Announcements:

Welcome to those who just signed up! We're looking forward to having you
with us next month.
. . . . .

Regarding the world situation, yes, there may be some uncertainties in
the days and weeks to come, but there is one thing that is 100% certain:

Diva Las Vegas 2003 will go on, as planned, as scheduled. DLV will be
there for those who want it and for those who can make it.
. . . . .

Quite a bit of conversation on the Diva Las Vegas 2003 Discussion List at
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2003/dlvdisc

Topics have ranged from hotels, shows and limos to such things as the
history, lore, and trivia of DLV and even to dry cleaners.

You can either read this (and post to it) on the web, or via e-mail.
. . . . .

Keep those activity sign-ups coming in, gang. Yes, there are still a few
of them outstanding. Gentle and not-so-gentle reminders will be sent out
to those who do not respond.

Everybody who registered for DLV prior to last Friday morning should have
received an activity sign-up e-mail with a clickable link to the activity
sign-up screen. If you registered prior to about 7:00am CST last Friday
and have not received this, please let us know. Just hit REPLY to this
mailing and say you have not received it.

Those who registered after about 7:00am on Friday will get these in the
next batch, which will go out around the middle of this coming week.
. . . . .

Reconfirmed headcount (those who have completed activity sign-up) is now
up to 105. The reconfirmed count will be the number reported from now
on.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
The DLV/SBS Garden Party:

This week we feature the DLV/SBS Garden Party.

This activity will take place from 11:00am until 3:00pm on Saturday,
April 26, and is jointly sponsored by DLV (that's us, gang :) and the
Southern Belle Society (www.southernbellesociety.com).

To clear up any confusion, it is put on FOR the Diva Las Vegas people,
so it's in no way limited to SBS members. It's strictly social, with no
recruting or other hype. Many SBS members are also part of DLV, and it's
their way of doing what they can to help make DLV what it is.

This will be held at Mindy's residence, and the address, a map, and very
detailed directions will be sent out in the large final mailing to all
who have registered for DLV.

Please join me in thanking Mindy for opening her house for this very
exciting activity. (In unison now, "Thanks, Mindy.") Mindy's neighbors
are very cool, and are aware of what is going on, so please don't be shy
about attending.

Although it starts at 11 and ends at 3, you can come when you want, and
leave when you want.

Food (burgers and such) will be served, as well as liquid refreshments,
both potent and soft. There's a pool in the back yard, but it is
expected to be quite cool in late April.

Dress for the SBS Garden Party can be anything from very casual to
dressy. Swimwear and associated cover-ups are fine. If you want a chance
to wear a dressy daytime outfit, this is it.

Monique reports that a few of the people plan to wear vintage Victorian
or Antebellum period dresses, so something like that would also be
appropriate.

Although this activity is officially "full" as of this time, everybody
who has signed up as of this time, either confirmed or waiting, and
those signing up in the near future will get to attend.

Parking in the neighborhood is somewhat limited, as this is a
residential area, so please carpool if at all possible.

Thanks again to Mindy and Monique for making this happen.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Wednesday dinner plans:

There are currently several Wednesday HH and dinner proposals being
discussed by the DLV organizers. A vote will be taken on these this
week and our final plans for Wednesday evening activities will be
announced next Sunday.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Major misunderstanding about hotels:

Oops oops oops! We have a major misunderstanding here.

>back when I registered I signed up for an off-strip hotel. When do
>we find out which hotel we got and how much the cost will be? thanks.

We don't make any hotel reservations for DLV attendees. Purpose of that
drop-down box on the registration screen is for you to tell us where you
are staying, for such things as ride share lists and the like.

For the record, everybody attending DLV is responsible for making their
own lodging arrangements. We do suggest four places (IP, Sahara, San
Remo, and Tropicana) but those are just that, suggestions. You are free
to stay anywhere you wish.

Hope this clears up any misunderstandings.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Can We Tawk ...:

We need to ask the assistance of each and every one of you, please.

Now that our headcount is up to three figures, we would like to ask
the help of each and every one of you in please keeping our numbers
accurate.

Over the next few weeks our volunteers will be finalizing plans for our
activities, and in most cases those plans will involve the results of
our registration numbers and your activity sign-ups.

