Winding things down:

Again, lots of good feedback came in over the past few days.

Thanks to everybody who has provided feedback and participated in the post-
DLV discussions. We had some great summaries of the big event, and quite a
bit of interesting discussion. It's now time to do any final summarizing
and put this list to sleep so to say.

We'll keep this list open for another week or so, and then direct our
energy to the DLVORG list (see note below) for analysis and planning of
next year's event.

We'll keep everybody on the mailing list and we'll be doing a monthly
summary and update to keep everybody posted on what's happening for
DLV 2002.

Again, I want to thank everybody for their part in making DLV 2001 what
it was. I'm looking forward to seeing everybody again in May of 2002.

DLV organizational list:

Starting in a week or so will be the Diva Las Vegas 2002 organizational
mailing list. This will be going to those who have an interest in
planning and coordinating next year's event.

This is by no means a closed or exclusive list. If you want to help plan
DLV 2002, please subscribe. Even if you just want to lurk and get an
idea of what's going on, you're welcome to join.

The DLVORG list will come out weekly as needed over the summer and fall
months. We'll wind it down around the end of November to allow everybody
to concentrate on the holidays.

To subscribe to the DLVORG list, do one of the following:

1. Send e-mail to: dlvorg@geekbabe.com with the word SUBSCRIBE (case does
not matter) either in the Subject: field or the first line of the message.

2. Reply to this message (just hit or click REPLY) and say you would like
to be on the DLVORG list.

Photo feedback:

>Annie, those are excellent pictures! Are those the ones you took or
>are there others in there too? In any case, they are great.

Thank you. We do have an impressive collection. Yes, some of those are
mine (and as of this writing, Sunday morning, I still have a few rolls
yet to do) but many are those sent in by others.

So far I have photo credits by the following: Aiko, Cat, Rhianna,
Monique, Densie/Tony, Jackie, Michelle, and Tina. If I've left anybody
off this list, please let me know.

Most of mine begin with "d01" (except for a few group and RHPS ones) and
most of Tina's begin with "IM0". Some of the others had colliding names
or non-Netscape-friendly names, and they were mass-renamed by the page
generator.

Thanks again to everybody who took these and sent them in. I'll have
the first of the final DLV 2001 pages ready by the middle of the week.
(Update: First of the public pages are now on line.)

Votes, not vetoes:

>>We now have our call for veto of any of the photos. Notes are below.

>Hey, all this talk about what pictures to NOT use, why don't we call
>for VOTES on which pictures are the best of the best for Diva 2001?

>My vote for first place goes to page2/img122.jpg.html even though
>I don't recognize the place or the girl. I assume it's one of our
>girls.

>Second place goes to page11/d01179a.jpg.html or d01179b.html even
>though I only recognize one of the girls there.

>My third place is page5/d01032.jpg.html even though I don't really
>recognize either of the girls.

One of the volunteers has already commented on img122 on page 2. I
agree it is a very good shot.

Yes, if anybody wants to nominate any photos for Best Of DLV, Best
Of Class, whatever, please let you choices be known.

My votes:

Personally, I hate to rank the photos 1-2-3 and such, but here are a few
of my personal favorites (in page order, more or less):

Thu13 on page 1. Really captures the exuberance of DLV. Michael is very
photogenic, IMAO.

d00143 on page 2. I just like it. No reason in particular. :)

img121 on page 2. Two typical tourist ladies enjoying the sights and
scenes.

img122 on page 2. I agree it's one of the best. I also think 124 and 125
are very good as well.

Page 3 shows a lot of good "having fun" shots. I particularly like
Im000040 and Im000056 although there are many other good ones. I notice
a few "civilians" are joining in the fun. :)

I've never thought of the "decor" of Milano's as being memorable, but it
does make an excellent backdrop for d01000 and d01001 on page 5 as well
as several others.

Page 8 has a lot of very good people pictures. Some are candid, some are
posed. Very difficult to select "best" of a number of very good ones.

I'm partial to many of the photos on page 11 (limo) not just because I'm
in them, but because as I look back, I think of that evening (show and
limo tour) as my most fun this year. :) If I had to pick out a few
favorites, they might be d01149, IM000131, d01152, d01156 (I do think
d01157 is a good study in facial expression), and of course, d01179,
most likely I prefer the "a" edit.

Page 12 has a lot of very good "people having fun" photos, with some
very striking individual shots.

Even though this year's RHPS was suboptimal, there are some very good
pics on page 6. I especially like the audience shots, such as d01246.
There are some good cast shots as well, such as the guy in d01244 and
the "toucha-toucha" in d01109. Let's not forget the "horny couple" in
d01327, the cute couple in d01329, as well as the unconventional
conventionists in IM000126. :) I still have more RHPS ones to scan.

These are some of my personal favorites, although I agree there are
countless excellent ones. Thanks to everybody who took them and sent
them in, as well as to those who appear in them. :)

Risk, bars, RHPS:

>>>way to do a scientific proof that t-girls run a bigger risk of being
>>>recognized by being out in public than on the Internet? This would
>>>be most helpful, I feel, in calming some nerves. Thank you.

>Actually, I have to wonder how that will affect next year's attendence.
>;-)

Good question. I think everybody knows of the "risk" of being recognized
by being out in public. We don't think of such a risk on the web. I don't
know how it will affect attendance if at all, but I'm sure our numbers
will not drop next year. :)

>>>Besides, they don't really want us in the Gay Bars after all.

>The ubiquitous "they", I wonder?

I'm assuming this refers to the one bar in Las Vegas, the f-word, where
I have to agree they don't want our business. It may also refer to
the we-are-not-really-them-and-they-are-not-really-us attitude that
some GLBT people have toward other members of the GLBT community.

