Final mailing:

Unless anything profound comes in, this will be the final mailing to the
DLV 2002 general mailing list. This list will remain archived at:

http://www.geekbabe/com/annie/dlv02arc/

Any additional comments and feedback will be posted in the June/July or
subseqent monthly summaries.

Preliminary planning has begun toward DLV 2003. We plan to announce the
tentative dates around the first of August.

Again, thanks to everybody who did their part to make DLV 2002 the
outstanding event it was. Good show, gang! :)

Oh, and don't forget about Pinkfest in October:

You're very welcome, Jamie. We'll get this posted this weekend. Glad you
could make it for the time you did, and that you had a good time.

Yes, we did, it turned out very well and as you know the feedback showed
everybody had a very good time.

We will most likely be suggesting at least one upscale hotel for our
people who want something more elegant, yes. This has been suggested
several times.

>I always favor the option of having a group go to "straight" dance

We won't have everything in any one place, that's for sure. However,
we don't want to quit using the places our people keep telling us they
like, such as Goodtimes, Flex, Sasha's, etc., and yes, those are all
GLBT places.

We also want to explore new and different things, both alternative and
mainstream. RA has been suggested for an outing next year, and it will
most likely be on the schedule.

>I'd also propose that an option be made available for a group to go one
>night to see a headliner or floor show (e.g. Cirque De Soleil, Tom
>Jones, etc.).

We've had suggestions of an "artsy" show, and O (Cirque) was mentioned
along with Blue Man Group.

We do have tentative plans for Showgirls Of Magic for next year, but
there will most likely be at least one more show on the agenda.

>I also prefer a Sunday to Sunday DLV, since it just makes it a bit
>easier to schedule a continuous week off from work than to have to
>break it across two work weeks.

There have been a number of requests for a longer DLV.

For that to happen, one other thing must happen, and that is we must
have enough volunteers to plan and implement quality activities over
the entire period plus the extended period.

Even though some of our activities are trivial, meaning the only
planning is to say show up and do it, most of them do require some
effort to make happen. It's unfair to ask those people who have been
doing multiple things to do yet more. We need more people to stand up
and say "yes, I will commit to organizing one or more nontrivial
activities" in order for a longer DLV to happen.

>Anyway, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I won't have any work
>commitments next year and will be able to join you for DLV 2003, so
>please keep me on your e-mail list.

Yes, we will keep everybody on the list for next year. We will most
likely have the proposed dates for DLV ready for comments toward the end
of summer.

I'm assuming you mean the Las Vegas Lounge here. We didn't use them for
any of our gatherings this year because of many complaints, most of them
being, yes, music too loud to converse, and drink prices that escalated
when the dancers went on stage.

<LOL ... sorry> :) No, Milano's is that small Italian place we've eaten
at for years, and Sasha's is a rather new restaurant and night club.

>Casual conversation is the most favorite thing of
>mine to do at Diva. I would like to put in a second request for more

We realize this. Personally, I think one of the most important
activities we have (even though it's not the highest on the excitement
scale) is what we now call the Annual Mixer, our Friday evening thing at
Goodtimes. From feedback, it appears others agree on this.

The message of more quality social time has been heard, loud and clear.

>>+Also, we found it difficult to mix in as
>>+newcomers as most people had their associations already formed.

I believe this is a very rare exception to what is expected at DLV
and can be expected at DLV in the future. What you are reporting is
what has almost universally been reported since DLV began, and was
reported this year.

Several of us were astonished to hear this, and we've tried to review
what we could. Next year there will be extra attention paid to be sure
nobody is excluded. I admit we have a larger crowd, and it's impossible
to stop the conversation and introduce each newcomer as we did years
ago, but we will to our best to be sure everybody is included and
introduced around. DLV will not become impersonal as it grows!

More feedback:

>I agree, as I am one of those that could make as I had to work. But it
>might help if next year those that sign up for the slumber or pool
>party type events donate 10-15 buck up front mailed to annie,

Uh, maybe mailed somewhere. :) I'm definitely not the Treasurer for
this group. :)

>then if
>not enough people donate to the cause the events can be cancelled
>before hand due lack of iinterest, or if not everyone does not show,
>then no one individual get hurt in the pocket or feelings.

Yes, you are correct, and this will probably be a requirement for any
similar activities in the future.

>As to the convention idea, dont think so. The only reason I started
>coming to DLV is because of its informal atmosphere. If those that want

>DLV, and have the DLV as the fun activity section of the traditional

>convention, its uniqueness makes it fun, and enjoyable nuf said.

Speaking very freely here, the convention idea was not a serious
proposal. I composed it as a response-in-advance to those who might be
pushing for a more formalized and structured DLV. Fortunately, this year
I've heard no such calls for more of a convention-like DLV.

If anything, less structure is desired, from looking at the feedback.

Bottom line, again, DLV The Vacation ain't goin' away, nor will it morph
into a convention. (OMDB!) As you say, the uniqueness makes it fun.

Yes, and from the feedback, we did a very good job of pleasing most
of the people most of the time.

>We (the attendees) need to take responsibility for make the gathering a
>fun event...I believe that was achieved. Thanks for being open to the

You are very welcome. Yes, everybody present added to the experience,
and such an event would not be possible without the attendance and
support of all the DLV'ers.
