Registration confirmation:

Within the next week we will be sending everybody who has registered a copy
of their registration data to check over and update if needed.

If you have registered and do not receive this by next weekend, please
write to dlv@geekbabe.com and explain.

We ask you to please note a few things:

1. If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your registration.
If you later find out you will be able to attend, it's easy to un-cancel.
This will help assure our headcount numbers are more accurate.

2. If you will either be needing rides, or have volunteered to drive,
please be sure your arrive and depart dates and where you are staying
are accurate, as we will be using this information to match riders with
drivers.

3. E-mail addresses. Please be sure your e-mail address on your
registration is your preferred address. If your registration
confirmation bounces, we'll try to match it up with somebody on the
mailing list, but if we can't we really don't have any option but
to cancel the registration. (This happened once last year.)

You can make updates on the web at http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/reg.html
or if you don't wanna jump thru the hoop to update on the web, just
hit REPLY to the confirmation and explain what has to be changed.

Airport security:

Cat seems to have the best of luck (NOT) when it comes to being singled
out for inspections. I asked her to please write it up, as it's amusing
and could help ease the anxiety of those planning to fly to DLV.

Cat writes:

>I am sitting here watching the sun come up in New Orleans and found

Thanks, Cat. I hope people will realize that if they should be singled
out for inspection, they will be nothing new to the inspectors. They
have seen it all before, many times over.

If I may add a few comments ...

So far (knocking on wood) I haven't been singled out for inspection of
checked items, but I was searched at the security checkpoint once when
the x-ray operator noticed a hemostat and a pair of pliers in my carry
on bag. They pulled me aside and rooted thru the bag, but only really
cared about the tools. They had to call in a supervisor to ok the
pliers, but other than that it was no hassle. Since then I have packed
any tools in the check-in bags.

From my observation, the privacy of the search seems to vary from
airline to airline, from airport to airport, and somewhat by the phase
of the moon. In Omaha, it looks like both American and Southwest have
partitions up around their areas, making them somewhat discreet. On
Midwest Express, they do it on a table to the side of the ticket
counter.

When I took the flight to Atlanta, I phoned Midwest to ask when I REALLY
should be there, and they said 4:45am at the latest for a 6:15am flight.
I got there at 4:30 and the line was snaked around almost out to the
door. They had one person doing inspections, and it appeared that when
she was done with one person, they randomly sent another over to her.
This was right out in the open, but it appeared nobody was paying
attention. Passengers were more concerned with getting their morning
refreshments and finding directions to the gates and such.

I didn't really check out the other airlines in Omaha, since Southwest
is at the extreme north end of the complex and ME and American are at
the extreme opposite end.

In Atlanta, again Midwest Express, there was not a visible search area
anywhere by the ticket counter. The line was short (5 or so, a great
advantage of flying ME instead of Delta out of Atlanta). Nobody on line
at the time was searched.

In Las Vegas (Southwest) they had a few open tables in the area by the
ticket counter with two, maybe three people doing inspections. The line
was several hundred people deep at the time (Southwest is LV's largest
carrier) and seemingly at random people were sent back there. There was
some speculation by the people waiting as to how those were selected.
One person commented that one-way tickets, paying in cash, or showing up
cold with no reservation would guarantee you a trip to the back tables.

As far as airport delays at the checkpoints, I've seen about 15 minutes
max in Omaha, about 20 minutes max in Las Vegas, but in Atlanta they
were backed up all the way to the rotunda by the food court. Took 47 (I
timed it) minutes to clear the checkpoint in Atlanta and it looked like
they were hand-searching very few.

Dress:

>Help out a clueless newbie here, please? I'm slightly confused on how
>you're supposed to dress? I've been through the web site and saw all
>kinds of clothes, but I'm still not sure. Help. I presume en femme is
>ok to wear, right?

Yes, girlmode is very ok, even encouraged. Boymode is an option, although
not a very popular one. :)

How you dress for any activity is really up to you, but we will be
sending out a blurb on dress guidelines, as well as suggestions for each
activity right before the big event.

To do a few quickie comments, when deciding on what to wear to any DLV
activity, consider the following:

. Your personal preferences, your style, your likes and dislikes, your
mood at the time (of course).

. Your age, size, and body type.

. What is usual and customary for such an activity, what is appropriate
for the time, place, and circumstance of that particular activity.

I'm sure there will be a bit of discussion regarding dress as the time
approaches. If you have any specific questions or concerns, please ask.

Main Street Station

Katie writes:

I know where that is, but I don't think too many of our people will be
able to find it, except Tony, maybe. :)

I'll agree that Main Street Station is a nice place, one of the better
ones downtown, imao. Only suggestion I would make is to not wander to
the north of it after dark unless you are carrying a weapon, and since
none of our people ever carry weapons, don't wander north of it after
dark. :)

TG Taxi:

Just to let everybody know this service will be available ...

One of our local people has made the acquaintence of a local taxi driver
who happens to be TG and she has offered to provide her direct phone
number and schedule to the DLV people.

We'll publish the number in the large mailing that gets sent to the
registered people just prior to DLV.

Mailbag:

>Please send me more information as a newbie first timer wanting to
>venture would this be the time/place for me?

A number of people have used DLV for their first public experience.
Most everybody reports a very rewarding experience.

>I think I could pass just gotta get the makeup thing down.

There will be options available for makeovers, both transformation
and instructional. Two shops in the area do this.

>What are the events hotels etc,

Activities are all over town in various places. For hotels, we're
recommending the Boardwalk, Imperial Palace, and Sahara. Discussion of
hotels takes place on the mailing list. Look at the back mailings.

>I think for my first time I would show up in multi mode :)

What some people do is to do their first few activities in boymode and
then switch to girlmode once they are familiar with the group. Others
will do boymode in the day and girlmode in the evening.

I'm not sure what you mean by multi-mode. If you mean casual girlmode,
that is fine at almost all activities. If you mean mixed mode, that is
not encouraged except for a few things. We'll be giving out some dress
guidelines geared toward new people and some suggestions for the
various activities.

Any other questions or concerns, please let us know. Hope to see you
later this spring.
