Only 44 days left, gang!

Just 6 weeks away:

Yes, we're getting close. Needless to say, it's time for everybody to
finalize their travel plans, reservations, etc.

If you've just joined this list, there is still plenty of time, but
don't procrastinate. Get your air/train/bus tickets as soon as you can
and make arrangements for a place to stay. This year we are recommending
the Imperial Palace and the Sahara. See the back mailings (URL below)
for all kinds of hotel information.

One mailing list note ... Some of you who were receiving mail in the
ibm.net domain (and did not send in a change of address) may have missed
a few mailings. All should be corrected now, addresses have been adjusted.
You can check on the back mailings at the URL below.

Folies Bergere reservations:

Tina writes:

>Folies Bergere Reservation Window Is Now Open

On behalf of the group, a big hug and Thank You to Tina for coordinating
this event. This show, and the following limo tour of the Strip, will
be a night to remember for all who attend. Don't get left out of this
one, gang. :)

Mode of dress:

>> >most of my outerwear is coctail dresses and evening gowns

Uh, yeah, and so's a blast furnace! :) <vbfg> :) (Ok, I'll shut up.)

>You would be surprised how few ladies wear dresses or skirts during the

Golf again:

>How much is the cost for the golf?

Don't know for sure. It depends highly on what course. Golfers (I hate to
sound like a stuck CD on this, but ...) have you made any definite plans?

>How soon do you have to reserve in advance?

IIRC, last year the headcount for the golf outing was done in April.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Checklist:

>With all the talk on what to wear, is there any kind of a check-list
>or list of things to bring, so that I won't forget anything that's
>absolutely necessary?

I'm sure if I (or anybody) wrote a check list, things would be missing,
but I'll give a few suggestions of things not to forget, and anybody
else, please chime in if you can think of others.

First of all, be sure to bring things (outerwear, underwear, shoes,
etc.) that are comfortable. Also be sure that those cute new shoes you
just got are indeed comfortable for long walk. :)

Bring a purse or fanny-pack of an adequate size and an appropriate
style. This may sound silly, but several people have told me they do
not (or did not) have a good everyday purse.

Look over the activity schedule below. Plan an outfit for each event you
want to attend. Don't forget everyday (boymode or girlmode) items for
slack time, between events, etc.

Extra pantyhose (yes, you will screw up at least one pair :), extra
shoes, just in case, extra outerware items in case you get a free
cold bath at Keys, etc.

Sewing and "emergency" kit of buttons, safety pins, etc.

Don't forget sunscreen in case you want to go golfing, lie out by the
pool, etc.

Small umbrella. It doesn't rain that often, but when it does, it pours!

Don't forget jewelry, accessories, etc. Often overlooked.

Any other suggestions, ladies (gentlemen)?

>Also, do you know for sure how many bags you can now bring on
>the plane?

Best to check with the particular airline you're flying on. For those I
regularly fly on (TWA, America West, and {gag} Untied) they claim you
can travel with 3, either 2 checked and 1 carryon, or 1 checked and 2
carryon. I regularly cheat and check 2 and carry on 2 and have never
been confronted. (I was once confronted by a very snitty gate agent who
said my one carryon was too large, even though I demonstrated it would
fit in the sizing thingy, but that's another story.)

Southwest used to let you check 3 bags, I dunno if they still do. I've
been told Midwest Express (my favorite airline to fly) once allowed 3
checked bags but now allows 2.

Of course, any airline will allow extra baggage if you fork over $$$$.

Air tour, etc.:

>First, one more time, you have my most dynamic and heartfelt thankyou
>for your efforts on this newsletter. Really Spcial!

You're very welcome. It's feedback like this that shows we're doing
something right. :)

>Second: Re the Air tour - The Grand Canyon! Wow, never expected that
>opportunity! I am very ready, and so hope that can be arranged!

That's up to the demand and the pilot(s). If others out there want to
see something like this happen, keep those cards and letters coming.

Remember, this is a vacation, not a convention, so such "touristy"
things are intended. :)

>...over 60 of us? Wow!

Yes, that's what the numbers are converging on. Again, we will probably
never get everybody in one place at the same time, but this will be our
best-attended DLV ever. We'll probably see the greatest concentration
of our people at the Friday welcome celebration, the Saturday show, and
the Sunday show.

Seems like only yesterday (1997) when we could take the whole DLV group
in two cars with seats left over. :)

between the cooperating parties only. DLV organizers and volunteers are
