I did see one new message that I would classify as a
"come-on", but I don't see how this could possibly reflect on DLV.

Hotel:

>Have you selected a host hotel for 2001 yet? I'd like to get my
>reservations in while the rates are low.

There's been talk of either an "official" or "strongly suggested" hotel
but a decision probably will not be made until after the holidays.

If this happens, and unless something unknown happens to pop up in Las
Vegas, the designated hotel will most likely be either the Imperial
Palace or the Sahara. Both are known to be t-friendly. We will most
likely have people staying at the IP whether or not we designate it
as the official hotel.

(Late note: Two of the registrations we have received have stated
they will be staying at the IP.)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Makeovers:

>Dear Babe, do you know what day the mary Kay makeovers will be . As Bill
>Bixby might say you wouldn't like me without my makeup. thanks

Date and time have not been set. It is a "go", since the Mary Kay people
said they would like to do it again this coming May.

It will most likely be on an afternoon toward the beginning of DLV. Pure
speculation says Friday would work the best, but the exact date will not
be set until we learn the schedule of the MK people for sure.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Football:

>> * Monday Night Football - cheerleaders

>Obviously none of you are football fans. They don't have football in
>may, especially Mondays.

LOL! I'm surprised I didn't catch that. Good eye! :)

Actually, I am somewhat of a football fan, although I don't know if I wanna
admit it after Oklahoma and K State. <semi grin>

(Hey, if guys can wear dresses, girls can watch football, right?)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
DLV air/hotel deal:

As we've mentioned before, Mindy (one of our DLV 2000 people) is now with
a LV travel agency, and has offered her services to the people attending
DLV 2001.

I asked her for an example quote, which was roundtrip air, non-redeye,
from Omaha to Las Vegas, arriving May 1, departing May 8, with 7 nites
at the Sahara, single occupancy.

She came back with a price of $699, with travel on America West.

>>>i have the
>>>$699 deal for diva done..

>>Can you elaborate a bit as to what this deal is, what it gets, what the
>>conditions are, etc.

>Ok annie, the package includes air/hotel/taxes/airport transfers. only
>conditions are on cancels..room canceled more then 14 days in advance
>incures a $50 admin fee. less then 14 days 1 nights charges or $50
>whichever is more.. airline cannot be refunded and $75 change fee.
>room can be shared with one other person for no added charge third and
>4th persons in a room are at $15 per night per person.

If this may seem a bit on the high side of what you are used to paying
for DLV, keep in mind that I had her price this for what I would do if
I don't attend N+I for the company this year, and this would be arriving
one day in advance and departing one day after the finish of DLV.

You'll have to contact them with your particular departure city and
dates for a correct quote.

To convert these into numbers that can be compared, if I punch the
flights into America West's website, the current fare is $310 including
taxes and nuisance fees. This effectively leaves the hotel portion at
$398 for 7 nites, or $55 per. This is averaged weekday/weekend.

As we've discussed before, air fare typically takes a dip right after
the first of the year, and presumably their rates will reflect this if
it does indeed happen again in January.

Anyway, their web address is: http://www.lvfantasytours.com/ if you
want them to get you a quote.

Thanks, Mindy. :)

More events listings:

>I'm still hanging in there counting down the days till DLV2001.

Me too. :)

>First off I found a site you may want to list DLV on. It's at -
>http://www.genderevents.com/. I didn't go ahead and list us, thought
>it would be better if you decided. Btw, what is DLV policy about
>listing the event?

Since we don't have a formal organization, we don't really have a formal
policy, but I would say the policy would be to spread the word far and
wide.

I'll look at that site and submit a listing, but if you want to go
ahead in addition, please do so. Please use the URL:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/ as the contact web address and the e-mail
address of dlv@geekbabe.com as the contact e-mail address.

>Well, that's it for now. (like I need to give you more things to do!)
>Remember - each day that passes is one day closer to May 2nd.

And don't forget to live for today. You don't have to wait until DLV
to be yourself. :)
