Housekeeping items and rogues gallery:

First of all, welcome to those who just joined. Our list is again at an
all-time high due to those just joining over the past few days. If
there's anything we can do or any concerns you have, please let us know.

Golf: For those of you who want to play golf with the group, which is
scheduled for Friday morning, May 3, a separate golf mailing list has
been set up do discuss this and make plans. If you are interested in
playing golf, just send a brief note to: dlvgolf@geekbabe.com and say
you want to be added to the golf list.

Registration: Everything is pointing to a very heavy turnout. We're
asking everybody to please help us keep our registration data and
headcount numbers accurate. When you're sure you will be attending,
please register. URL is below. Likewise, if you have registered and
you find you will be unable to attend, please cancel. You can always
un-cancel with one mouse click if your plans change again. See the
note on registration below.

Photos: Over the past week, two people have tried to send in photographs
to this list. In both cases, I've written back explaining that photos
sent to the list do not make it, quoting the instructions on the
boilerplate at the bottom, and asking them to resend. Nobody resent. :(

I'm not trying to be difficult here, it just doesn't work when you send
them to the list. I can't even manually extract them and recover them.

If you wish to send photos for all of us to see, just mail them using
any of the standard methods to: annie@annie.net and they will make it.

We can't attach photos to this list due to the digest process that is
used to make it, however, we can place them on line and put a clickable
link in this list.

Which leads me into another topic which has come up a couple times in
the past, but nothing has ever happened with it. We would like to start
a "rogues gallery", so to speak, of DLV people. This is strictly
voluntary, and not necessarily limited to those who will be attending
this year.

If you want to be included in this "Gallery", which will be on a link
from the main DLV page, give us 1-3 images of you using one of the
following methods.

1. e-mail, file attach, any common method to: annie@annie.net

2. For photos on the web, just e-mail the URL of the individual photo(s)
in here. If they're on the existing DLV pages, just say which page and
which photo(s).

This will allow people to get a glimpse of the others on this list. We do
have a list of web pages, but this will give one convenient point for
photos of all who participate.

A few people are already in the gallery. Look at the URL:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/gallery/

You'll see some faces to go with a few names that are familiar to those
reading this list.

Dress update:

Mindy sends in some updates to our activity dress suggestions:
. . . . .

ok some dress things re the events i am doing..

1. pool party... come comfy and bring a swim suit. preferabley fem but
male is ok.. my neighbors are used to me and my friends so if you want a
chance to show up in cut offs and a tank top go for it.. non dress
considerations. bring a side dish and a towl *LOL*

2. golf.. again.. fem mode is prefered but not required.. but you will
be at a prize disadvante playing in guy mode and we may make you play
from the "way back tees" course already knows about us and is more the
welcoming for us.. required attire for fem is no cutoffs.. no t'shirts
but tank tops or sleeveless golf shirts are ok.. plain fem tops with no
art is ok.. shorts or skorts should be of modest length (they define
that as no cheeks showing)

3. afternoon high tea.. summer dresses. slacks discourged (ie a nice
pantsuit would be ok but jeans or chinos wont let you in). hats and
gloves optional but hey if we want to make a statement. a summer suit
would be perfect. i have been to a few teas.. the big thing seems to
be an outfit that says i'm casual classy.. almost all the regular ladies
have purses that match the shoes.. makeup is light and manner is very
gentiel (did i spell that right?)
. . . . .

Thanks, Mindy, I'll get this added to the dress suggestions list.

Our people have good reports on two shops, both listed on:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/lvvendors.html

1. La Rue's, on Sahara in Commercial Center, 735-2418, ask for Cathy.

2. Nail Art, on Tropicana near Pecos, 898-7002.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Judy. Yes, it is gonna be nice to finally meet in real life after
all these years on line.

Ladies, I know we've talked somewhat about the makeovers at the shops in
Las Vegas. These shops are fast getting the reputation of doing a very
good job, but yes, they are a bit spendy. This may be a reasonable
option for those on a budget, or for those who want more of a "civilian"
thing.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Weather:

>I have read the FAQ page, but am still curious about how the weather
>will be in Vegas during DLV.

It varies quite a bit. Usually dry, highs in the 80's, sometimes 90's,
lows in 60's, sometimes even high 50's. I have seen it in the 100's in
May, though. Does not rain that often, but when it does, it POURS!

We should probably add this to the FAQ list.

>Will I need a jacket during the day?

Not during the day unless it is unusually cool.

>I hear that it can get chilly in the desert at night?

Yes it can. Last year we had a couple very cool evenings. Usually the only
place you will need a sweater or jacket is on the casino floor. They tend
to OD on the AC. I'll always pack a sweater, but very seldom need it.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Hotel Info:

>I want to be able to stay in a hotel that might be somewhat close or in
>the heart of where there might be some sort of a "mustering" location
>for all the girls.

Our two largest contingents appear to be at the Imperial Palace and the
Sahara as of this time.

