Only 104 days left, gang!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Things are moving right along:

As of today, we have 48 validated registrations plus 10 SO's for a total
validated headcount so far of 58.

Thanks to everybody for cooperating with the new validation procedure.

Returnee re-registration is open (see note below).

Registration for newcomers who are on this mailing list will open on
February 1. That's only 2 weeks from today. Watch for the February 1
mailing for details.
. . . . .

A few related questions/concerns about our schedule have come in and
I would like to answer them all at once here.

First about the length of the schedule, one full week this time. No,
there is no requirement or even any pressure to stay the full week.

You can participate in DLV 2004 as little as you want or as much as you
want and come and go as best fits your schedule. There's no penalty for
not staying the full week.

There's also no designated "main event", so it's very safe to make plans
according to what appears on the schedule that you find of interest.

You will find that our people will be coming and going all week long. In
fact, when looking at the registrations that have come in so far, only
around half of those from out of town have indicated they will be
staying over the full DLV period.
. . . . .

Another question about how you get in on some of the various activities
on the schedule.

Many of the activities are of the "no sign-up, just show-up" type, such
as the various large gatherings, some of the meals, happy hours, etc.
Directions to these and details will be given to all who register, and
they will be open to all with no further hoop-jumping.

Some of our activities, particularly those which require payment (maybe
even in advance) or those where we have to get an accurate headcount or
have a limit on the number of people who can attend will require a
sign-up in advance. Activity sign-up will begin the first week in April
and details on what to do to sign up for the various activities will be
posted here shortly before this happens.

As always, any questions or concerns, please ask.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Golf scheduling:

We tentatively have golf scheduled for Friday morning and afternoon,
but there has been discussion among the organizers about moving this
to Thursday.

Primary reason is that the Wednesday evening/night schedule is less
intense than Thursday evening/night and history has shown that golf
turnout can be affected if it is scheduled on a morning after some
popular late activities the night before.

Comments and feedback would be appreciated. Golfers?

Any objections to this, please speak now ...

Returnee re-registration is open:

If you've attended DLV in the past and want to quickly register for
DLV 2004, look in your mailbox for a mailing dated January 4 which
has your personal re-registration URL.

If you didn't get this, or can't find it, you can re-register at
the URL:

Although our schedule is still being prepared now, we're going to make
an effort to either include Michael in our regular schedule or get a
group together to go see Michael where he is currently performing.

Activity highlight -- Side trip to Rhyolite:

Between now and DLV, each (most) of our mailings will feature one of
our activities in detail.

This week we feature our Monday side trip to Rhyolite.

Our side trip to Area 51 was an outstanding success last year, so this
year we're gonna plan something similar.

Rhyolite is an authentic "Ghost Town", or rather the remains of such,
not a cheesy recreation or Disnoid simulation.

We will explore what was a bustling mining town of around 10,000 in
population around the turn of the 20th. century. The ruins of the bank
building and the somewhat-restored bottle house are available for close
inspection. The railway depot has been designated a landmark and is
still in good shape. We'll also traverse the now-bare side streets of
what were residential neighborhoods.

Dress: Casual required, appropriate shoes required (flats or athletic,
you will be walking a few hundred feet on unpaved roads and streets),
boymode or girlmode. It's 2 hours each way, so wear something you are
comfortable with for several hours.

Remember Rhyolite when activity sign-up begins. :)

Planning your wardrobe:

Although DLV is still 100 days away, it's not too early to be thinking
about what to wear for the various activities. I'm sure many of you are
already thinking about this, in detail. :)

Some of our people (many, actually) report that they plan their outfits
months in advance of DLV, while others just tend to throw this-and-that
into a suitcase right before they take off.

For most of our activities you will have plenty of latitude in what to
wear, and it will mostly depend on your personal style, your likes and
dislikes, and your mood at the time.

Unless otherwise noted, casual to moderately dressy attire, either
boymode or girlmode, will be fine for most of our activities. Exceptions
will be clearly noted.

Detailed dress suggestions for each activity will be sent out just prior
to DLV, and these will also appear in our activity summaries that will
be posted here between now and DLV.

To start planning your DLV wardrobe, take a look at our schedule of
activities and start thinking of which ones you want to do. (Yes, it's
still 3 months away, and new activities will be added, some may be
dropped and some may change timeslots, but what's on there now will be a
good place to start.)

If you have any questions or concerns about what is or is not
appropriate for any activity or in general, write and ask. If you would
like an honest fashion critique, let us know and we'll arrange for one
of our Big Sisters to get in touch with you.
