Welcome:

This is the first of the monthly summaries and updates for Diva Las Vegas
2002. These will continue to come around the first of the month until
December, 2001. We will then take a break over the holidays and resume
the weekly mailings shortly after New Years 2002.

June-July summary:

Discussions have started on the DLV organizational mailing list, mostly
in terms of summary of this year's event, and just a bit on what would
be appropriate for DLV 2002.

Quick summary would echo that DLV 2001 was an outstanding success, with
a level of enthusiasm at an all-time high. Negative comments are few
and very far between.

Topping the do-it list for the next couple months will be the setting
of the schedule (the days, not the detailed hourly schedule) for DLV
2002. Our timeframe for this is as follows:

July 29: Have a proposed calendar of days ready to present to the
general DLV audience in the July-August monthly summary.

August 1-31: Call for comments and discussion from the general DLV
audience (those of you on this list) regarding the proposed dates.
Mid-month mailings will be made if needed.

September 1: Announcement of the DLV 2002 dates.

The DLV Organizational List is not a closed or exclusive list. It's
open to anybody who wants to help plan and organize DLV 2002, as well
as anybody who just wants to listen in for any reason. If you would
like to receive the mailings on the list, just send a brief note to:

dlvorg@geekbabe.com

... and say to add you to the DLV Organizational list.

Web sites:

The DLV 2001 web site is now in more or less a stable state. Many more
photos have been added in the past month.

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2001/

We've also added links to a few personal sites which have DLV 2002
photos and followups.

If you have a personal site which has DLV 2002 material, please let us
know so we can draw a link to your site from the main DLV 2002 page.
We would also appreciate a link back to the main DLV page from yours.
Please use the main DLV page (http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/) since that
one will certainly remain static.

Kenny Kerr news:

Robyn writes:

>13. Tickets are 24.95 I understand.

Wow, that was fast!

I dunno. It seems very strange that Kenny would want to go there. I
would think that show would play much better to a Strip or Downtown
audience.

Maybe the Regent is trying to attract more of a visitor crowd.

>Also,
>don't know if you've heard but The Regent has been in bankruptcy for
>some time now.

I didn't know they had filed for bankrupcy protection, but I've been told
there are some issues with contractors (for the original construction)
still not being paid.

>Guess it will be interesting to see who lasts longer,
>Kenny or The Regent.

Kenny will survive, I'm sure. Kenny seems like one of those who can take
one hell of a tumble, and come out of it with both feet firmly on the
floor.

As for the Regent, when it first opened, I wondered how such a
wannabe-hoity-toity place could make it that far off the Strip.
For those who don't know where this is, Summerlin is a far northwest
suburb of Las Vegas. Regent is quite a drive from the Strip area.

#include <canonical_list_of_summerlin_putdown_puns.h> :)

I think it's still the only significant casino-hotel without an
illuminated sign.

Ya know, the more I think about it, the more I think that may have been
planned from Kenny's perspective ... the Frontier being just a stopgap
until a larger and more appropriate showroom materialized. I know Kenny
was talking to both the Venetian and the Stardust before landing at the
Frontier, but Venetian wanted too much of the take and Stardust wanted
Kenny to have second-billing, a fill-in when Wayne Newton (whose
contract is only {mumble} shows per year) was not playing.

Frontier has been going downhill for the past few years. They still have
plans to dynamite it and build a San Francisco themed resort, but do not
have the $$$ yet.

Ok, ok, enough digression for this life. :)

Thanks for sending this in, Cat. For those who want a hint of what this
is about, it's a T-party in both Omaha and Kansas City this month.

Unless something tragic happens, I'll make the Omaha part, but will
probably not make the Kansas City part.

That's great. I'm glad you found the experience to be so personally
enlightening. :)

>You have my deepest gratitude.

You're very welcome.
