Special mailing coming Wednesday:

On Wednesday an important special mailing will be made to members of this
list.

It will contain any specific instructions regarding any activities where
any advance fee must be paid, where a sign-up is required, where space
may be limited, or where anything special must be done in order to
attend and participate.

It will outline and discuss the hoops that must be jumped in order for
you to participate with the group in the particular activities.

While most DLV activities are simply show-up and pay-as-you-go in
nature, with no reservation (other than the normal DLV registration of
course), some of them will require a sign-up in advance, and some may be
limited in space, in which case they will be first-signed, first served.

We're asking everybody to look this mailing over, and make some
decisions as to which activities you would like to attend.

Toward the end of this week, everybody who has registered for DLV will
receive a personalized mailing containing a clickable link to an activity
headcount screen. You can then select which of these activities you will
be attending. You may change your mind at any time, but remember, in
many cases it's first-signed, first served.

Activity update:

Slight change of plans for Friday. The Friday evening dinner has been
rescheduled for a rather new place called Sasha's at 5:30pm.

Dinner entertainment will be provided by none other than (Anton, a drum
roll please ... {tat-a-tat-a-tat-a}) Michael Cagle. {cymbal crash} Yes,
gang, the lost has been found! :)

Boymode:

>Although I dress only in private I hope I can enjoy all of your company
>in boy wear. I am a firefigher and will be there from early May 3-9.

Boymode is fine for most everything we do at DLV.

>I will have a car so maybe I can help with some transportation. I was
>at the Southern Comfort Convention in 2000 and had a great time there.

I see you've noted that you have a car on your registration. We'll be
sending out lists of those who need rides and those who have vehicles
shortly before DLV.

>Hope the girls won't mind me attending some of the functions and
>meeting everyone.

We won't mind at all. Glad to have you with us.

>I wanted to thank you for all of the information that you have
>provided.

You're very welcome. :)

>I will be staying at Paris, don't know if any of the other girls will
>be there.

I don't think we have anybody else staying there, but we do have people
nearby at various places.

>Best Regards and hope to see you in a little
>over a month.

Sahara Players Club rates:

Annie ("the other Annie") writes: :)

>54 per night 5/03 and 5/04/02 and then 27 per night thru 5/06/02 if
>anyone is looking for a room to stay if your looking to save cost and
>you have a players card

Thanks for the note. That is a considerable savings on the weekend.
(Kicking myself for not signing up.) Players Club members do get better
rates most of the time at many hotels, plus assorted freebees.

More Sahara rates:

Here's what has been the experience of the DLV people at the Sahara over
the past few years. Sahara has three hotel towers, Tunis, Alexandria,
and Tangiers. Tangiers is the newest and a bit fancier. Tunis is the
oldest and smallest. Alexandria is kind of in the middle.

They try to sell the "Deluxe" rooms in the Tangiers for slightly more
than the others, but it seems many people have paid the standard rate
and ended up in the Tangiers tower anyway.

The past two years I've ended up in the Tunis tower, and last year the
room was quite large actually. It's my perception that the elevators
are more prompt in Tunis than they are in the others.

>I have a friend who lives in Las Vegas (and who will be coming to Diva
>Las Vegas) about this and 'she' wasn't impressed, thought I could do
>better.

I would say that $106/52 is a very "ok" rate for a decent Strip hotel on
what may be a very busy weekend. You probably will not find a nicer room
cheaper anywhere on the Strip between now and DLV. You will find decent
rooms cheaper off-Strip (Stations, AZ Charlies, etc.) and downtown
(Plaza, Fitz, El Cortez) however.

>Just thought I'd let you know.

And thanks for letting us know. :)

Slumber party signup:

I'm responding to a few related items all at once here ...

>HMMM do we have to sign up for the slumber,

Yes, and this will be included in the activity headcount procedure sent
out next week.

>I notice a room limit of 30??

>Its there a limit as to how we can let our hair down after the first
>hour, if some girls want to get more closely aquatinted

I suppose that depends on how long your hair is. :)
. . . . .

>Hi, I guess I missed something. Do you have to sign up for the
>slumber party? I definitely want to go, but did not notice until the
>latest email that there seems to be a quota of 30 on the party. If
>this is so and there is still room, please add me to the list. I am
>registered for Diva Las Vegas and have my air and hotel reservations
>confirmed and paid for, so I will be there.

Watch your mail around Wednesday of next week. This will tell you how
to get your name on the list for this and any other activities we
have a list for.
. . . . .

>I must have missed it in one of the many previous mailings. There is so
>much in each one and so little time. Or perhaps it was raised before I
>registered.

This was covered in the general activity announcement a few mailings back,
but I don't think the slumber party was mentioned specifically.

>Is it too late to sign up for the slumber party?

Nope. Sign-ups haven't even started.

>I'd really like to attend but this mailing makes it sound like you had
>to be on some list of 30.

Yes, you do have to be one of the first 30 on the list. Watch your
mailbox next week.

>Is there a waiting list in case of cancellations?

Yes, there will be.

>Is there a way to appeal to LeeAnne directly?

