Weekly updates:

Welcome to those who just registered or joined the list. Glad to have
you with us. We're just over a month away from the big event.

If you have not made your travel and lodging arrangements yet, you
should do so with no further delay.

Hotel rates are indeed creeping upward. Sahara is now up to $119 per
night for the DLV weekend. Still $39 for the weekdays over the DLV
period... for now. Don't procrastinate!!

Quick check with Southwest Airlines still shows good rates from many
major airports, but some flights are now showing sold out or do not
have the cheaper seats available anymore.

Registrations and activity sign-ups continue to roll in. Total
registration headcount is now up to 118. Reconfirmed headcount
(those who have reconfirmed by completing activity sign-up) is
now 94 and counting.

Thanks to all who sent in their activity selections. There are still a
few of these outstanding. (>>HINT<<) Those who did not respond will
receive a gentle reminder shortly. Not-so-gentle reminders will be sent
out later this week. :)

Please make preliminary and tentative activity selections even if you
have not yet made up your mind which things you do and do not want to do
with the group, as this reconfirms your intent to attend dlv. Plus, it
will avoid you getting increasingly assertive reminders to do so. You
can always change your mind whenever you want and as often as you want.

If you registered prior to last Monday, March 10, and have not received
an activity sign-up e-mail, please let us know. Those who registered
March 10 or after will receive this shortly.

In each mailing from now until DLV we will feature a few words about
one of our upcoming activities. This week we will spotlight Showgirls
Of Magic, which we will attend on Saturday of DLV week as our feature
evening activity.

Missing in action:

Jonie H. and Suzanne S. If you are reading this, please contact us
(dlv@geekbabe.com) with a working e-mail address.

If anybody is acquainted with either of the above, please pass on the
word that their e-mail is bouncing and we need a valid e-mail address
if they are to remain registered for DLV 2003.

Showgirls Of Magic:

On Saturday, April 26, we will be attending the 10:30 performance of
Showgirls Of Magic at the San Remo, following happy hour and dinner at
the San Remo.

This is a very good show! It's not all showgirls, and it's not all
magic. It's fast-paced and very entertaining. Some of us saw this last
year, and I literally laughed so hard I hurt!.

Not only is this a great show, the attitude and the atmosphere of the
San Remo make it a comfortable experience for those who are new to
public exposure.

We've received the invitation to attend the show by "Tiny Bubbles",
one of the performers, so they know all about our group, and who we
are. The showroom staff is expecting us, and I've been assured by
their management that it will be a comfortable experience for all.

We've arranged for a discounted price of $25 per person, which includes
two drinks. This is a very good price for a very good show!

As far as ticket purchase, it's gonna be Burger King, you can have it
your way. You can either pay Annie in advance, at most any of the DLV
activities, or you can purchase your tickets personally at the San Remo
box office, whichever you prefer. (See later mailings for exact ticket
purchase instructions.)

San Remo is known to be a very friendly place. They know who we are and
what we are, so it will be a very easy-going and wonderful evening, even
for beginners.

We're hoping to get everybody from DLV there for the highlight of the
weekend, so remember this when you fill out your activity selections.
If you've already done this and not included Showgirls Of Magic, you
can easily go back and update your selections.

Dress for this activity can be anything from nice casual to dressy to
formal, depending on your desire and mood at the time. If you're looking
for an opportunity to put on the dog, go4it! :)

But wait! There's more! :)

Immediately following the show we will have a group photo session on
stage with the cast of Showgirls Of Magic. Posing for this will be
optional, depending on your wishes and comfort level. Images will be
made promptly and at no charge to those posing with the group.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Activity waiting lists:

Please don't get discouraged (at this time, anyway) if you see that your
favorite activity has the "full - waiting list" flag on it when you do
your activity sign-ups. In many cases this is a yellow caution flag, and
not a brick wall.

For those activities that do have absolute hard limits, there will most
certainly be changes and cancellations between now and DLV, and waiting
lists now are short.

For some activities, we simply need to make some adjustments on the fly.

