Airfare - Heads up:

The $99 each way special from Southwest Airlines, as well as similar
specials from many of the other major carriers will expire this Tuesday,
Jan 16.

The TA's who work in the same building I do expect this to be the LAST
bottom-dollar air fare deal between now and May.

Tripshark:

Mark from Tripshark (Las Vegas information site, see URL below) wrote in to
say thanks for driving traffic to his site thru the link on our page. Yes,
he's aware of who we are and what we are.

His site is an excellent collection of Las Vegas news and information. It's
quite a bit different from the other LV info sites, in that it gives a
fresh view to things. It doesn't simply repeat what's in _Whats_On_ as
several sites do. The URL is:

http://www.tripshark.com/

Mark is now on our list for informational purposes. Mark, if you have
anything of interest to our people, please feel free to chime in.

Ok, we'll get you on the DLV mailing list, which will give you all the
information of the upcoming affair.

>I would also like
>to know if you think I could feel confortable and fit in at the weekend

We've had a number of people who have never been out before, including
some from the LV area. Almost all those who have never been out before
report a highly positive experience.

You will be among those who have been in the same position you are now,
and can offer you suggestions and support. Since you're local to Las
Vegas, and a number of the others will be too, you can meet your local
sisters who you can continue to see throughout the year.

If you're a bit nervous going out in girlmode, it's perfectly ok to
attend some or all our functions in either mode. If this is easier on
you, you might consider something like doing the pre-DLV gathering in
boymode, and then if you're comfortable, coming the next evening in
girlmode. That would give you the opportunity to get to know some of
the others and hear some first-hand recounting of their coming-out.

It's whatever you're comfortable with.

Well, if you look on the schedule, we do have a few things that might
qualify as "touristy" such as the Dam Tour and the Rhyolite trip.

Well, uh .... Hmmmm .... I dunno ...

I would say if you don't have bright polish, very few are gonna notice,
and most of those who do won't care. For our tour, our group will be
together and everybody with the group will be aware of who we are.

Before I started playing guitar again one of my cow-orkers (who knows)
used to give me a mild amount of kidding for having nails slightly
longer than is the custom, but most didn't notice or if they did they
didn't say anything.

If you're really paranoid, I guess you could keep your hands in your
pockets. :)

Gloves? Bandages?

Ideas for DLV:

>I have a idea for DLV ... {somewhat edited}

>by those who want to do this, and they can be grouped together to rent a

Actually, we have something like this already on the schedule. On
Thursday afternoon and evening we have a group shopping tour planned. I
envision we'll hit the various specialty stores of interest before
dinner, then eat, then go to someplace like Belz or Boulevard Mall after
dinner. Then we'll finish the evening off at Keys, a piano lounge on
Sahara.

We will have at least one van, and several others have volunteered to
drive as well.

>Hopefully those who do go do buy things to give these stores some
>income. This includes all t-friendly businesses, and all types of
>thrift stores in the Las Vegas area.

Two comments here. First of all, just about any business in Las Vegas is
t-friendly. Why? Our $$$ is just as green as anybody else's. They (the
shop owners, the salespeople) want you to find something you like, so
you will spend $$$, and they want you to be satisfied so you will return
and spend more $$$ and send your friends. Yes, by the nature of who we
are, some of the shops will be of more interest, and we'll concentrate
on those Thursday afternoon.

On thrift shops, we've discussed touring the thrift shops before and
there was not that much interest. In fact, in 1999, one couple wanted to
visit one shop (the Attic, the one that appeared in the American Express
commercials) but not to shop, to pose on the checkerboard sidewalk
outside the place. :)

See the url: http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv99/attic/

>critique or help AND IS OPEN TO it, then they should attend.

Something like this can happen iff there is a demand and somebody takes
the initiative to make it happen. For this year, evenings are solid, but
there are a number of first/second track afternoon slots still wide
open.

>It should NOT be a place to make fun of or knock someone down type
>activity...which unfortunately is a possiblity. This can become a
>confidence builder in developing 'passing' techniques for those are shy
>or not confident in themselves, which may result in some feeling

>location during DLV.

Most everybody at DLV will be caring and supportive. We simply do not
attract the types who build themselves up by putting others down. All
the criticism I've heard has been intended to be constructive.

>This 'practice' location can also become a 'costume party' as someone

>buy....as in a pizza or wine and cheese or pupus(hors-de-ourves)(sp?) -

>about the size and 'rowdy-ness' of the group.

For DLV 2001 as a major event, it looks like all the evenings are booked
so far, and something like this would certainly be an evening affair.

Something like this will also take quite a bit of planning and
coordination. Let's put this one on the plate as a discussion item for
possibilities for DLV 2002.

>The coaching part can be started before DLV, as in matching the people.
>They can then communicate on their own via snail mail, email, voice
>mail, phone. So that by the time DLV arrives, a working friendship has
>already begun.

>For me, I will always be open to coaching, finding new fashions or
>accessories that look good on me, or what fantasy I can see (or never
>see) myself in, or finding items that I would be fearful of buying.
>This may also be going into areas of what some organizations like triess
>already does.

>If so, then just let this idea go... I don't want to repeat anything
>that is already being done. I have no organization that I know in my
>area so I am a bit un-educated about it.

>So .... any thoughts, comments?