We need to give our vendors accurate headcounts so they can do what they
need to do to accommodate our group.

We also need to give these numbers to our volunteer activity
coordinators so they can make plans and in some cases purchase
supplies and make deposits (out of their own pockets).

Please think of our activities like the old rule you may have known
during basic training, that being "take all you want, but eat what you
take." Restated, it's "sign up for all you want, but attend what you've
signed up for."

There's no penalty for dropping an activity and then changing your mind
and signing up for it again. Your place on the roster or waiting list is
determined by when you first signed up for it.

Also, we hate to see anybody cancel a DLV registration, but it's far
worse when somebody keeps that registration open and does not show up.

If for some reason you can't make it, or even if at the last minute you
decide that you're not ready for it, or even if you just lose interest,
please let us know if you're not coming.

If you find you have to cancel, you can either cancel on the main
registration screen or send us a brief e-mail. You can easily un-cancel
at any time and there's no penalty on your activity sign-ups for doing
so.

Cancelling is cool, as long as it's something you want or need to do.

However, blowing off an activity you've signed up for is very un-cool.
At best it inconveniences somebody whose services we value. At worst it
costs your sisters money, not to mention their time and effort.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Hotel updates:

Here's the latest updates on our four suggested hotels. Please do not
wait any longer if you have not yet made your reservations.

Even though there was a news report earlier this week stating that Las
Vegas room rates appear to be dropping, a quick check with our four
suggested hotels shows that this is not the case over the DLV dates.

Prices are climbing sharply and two hotels are now showing sold-out for
the DLV weekend.

Imperial Palace: $56 for weekdays. Sold out DLV weekend.

Sahara: $39 weekdays, $119 weekend. (LA times says $42 weekdays. Price
may be going up shortly! LA Times is very seldom higher than what the
hotel desk is quoting.) Sahara has just announced that there is now a
two-night minimum over the DLV weekend (25-26) with no more
reservations accepted which arrive or depart on Saturday the 26th.

San Remo: $42 most weekdays, $69 Thurs. Sold out DLV weekend.

Tropicana: $55 weekdays, $135 Fri. $145 Sat. No Sat. arrivals.
(LA Times says $45 weekdays. Mention LA Times when you book.)

Other hotels have varying availability. If you have trouble finding a
room, or finding one at a decent rate, check the various travel sites
such as www.travelocity.com or www.hoteldiscounts.com

As the date approaches, you might try the Las Vegas Convention and
Visitors authority at 1-877-VISITLV as they will know who has rooms
available.

Room sharing:

DLV, just like any other event where people pay for hotel rooms, can be
more affordable if people share rooms. We will have a "roommate clearing
house" in this mailing list.

Please register for DLV 2003 (see link this mailing) prior to sending in
a roommate wanted listing.

If you've already booked a room, and would like for somebody else to
stay with you and share the expense, or if you're looking for somebody
who has extra space, please write to this list (dlv@geekbabe.com) with
the word "Roommate" somewhere in the subject line. Please include the
following items in your e-mail:

1. Your name.

2. Your e-mail address.

3. What date you will be arriving and what date you will be departing.

4. Do you have a room to share, or do you need space in one.

5. Any annoying habits or traits you have. (Do you smoke, do you snore,
are you a very early riser, compulsive talker, late-nite MTV addict,
etc.)

6. Any additional notes or comments.

When we have roommate items, we will include them in a special ongoing
section toward the bottom of each DLV Announcement List mailing. Those
interested in sharing rooms can then contact each other by e-mail and
make arrangements.

Please remember, any roommate agreements are private arrangements
strictly between the people involved, and I or anybody else cannot be
responsible if things don't work out (etc. etc., yada-yada, you know the
drill).

Roommate wanted:

1. Cathy Linn

2. cathylinn67227@yahoo.com

3. Sahara, 2 beds. Arrive Thurs 17th, depart Mon 28th

4. Share room & cost.

5. I smoke, drink alittle, stay up all night , (should say out all
night) and sleep very late into the after noon.

6. Im very much a party play girl and yes I like to bring my dates
back to the room sometimes. Im out to the clubs all night and will be
performing on the strip at some of the clubs.