Of course. Flowers and candy may work, Dinner might be more effective. :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
LV MK rep:

That would be Ronnie at rolandad@earthlnk.net or 702-898-3441.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Should I or should I not:

>Pardon this too long question.

Pardon this long answer. :) I'll try to answer as completely and as
honestly as I can. I've edited quite a bit so if you see I've left
anything important out, please remind me. I did read your entire note
thoroughly.

>The question I really have is <will this be an enjoyable experience or
>torture?>

I would say that it could be enjoyable and challenging if you go into it
with the right attitude and realize that you are just starting with
public exposure, and perhaps take things easy.

>I wonder how I will be able to
>learn enough to look femme enough not to look like a fool in
>woman's clothing.

Developing a look and style does take time and some effort. There are a
number of things that can be done to help you with this. You will learn
as you get the experience of appearing in public and interacting with
others.

>What to do about makeup?

If you have little or no experience, I'm going to suggest that you book
an appointment with one of the shops, either Glamour Boutique or Hidden
Woman for an instructional makeover. We do have a makeup demo on the
schedule for Saturday, but you will probably want more of a one-on-one
thing.

>Wig?

If you currently have one or several, there are a number of shops who
will style them and help you with the look you want. One of them has
same-day turnaround in most cases. If you don't currently have a wig,
there are several shops that we recommend, from discount to quite
pricey, and everything inbetween.

>hair on legs and arms?

Leg hair is usually taken care of by shaving or Nair. Some people use
opaque tights, but those will be quite warm in LV at that time.

If arm hair is obvious, shaving/Nair is probably best, but some use
cream bleach to make it less obvious. Others just wear long sleeves,
but that will be quite warm in LV in May.

>Walking?

Carriage and poise takes practice. The others can give you some pointers
and some honest critiques to help you out, but the only way to develop
this is to get in there and do it.

>I just ordered a new book by Charles Anders "The Lazy Crossdreser" He
>seems to maintain that we spend to much time and effort trying to be
>perfect and pass while most women don't go that far.

I've heard of this book, but have not read it. This is one person's
opinion.

>I am not convinced that most attendees would agree with that after
>looking at the pictures from the past DLVs and the individual pictures.

From my observation, if there is an issue along this line, it is that
several people pay minute attention to detail, but not to the total
image. This is kind of related to some recent items on the list.

GG's have years of experience not only in matters like fashion and
makeup, but in just being a girl in everyday life. TG's do not have
this level of experience, so yes, more attention and effort is usually
necessary.

>I don't see myself looking as good as you all and I did not see
>pictures of anyone not looking very feminine.

This may be due to a few things. First of all, I took many of those
photos, and I won't take any of somebody who does not want to be
photographed, or of somebody who does not look presentable. If a photo
looks bad, I won't use it. Also, everybody who appears has a chance to
say "no" to any photos in which they appear. Unflattering photos are
usually removed this way. I also avoid taking pictures of those in
boymode.

>So let me know what you honestly think. You have lots of reservations
>and are not making money off this deal so I trust you.

I'll be honest. This will be more challenging to be doing for a very
first public thing.

We've had a number of people use us for their very first exposure.
I almost always recommend that those with no experience, or those who
are a bit uneasy do the first few activities in boymode, get to know
the group, and ease into girlmode when they feel the time is right.

>If you DO say yes, come, I will still be nervous,

Being nervous is normal and expected. What is also reported is that the
nervousness goes away very rapidly once you meet the group and get to
know people.

>so I want to know about big sister help and how to stay with the group.

What we can do is match you up with one of the volunteer Big Sisters
via e-mail prior to DLV, if you want to correspond 1 on 1 about any
issues. When you get to DLV, you will get more advice than you could
possibly use. :)

If you want to be matched with a Big Sister, just send a note in with
the phrase "Big Sister request" in the subject.

>I already have tentative plans to stay at the Sahara. As of tonight
>rooms and air are still ok. (I have to fly so the total for everything,
>I figure is going to be at least a $1000 including hotel/air) which is
>OK.

Some people report doing DLV for around $500, so if you have budgeted
$1000, you will be in good shape. Last I knew, Southwest was $200 or so
for most routes. I don't know if Frontier serves any airports in your
area, but they are selling very cheap roundtrip tickets to LV from some
markets.

>I just don't want to feel humiliated or too nervous to participate in
>all the fun.

Nervousness is natural, but it goes away very rapidly. If you go easy,
you won't find yourself in a humiliating situation. Our people are very
friendly and caring, and any criticism you hear will be constructive.

>I also don't want to go dressed all the time as a guy, especially at
>the DLV events as that would make me look even worse to those I respect.

No, doing boymode will not make you look any worse, and it's perfectly
OK to do that, especially if you're new to going out in public or if
you are nervous. Nobody will look down upon you for showing up in
boymode to any DLV activity.

What I suggest you do is to attend the first few activities in boymode,
get to know the group, observe others, and seek advice, and, if you're
ready, test the water by attending one of the evening activities, such
as the DLV Welcome Celebration, in girlmode. That will also give you
time for an instructional makeover, and any hair or wig styling, as
well as time to purchase anything else you need.