There are no common DLV facilities in the hotels and there will be no
planned staging or mustering before activities. Closest you might get
to that is where a volunteer driver says "pick all of you up at the
valet park at 5:30" or something.

>The "Main Street Station Hotel" has been mentioned several times and I
>have located the website.

>Will this be a good choice?

If you want to be with or near several of the others, no. It's a nice
place, but I know of only one DLV person who actually is planning to
stay there as of this time, and only two others who will be staying in
the Downtown LV general area.

>I'm a practiced and confident girl who goes everywhere, so the hotel
>that I stay at need only be, location friendly to all of the "DLV"
>events.

Sahara, IP, and Boardwalk about equally convenient to the DLV
activities. Downtown hotels are a little less so.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
LV Hilton:

>sorry to say i won't be able to be at DLV but i'll be thinking of all
>of you.

>someone asked a ?? about the LV Hilton. I've stayed there two times and
>had a good en femme experience both times.

>for those a little nervous about strolling thru the lobby ask for a
>room in the north tower. there's a glass elevator on the outside of the
>hotel that ends at the exit door nearest the parking garage. a short
>stroll across the walkway and you're in your car.

Happiness is a warm gun:

>This info is a bit off of DLV events, but last year some DLVers went
>to a gun show on saturday or sunday, and may be interested in this
>information that I just got off the web.

>There WAS a gun show scheduled again in LV for May 4-5,2002, on the
>weekend of DLV. Not any more...... The dates have been CHANGED to May
>11-12, or the following weekend.

>No reason was given why it was changed. The dates on the notice have a
>disclaimer that says that dates are subject to change at any time, so
>maybe .... maybe it may change back.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Getting to know you:

>I have been following your messages and found them to be helpful. I
>wonder if there is some good safe way to find out who is planning to go
>to this event.

There are two easy ways to introduce yourself to the others and to get
to know the others in advance of DLV.

First is to write a brief introduction and post it to the list.

Second is to list your personal website on the list, inviting others to
stop by. Please feel free to visit the others, and use their e-mail
links to make personal contact, if you wish.

A third option is if we create a DLV chat group, which is possible, see
below.

Another option, which has come about since the original response to this
note was written, is to submit your photo(s) for the DLV People Gallery.
See note above on this.

>While I have been to Las Vegas several times I have never been to DLV
>before. Because i have many other things that I have to do in Las Vegas
>I don't know if I will be able to wear my dresses. So I may be spending

>classified as an admirer, but a TG person finding the lay of the land
>as a first time participant.

Boymode is fine, as long as you're comfortable with it. You can attend as
few or as many of our activities as you like.

We don't actually have anything against admirers. Anybody who identifies
with the theme of DLV and agrees to behave as a lady or gentleman (or
both at times) is welcome to attend.

>I plan to divide my time between the Excalibur hotel and the
>Statosphere hotel. I plan to stay by myself but I thought I would at

>For those who are looking for a low rate Excalibur has midweek at $45,

>decent. I have never stayed at the Stratosphere nor met anyone who has
>but I think it should be satisfactory.

We've had people stay at both the Stratosphere and the Excalibur. As far
as rates, Sahara is currently quoting $89/$37, which is slightly lower
than you have above.

>I am wondering if a moderated yahoogroup might work. At least it would
>give a way to converse with DLV participants before arriving. There is
>no one else in my area that I know of that is going to DLV. So in a
>way I am still somewhat in the dark.

I would like to see information and conversation about DLV remain
focused on this list, and on spinoffs (such as DLVGOLF) if needed. We
once considered a spinoff list (DLVCHAT) for informal chit-chat
regarding DLV, but the demand was not apparent.

If you (or anybody else) wants to see a separate DLVCHAT list, just say
the word and we will make it so. My only concern is that those who do
not subscribe to it may end up "out of the loop" on some things.

All of our lists are viewable on the web, as well as via e-mail, for
those who prefer it that way.

>Pardon my ramblings on. I want to be as prepared as possible for DLV. I
>believe in what DLV is about and it is important enough to me to
>support by being there. I look forward to any recommendations on how to
>safely know who is interested in going to DLV so I can have a better
>understanding of what is going on around me. Maybe I should email the
>people who have websites on the bottom of your messages. Any help you
>have is welcome.

First thing I would do is to write a brief note of introduction and
post it on the list. I'm sure some of the others will do as well.

If I may add just a few comments. Even though you might not know anybody
else when you come to DLV, you will be among friends. It is almost
universally reported that this is a very easy group to get along with
and to be a part of. Many people have remarked that they feel "part of
the gang" within minutes after meeting the others.

Roommate Clearing House (updated):

This will be an ongoing section whenever there are current roommate
items. Items will be posted until we get a note to remove them. If you
are interested in sharing a room with the individual(s) below, please
contact directly using the e-mail address(es) below.

Please keep in mind that any roommate arrangements are a private matter
between the cooperating parties only. DLV organizers and volunteers are
not responsible if there are problems or if things don't work out. We do
absolutely no screening of roommate candidates. Everything is at the
risk of those involved.
