Thanks again, gang:

Thanks to all for making DLV 2008 our best-attended and most
successful DLV in all of our history.

Unofficial headcount is 161 as of this time. This is an 18%
increase from our total headcount of 136 in 2007!

Please see "Missing In Action" below. We want to be sure all
are accounted for!
. . . . .

Comments, feedback, and discussion are most welcome. Although we
have a formal survey on line (see link below), we do invite both
public and private comments, anecdotes, and discussion, positive
or negative.

You may post your comments and discussion on the Diva Las Vegas
Discussion Forum on the web at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlvdisc/

If you wish to comment in private, just e-mail dlv@geekbabe.com
and please note that your comments are not for publication.

Survey is now on line:

If you enjoyed yourself at DLV this year, please let us know.

If something was wrong, we need to know about it, let us know
so we can do something about it.

The follow-up survey is now on line and we're asking all who
attended to please take a few minutes and fill this out.

It's on line at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/2008survey.html

We cannot over-emphasize how helpful this is in summarizing
this year's event and planning events to come. Yes, your
opinion matters and we appreciate the response to this survey.

This will remain on line for the rest of the month of May.

Call For Volunteers:

All of those fun and rewarding times you just had were made
possible because somebody stepped forward and made those
activities happen!

Diva Las Vegas has always run entirely on volunteer help, and
yes, we're looking for more volunteers.

During DLV, a number of you asked if there was anything you
could do to help out.

Yes, there is, and now is the time to say so! :)

Planning and organization of DLV is done mostly on line via
e-mail. It's interactive and participatory. Volunteers form
what we call the DLVORG group.

The DLVORG group is not at all closed or exclusive. With
very rare exception only, it's open to anybody who expresses
interest in helping out with DLV.

DLVORG people participate at the decision-making level, the
organizing and planning level, and at the nuts-and-bolts level.

The DLVORG group has one mission and one mission only, and that
is to plan the activities that make up what we call Diva Las
Vegas.

All of our major activities were "adopted" by one or more of our
volunteers, who jumped through the necessary hoops to make them
happen.

All that fun you had at DLV, on the limo tour, at golf, at the
shows, the high tea, etc., was the result of our volunteers
stepping forward and volunteering to make those things happen.

Most of the real "work" involves planning activities and making
them happen. (And I say "work" in quotes, because it can actually
be a lot of fun!)

Joining the DLVORG group is not intended to be a status symbol.
We're all peers, both organizers and participants. There's no
class structure or pecking order. Hey, we're planning a vacation,
not building an empire!

If you're sincere about wanting to do your part to make a great
thing even better, to give back what DLV has given to you, and
help to run an event that has literally changed lives, please
step forward!

I would also encourage those who are "newly out" to consider
volunteering. We need the perspective of those who are new to
public exposure when planning DLV. Each year since 1997, DLV
has given some of our people their first public experience.
We do value the input and support of those who are new, as
we do the input from those who have been in public for years.

To volunteer, simply send a brief e-mail message to
dlvorg@geekbabe.com and state you wish to volunteer. (Or, just
reply to this mailing and state that you wish to volunteer.)

Please include a sentence or two stating how you are most
interested in helping out. Anything general or specific ("I
wanna plan a sky-diving party.", or "I'll help any way I can.")
is perfectly fine. Anything from one sentence to a book length
manuscript will be ok. :)

We're not asking for any kind of a major time or effort
commitment on your part. All we ask is that each volunteer
organize, or assist with one activity. That's it.

Yes, it's fine to conditionally volunteer. "I'll help out but
I don't know if I can attend next year ..." is fine. Likewise
is something like "I'll plan the High Tea if nobody else wants
to do it."

If you're a bit shy, that's fine. We'll find something for you
where you don't have to go cold-calling vendors or anything
like that.

And yes, out-of-the-box thinking is encouraged! As you know,
we're not limited to the things that traditionally happen at
TG events, and we're certainly not limited to those which
have happened so far at DLV.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Please rate our vendors:

We're asking all who attended to please let us and others know
how you liked (or did not like) the vendors who provided products
and services to us.

