We had a number of people join the list since the regular July-August
mailing came out. This mailing is a summary of the date and room
comments received so far, in response to the requests for comments in
the last mailing. Those who just joined the list can catch up with that
mailing at:

Keep those cards and letters coming, gang. :)

System issues:

First of all, I've received two reports of people who did not receive the
regular DLV July-August update. This was sent out on August 1. If you did
not receive this, please reply and request a resend.

The system that receives mail for the geekbabe.com domain was off line
for most of August 8th and August 9th due to a blown circuit breaker. If
you sent anything in around those dates and did not receive a reply or
got a bounce message, please resend.

Meeting room:

>I've thought about the meeting room issue and have to vote nay on it.
>I've never had any trouble finding the group at any of the activites,
>and I'm happy just to meet there.
...

>I'll be honest here. Three years ago, I would of voted for the meeting
>room, but if I had and if it was there, I can see myself just sitting
>there shooting the breeze instead of going out and having all the fun
>I did have, so my vote is no.
...

>Couple questions? How much would this cost?

Depends on what type of room and how many are contributing. My guess
would be in the neighborhood of a few dollars per day per person.

>Would this room be available for
>changing?

It depends. If the room ends up as being just a regular hotel room, this
might be an option. I know I've let a few of the local people use my
hotel room for changing on occasion.

If it ends up as being more of a conference type room, this may not be
an option.
...

>on the subject of the room.. if enough interest i would be willing to
>kick in a few dollers. depending on my schedule it might be nice to
>have someplace rather then go all the way home if i plan to join the
>group on a work night..
...

>I like the idea of a meeting room, ideally in a motorlodge type setting
>so one doesn't have to walk immediatly through a hotel foyer and
>comparing it to being fired out of a cannon. hope to hear from you soon

If the meeting room is to happen, unless things drastically change, I
envision it as being at one of the hotels where a good percentage of
our people are staying. The person who volunteered to coordinate this
specifically mentioned the Sahara.
...

>On the meeting room subject. I don't see me using it. When I'm out, I
>want to be out with the girls. When I'm not out, I'll be sleeping. When
>I'm not sleeping I'll be playing Blackjack.

Date comments:

We planned to announce the dates as final around the first of September.
Since the DLVORG group was close to unanimous on the dates, and since no
negative comments have come in, I plan to enter a motion to the DLVORG
group to consider the dates "in stone" in next Sunday's mailing.
...

>>We are proposing the dates of Tuesday evening, April 30, thru Sunday
>>evening, May 5, for Diva Las Vegas 2002.

>these dates are fine with me. looks great.
...

>I'm counting the days already.

Actually, somebody (Julie?) has a days till DLV counter on a web page
already.
...

>Only problem I see is that Monday will be a super let-down.

You can always stay over one extra day. Those who will also attend N+I
will still be there, and I'm sure you can find people to get together
with.
...

>Thank you for setting the dates far in advance. This way I can make
>sure I don't get things in the way. When will you know for sure what
>the date is?

See notes above.