For the Area 51 side trip, for example, both vehicles that were planned
for the trip are now full, but if there are more people willing to
drive, everybody who wants to go, gets to go.

For the Limo Tour, we can get a reasonable number of extra vehicles, so
as long as there are enough to fill extra limos, everybody signed up at
this point, either confirmed or waiting, should get to go. This *IS* a
very popular activity, so don't wait on this!

We've talked things over and made adjustments for the SBS Garden Party
to allow more people. It looks like the limiting factor here will be
parking in the neighborhood, so we're going to encourage people to
carpool.

The individual activity hostesses will always be able to adjust the
limits if she needs to.

Another thing new this year is that just before DLV, right around the
time of the large final mailing, everybody will get your own list of
what you are signed up for, what status (ok or waiting) you have on
each, and some notes on each activity you're signed up for.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Possible schedule change:

A wrench may have been thrown into the works regarding our Wednesday
evening activities. Sasha's, the nightclub and restaurant where we plan
to hold Happy Hour, followed by a dinner/show, has announced that they
may be closing their doors for good.

The exact status is still not known as of this time. Last report is that
they are still open, for now, but their status over the DLV period is
uncertain.

Your DLV organizers have been in constant touch regarding this. We're
now evaluating our options. There is what appears to be a very good
proposal on the table for an alternate, should we need it, but it's just
a bit too soon to say anything one way or the other. We will most likely
know more by the mailing next week.

For now, please do not change your activity selections. The wording on
the sign-up screen has been changed slightly. When the venue has been
solidified, we will announce it here and if a change has indeed
occurred, anybody who wants to make a change in activity sign-up
can do it then.

This is nothing new to us. Prior to DLV 2002 we had not one but two
closures to deal with, one of them occurring less than a month prior
to DLV. As everybody remembers, things worked out quite well.

And remember, it's still Red Shoe Night! :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Payment for activities:

There have been a few questions and concerns about how to pay for
various activities. Hopefully this will clear up the confusion.

On the activity sign-up screen there are (now) statements as to how much
various things cost and when and where they are payable. There was an
omission with regard to the Jubilee show. That has been corrected.

Remember, you must have signed up for these activities on the sign-up
screen.

Here's a summary of the major activities where a payment is necessary
and how, where, and to whom the payment must be made. These are the
activities where the volunteer coordinators have stated specific payment
instructions.

1. Jubilee show. (Thursday eve.) This will be $49 per person, payable
at any DLV activity prior to Wednesday, April 23. If you will not be
arriving at DLV prior to Wednesday, please write to dlv@geekbabe.com
for prepayment instructions. On Wednesday, any unclaimed tickets will
be released to the waiting list.

2. Limo Tour. (Thursday eve.) There still some math going on in the
background regarding the exact price for this, but it will be $20-ish
per person. Sign-up screen did say $20, so cancellation without penalty
is allowed for those who signed up prior to the wording being changed.
This is payable at any DLV activity prior to Thursday, April 24. If
you will not be arriving at DLV prior to Thursday, please write to
dlv@geekbabe.com for prepayment instructions. It is expected that all
people on the waiting list as of this time will get to go, as long as
there are enough people to fill additional vehicles.

3. Showgirls Of Magic. (Saturday eve.) This will be $25 per person,
payable either at any DLV activity prior to Saturday, April 26, or in
person at the San Remo box office. (Instructions will be given to those
paying at the box office as to how to obtain the DLV discount.)

Those are the biggies. Most everything else is pay-as-you-go, each on
his or her own. Any additions, omissions, exceptions, will be announced
here.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Air tour note:

Denise "Densie" (one of our volunteer pilots) writes:

You might want to mention that the air tours start early in the morning.

People should not sign up unless they're prepared to get up and go...
sometimes it's a little rough when you're hung over, or left over, or
just haven't slept. To me, having been around airlines, it's part of
being a pilot, but your mileage may vary. ;)

Photography policies:

Speaking of photographs, Tina just reminded me that it's time to
send out an advance copy of our photography policy. Any questions
or concerns, please ask. This will be sent out with the large final
mailing as well.
. . . . .