With rare exception, yes, they *do* want our bar business, in both
GLBT-oriented places and civilian places as well.

>We rode to the Rocky Horror show with
>the singer and a waiter from Keys who had enjoyed our company and were
>happy to have our business, although the size of the crowd was a little
>more than they had expected.

Yes, Keys loves us, Goodtimes loves us, we love them, as for LVL, well,
uh. <vbfg> :)

>Also, Katie from the Rocky Horror cast loves the Diva Las Vegas group
>and asked me to let her know in advance when we were coming next year so
>that she could play Frank for us.

I know it's not often they receive visitors, let alone offer them
hospitality, but we've been well-received each time we've done RHPS.
Hopefully by next year they will be done with their cast.politics and
concentrating again on putting on the show they are most capable of.

>I've been to four of the five DLV's
>now and have yet to see our group unwelcomed anywhere.

As I think back over the years, the incidents of a less-than-warm
reception are so few and far between as to make them statistically
insignificant.

SO's:

>I had registered to attend but things changed for my time off and i was
>unable to come. Reading the feedback notes I am really sorry I didn't.

Sorry you couldn't make it. Yes, you missed a real goodie. It was the
largest DLV so far, and from the feedback, the most highly rated. Be
sure to join us next year.

>One thing I haven't heard is how many SO's attended and how they liked
>the event.

There were quite a few. I can count 8 SO's off hand and I'm sure I'm
missing 1-2 or so. This is also the second year we've had at least
one male SO.

We haven't had any significant SO feedback here (yet). Ladies
(gentlemen) if you have any feedback to add, it would be most welcome.

One SO, who reported having a very good time, was in the immediate crowd
I kinda hung around with. I also got to spend some time with one of the
others, who was a bit uneasy at first (mostly at the public exposure)
but felt more comfortable as time went on. SO's attended just about
every activity I can think of off hand.

Phone feedback:

On Wednesday the 2nd., the cell phone was quite busy. Mostly it was people
asking legitimate questions, like how to get from {hotel} to Milano's and
such. Some people wanted to let us know they arrived, confirm time and
place for that evening, etc.

There were a number of hangups. Some could have been technical problems,
since I sometimes had trouble with cutoffs and calls not completing.

However, there's one exchange I find amusing ...

Me: Hello

Voice: Hi, uh, is this 289-0004?

Me: Yes it is.

Voice: {pause} Uh, I think I've got the wrong number.

Me: No, this *IS* 289-0004.

Voice: Yes, I've got the wrong number {click}

Go figure!

Maybe. :)

Do an Alta Vista search for "cow-orker" sometime. Maybe look for that
term in the newsfroups. :)

Food Feedback:

>I totally agree about Milano's. The food was EXCELLENT, the staff was
>very friendly and the prices very very reasonable. For the pre-DLV
>gathering, I rank Milano's like 2nd on my list of one of my best times
>out at the DLV events, that is second only to Keys.

I'm trying to remember exactly how we stumbled on Milano's. I know this
is at least the 3rd year we've eaten there. It's close to a number of
the bars, so we probably just wandered in there some evening.

I know last year we had planned to have dinner at the {f-word} (this was
before the restroom incident) but their kitchen was not open at the time,
so most of us just wandered across the street. That was the first real
group thing we had there, iirc.

>As far as the Sahara buffet, well, since I was staying at the Sahara (and
>arrived 2 days before DLV started), I was pretty much tired of the Sahara
>buffet come Friday evening. The food was pretty good considering it was a
>buffet.

That's my conclusion too. I stayed at the Sahara, both for DLV and for
N+I and I probably ate there almost once a day, mostly cuz it was cheap
and convenient. I also ate at their coffee shop several times too.

>I tend to agree with the girls about a more 'upscale' place next year
>for our dinner. Since I'm not a Vegas local, I'll leave it to those who
>know or have experienced better buffets to go to.

We'll be discussing that prior to next year. Most likely we'll pencil
in something like that when we do the initial schedule, and maybe wait
to finalize the venue until a few months before DLV. I know Bellagio
has been mentioned as an upscale buffet for a group outing.

Personally, I wanna be sure we don't price anybody out of any activity,
but I'm sure the more upscale buffets are no more than dinner in a mid
scale restaurant.

>Again, just my 2 pennies worth :)

But worth much more. Thanks. :)

Feedback:

>First of all, and I know I'm late with this, I want to thank you and
>Tina and Denise, and Gina, and Bob, and everyone who worked so hard
>to orgznize Diva 2001. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

You're very welcome. And thank you for coming. Sounds like you enjoyed
it. :)

>Also, and I don't know if anyone's mentioned this before, but I sure
>noticed it. When you go to some of the conventions, the organizers
>are standoffish and aloof. Almost a two-class system, with one class
>being the organizers and the culture celebrities, and then all the
>little girl peons down there below. I also want to thank you for not
>being that way. Everyone was way down to earth, reachable, just one
>of the girls. Thank you for being that way.

Again, you're very welcome. Feedback like this means a lot, it's most
appreciated.

>I don't know what I can do, but if you need any help organizing Diva
>2002, let me know. As I said, I'm not from Vegas, so I can't do much
>but if there's anything I can do, let me know.

Thanks for the offer. Yes, there is something you (and others) can do.
Keep in touch (join the DLVORG list :) and participate in the
discussions over the next few months. We'll have a number of calls for
volunteers over the year, everything from activity coordinators, Big
Sisters<tm> :) volunteer drivers, etc. Think of something you would like
to do, and put your name in when the time comes. If we spread the
responsibility around, nobody gets burned out and everybody can enjoy
DLV.