Please visit the page:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/vendors/

. and enter ratings and comments as you feel appropriate. With
most mailers you should be able to click on the above link.

You may enter a rating (1 to 10 on satisfaction and comfort) for
all vendors, plus make comments if you like on each of them.

If you got good service and enjoyed something, let others know.
Likewise, if you had a bad meal or bad service, warn others.

If you find that we're missing a vendor, please submit it using
the link on the vendor screen.

Missing in action:

If your name appears below, you have been flagged as a "no-show"
for DLV 2008.

These names were gathered from the sign-in sheets (unchecked on
all copies with no notice of cancellation), the nametags (all
copies unclaimed) and a few informal polls of the senior
volunteers to be sure we hadn't missed anyone.

Yes, it's possible that you just didn't make it to where a
check-in hostess was, or that human error caused you not to
be counted.

If your name appears below and you DID INDEED attend at least
one DLV activity, please write in (dlv@geekbabe.com) and say
so. Please also state the first DLV activity at which you were
present.

Since we have many duplicate names, the first part of the
registration number and the first few characters of the e-mail
address are shown as well.

Call For Photographs:

As always, we will be assembling a large collection of DLV 2008
photos on our web site.

We are asking you to please contribute your photos to this effort.

Here's the way this works.

1. Attendees submit their photos as outlined below.

2. We temporarily place all photos on line in a private staging
area for all attendees to view and approve. Everybody gets a
reasonable number of NO votes for any photos in which they appear,
excluding the large group photos at Night Of The Soiled Doves and
the Limo Tour. Those are a done deal. (Note that the inside photos
of Night Of The Soiled Doves need to be approved by the facility
staff, and they will appear after most of the others.)

3. We use those approved photos to make up the final DLV 2008
follow-up page.
. . . . .

How do you submit these, you ask? Here's how ...

But first, a note on file types. If you don't know or don't care
what file types are, you can skip this section. :)

.jpg files are preferred, but any sane file format is acceptable.
Minimum size of 640 pixels on the long side please, preferred is
800 or so on the long side, but any larger size is acceptable. If
you don't know anything about pixels and file formats, just send
them in and we will sort them out.

Zip or tar files are acceptable if you wish, but not preferred.

Here are the methods you can use to send them in, listed most
easy to most difficult in the effort usually required to send.

1. E-mail, file attach using any sane method. The file attach
functions of Hotmail/Yahoo/Gmail all work fine. You may send
directly to either dlv@geekbabe.com or annie@annie.net

You may attach one image per e-mail, or many images per e-mail,
whatever works best for you. There are no "mailbox size limits"
on these accounts, so send away.

2. FTP. Please write in for the server/login/password information.

3. CD/DVD or floppy via snailmail (postal mail).

If you can't use 1 or 2 above, and need to send a CD/DVD, please
write in for the postal mail address. The CDs or floppies will
be returned if you want

4. Hardcopy prints via snailmail. Again, write in for the
postal mail address. Prints will be scanned and then returned.
Standard 4" x 6" mini-lab prints work very well for this and
reproduce very well on the web.

5. Links to a NORMAL (repeat NORMAL) web site with the images.
By "normal" we mean something other than most "Photo Sharing"
sites. These are intentionally designed to make it difficult
to get clean quality copies of multiple images. Flickr is a
pain to use for this, and the Yahoo Groups photos are no
longer available in full resolution.

If you want to ask what's easiest for us, 1 and 2 (e-mail or)
FTP are about as easy as each other and are preferred over
the other methods.

3 and 4 (CD/DVD, floppy, or prints) via postal mail are next
in terms of effort required to process. Prints always work,
and it's really no problem to scan them, since I have access
to a large scanner which will do several of them in each
scan.

Downloading from the web is not preferred, but will work
assuming the site does not use any strange methods to display
the full-resolution images. Most of the photo sharing sites
are intentionally landmined to prevent mass downloading
using scripts.

Any questions or concerns, please let us know. As soon as the
photos start coming in we will put up the staging area and
announce it to those who attended.