About photography:

If you represent the press or a publication, or plan to submit
photographs of DLV for print publication or broadcast, we ask that you
first identify yourself to Annie or Tina (ask any DLV volunteer if you
do not know these individuals) prior to taking any photos or conducting
any interviews, and follow certain guidelines which will be discussed
with you in person.

At DLV, there are no general restrictions on the taking of or the
noncommercial use of personal photographs.

It can be assumed that several people present will have cameras and will
be taking pictures throughout the event at all activities.

In addition, there will be two times where we call for a posed group
photograph.

Once a photograph has been taken, it is very difficult, if not
impossible, to control the distribution of it.

It can be assumed that a significant number of the photos taken at DLV
will end up on the web.

That being said, the conclusion of a discussion of this following DLV
2001 was that the risk of unwanted recognition as a result of appearing
in a DLV photograph is extremely small. Very close to zero!

The highlights of that discussion can be summarized as follows:

* The chance of a naive friend, relative, co-worker, etc., stumbling
on your photograph on the web is so small as to be statistically
insignificant.

* It is very unlikely that somebody who knows you only in boymode will
actually recognize you when seeing an image of you in girlmode.

* The clarity and closeness of typical photographs taken at DLV will
seldom result in an actual recognizable likeness.

* Only people with an active interest in the subject (transgender) spend
any time viewing DLV pages in detail.
. . . . .

Camera-shy individuals, please follow these guidelines:

1. In a courteous manner, please inform anybody who is taking pictures
if you do not want to be photographed. Remind them at each activity at
which they are taking pictures. Refresh their memory if they point a
camera your way.

2. Be aware that during the excitement of the moment, those taking
pictures may not remember that you do not wish to be photographed. If
somebody points a camera your way, wave him or her off or turn your
head.

3. If you don't want to be photographed, do not pose whenever a call is
made for a group photograph. No, we will not be making two editions of
the group photos.
. . . . .

Photographers, please observe the following:

1. Please respect the wishes of those who do not want to be
photographed.

2. Please use discretion when photographing anybody in boymode,
mixed-mode, or any state of undress or incomplete dress.

3. Please look beyond the subject of your photographs to avoid including
those in the background who might not want to be in your photographs.
. . . . .

When we put together the "official" DLV 2003 followup pages, we will
post all candidate photos in a private staging area. All present will
have the opportunity to preview these and everybody will have a
reasonable number of "no" votes to any photos in which they appear.

Room sharing (updated):

DLV, just like any other event where people pay for hotel rooms, can be
more affordable if people share rooms. We will have a "roommate clearing
house" in this mailing list.

Please register for DLV 2003 (see link this mailing) prior to sending in
a roommate wanted listing.

If you've already booked a room, and would like for somebody else to
stay with you and share the expense, or if you're looking for somebody
who has extra space, please write to this list (dlv@geekbabe.com) with
the word "Roommate" somewhere in the subject line. Please include the
following items in your e-mail:

1. Your name.

2. Your e-mail address.

3. What date you will be arriving and what date you will be departing.

4. Do you have a room to share, or do you need space in one.

5. Any annoying habits or traits you have. (Do you smoke, do you snore,
are you a very early riser, compulsive talker, late-nite MTV addict,
etc.)

6. Any additional notes or comments.

When we have roommate items, we will include them in a special ongoing
section toward the bottom of each DLV Announcement List mailing. Those
interested in sharing rooms can then contact each other by e-mail and
make arrangements.

Please remember, any roommate agreements are private arrangements
strictly between the people involved, and I or anybody else cannot be
responsible if things don't work out (etc. etc., yada-yada, you know the
drill).

Roommate wanted:

1. Cathy Linn

2. cathylinn67227@yahoo.com

3. Sahara, 2 beds. Arrive Thurs 17th, depart Mon 28th

4. Share room & cost.

5. I smoke, drink alittle, stay up all night , (should say out all
night) and sleep very late into the after noon.

6. Im very much a party play girl and yes I like to bring my dates
back to the room sometimes. Im out to the clubs all night and will be
performing on the strip at some of the clubs.
