Welcome:

Welcome to those who just joined the list. As you know, our
event for 2008 concluded late last month, quite successfully
I might add, with record attendance by far.

If you don't want to wait for DLV 2009, there's (shameless
plug) Pinkfest 2008 in Chicago in October, and we'll be
posting the details on Pinkfest in a later mailing.

For those who attended, it was a great week! More follow-up
information appears below.

Updated final headcount is 171, which makes DLV 2008 a full
25% larger than 2007. This is our highest growth rate since
the 1999-2000 years!

Thanks again to all for making DLV 2008 the success it was!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
First photos are up:

All who attended DLV 2008 should have now received a special
mailing with the link to the photo staging area.

If you attended DLV 2008 and have not received this mailing,
please let us know.

Instructions on how to remove photos for consideration for the
final DLV 2008 follow-up pages are included in the special
mailing.
. . . . .

Call For Photos continues:

There are more photos on the way, and you're most welcome to
add yours to the collection. The more the better.

Here's the way we do this.

1. Attendees submit their photos as outlined below.

2. We temporarily place all photos on line in a private staging
area for all attendees to view and approve. All who attended get
a reasonable number of NO requests for any photos in which they
appear, excluding the large group photos at Night Of The Soiled
Doves and the Limo Tour. Those are a done deal. (Note that the
inside photos of Night Of The Soiled Doves need to be approved
by the facility staff, and they will appear after most of the
others.)

3. We use those approved photos to make up the final DLV 2008
follow-up pages.
. . . . .

How do you submit these, you ask? Here's how ...

But first, a note on file types. If you don't know or don't care
what file types are, you can skip this section. :)

.jpg files are preferred, but any sane file format is acceptable.
Minimum size of 640 pixels on the long side please, preferred is
800 or so on the long side, but any larger size is acceptable. If
you don't know anything about pixels and file formats, just send
them in and we will sort them out.

Zip or tar files are acceptable if you wish, but not preferred.
For most images, zip does not save space or bandwidth.

Here are the methods you can use to send them in, listed most
easy to most difficult in the effort usually required to send.

1. E-mail, file attach using any sane method. The file attach
functions of Hotmail/Yahoo/Gmail all work fine. You may send
directly to either dlv@geekbabe.com or annie@annie.net

You may attach one image per e-mail, or many images per e-mail,
whatever works best for you. There are no "mailbox size limits"
on these accounts, so send away.

2. FTP. Please write in for the server/login/password information.

3. CD/DVD or floppy via snailmail (postal mail).

If you can't use 1 or 2 above, and need to send a CD/DVD, please
write in for the postal mail address. The CDs or floppies will
be returned if you want

4. Hardcopy prints via snailmail. Again, write in for the
postal mail address. Prints will be scanned and then returned.
Standard 4" x 6" mini-lab prints work very well for this and
reproduce very well on the web.

5. Links to a NORMAL (repeat NORMAL) web site with the images.
By "normal" we mean something other than most "Photo Sharing"
sites. These are intentionally designed to make it difficult
to get clean quality copies of multiple images. Flickr is a
pain to use for this, and the Yahoo Groups photos are no
longer available on line in full resolution.

If you want to ask what's easiest for us, 1 and 2 (e-mail or)
FTP are about as easy as each other and are preferred over
the other methods.

3 and 4 (CD/DVD, floppy, or prints) via postal mail are next
in terms of effort required to process. Prints always work,
and it's really no problem to scan them, since I have access
to a large scanner which will do several of them in each
scan.

Downloading from the web is not preferred, but will work
assuming the site does not use any strange methods to display
the full-resolution images. Most of the photo sharing sites
are intentionally landmined to prevent mass downloading
using scripts.

Survey reminder:

Our DLV 2008 Attendee Survey will remain on line for all of May.

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/2008survey.html

If you haven't taken it yet, please click on the link immediately
above and do so.

We're asking all to please take this, including SOs, younger
attendees, older attendees, locals, everyone!

One particular note, if you have already taken this survey and
wish to make additional written comments or suggestion, just go
back to the survey page (link immediately above) and enter your
comments, leaving all checkboxes unchecked, and then hit the
SUBMIT button. Additional or multiple comment-only survey
responses are always welcome.

Particularly helpful would be comments if you had any problems,
felt uncomfortable in your hotel, had difficulty contacting the
group, etc.

Thanks to all who have already taken this survey. The data we
get will be particularly valuable for summarizing this year's
event and planning for events to come.

DLV "Biggest Loser" contest:

Gina is proposing a "Biggest Loser" contest among DLV attendees,
the prize for which has yet to be determined.

This will be coordinated on the DLV Discussion Forum on the
web at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlvdisc/

No real target date has been set, but Fantasia Fair and Pinkfest,
both which occur this October, have been mentioned as to when
some would like to see results.

If this continues, there will be a weigh-in and prize awarded at
DLV 2009.

As Gina writes:

First of all it was a great pleasure seeing all of you. As
always that was the one of the most fun times of my whole year.

One thing I noticed this year and I was the prime example that our
collective girths have increased. Some I have to admit were just
plain gorgeous. (I hate you!!! J) I'd like to propose a support
network and contest to possibly motivate ourselves to reduce
weight and get back into all of those clothes that no longer fit.

For me the mutual support of like minded friends might be all of
the motivation I need. Getting more fit is important to me, I've
gotten to the age when all that evil stuff cholesterol, fat, etc.
starts causing a bunch of trouble. I don't want a heart attack,
nor do I wish to any of my friends to have such a problem. I've
had a continual problem with weight my whole life and its time to
beat it.

I was thinking an online starting weigh in (based on honesty) and
then a weigh in at DLV next year and a victory dinner (or drink)
for all the winners (losers).

Discussion Forum on the web at:

Missing in action:

Thanks to all who answered the Missing In Action call. Yes,
there are a number of reasons why somebody may have been
present but did not get counted on the sign-in sheets. We
want to be sure that everyone present is accounted for.

You'll notice that this list is much shorter than the last
one. :)

If your name appears below and you DID INDEED attend at least
one DLV activity, please write in (dlv@geekbabe.com) and say
so. Please also state the first DLV activity at which you were
present.

Since we have many duplicate names, the first part of the
registration number and the first few characters of the e-mail
address are shown as well.
