Latest DLV 2009 updates:

One month to go, gang! :)

Welcome to those who recently registered or joined the list.
We've had many registrations and list joins since our last
general mailing. We're looking forward to seeing you in
person next month.

If you're new, this mailing, and the archived back mailings,
(see link) will help you get up to speed.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.

Long mailing! Lotsa information! Read it, it's good for you! :)

If you are unclear or uncertain what DLV is and is not, see
the note under "Current Concerns" below. There seems to be a
bit of confusion on line and off regarding exactly what DLV
is.
. . .

Things are moving along smoothly and we're looking forward to
a well-attended and successful event next month.

We're now estimating a total turnout in the range of 150-165 or
so. We will be able to give some closer estimates when activity
sign-up gets underway. Remember, you will never see the entire
DLV group in one place at one time. The two largest gatherings
over DLV week will be Monday evening and Saturday evening. The
dinner on Wednesday evening, just prior to the Limo Tour, is
also expected to draw the majority of our people as well.

Diva Las Vegas Invitational:

Mindy sends in the following about Golf, edited somewhat to
include the rules synopsis. Golfers, please read carefully.

You can sign up for golf at activity sign-up time, subject
to payment being received as per instructions posted on the
activity sign-up screen.
. . . . .

Mindy writes:

Ok here's the deal for this year.

The cost will be $51.00 which includes greens fees, cart,
hole in one contest with major prizes (this is a perk
provided by the new course management team) and practice
range balls.

The usual bring a prize as in past years.

There will be refreshment carts on the course with drinks and
snacks at the usual golf course cost. Please remember to make
a modest tip to the cart personnel as we have a great relationship
with the people at the course and wish to keep it this way. The
course does not allow any outside beverages or food. If you
must have your favorite scotch with you please keep it well
hidden and bribe me with a shot.

You must supply your own clubs or rent from the clubhouse. No
sharing of a set of clubs is allowed according to course rules.
Only 2 players per cart and only 2 bags per cart. All players
will use carts.

The format will be stroke play with no handicap adjustment. The
Rules of Golf will apply with the following exceptions.

1. In the event a group falls one half hole behind they will
require short or errant shots to be picked up and dropped within
one club length of any other players corresponding shot with a
one stroke penalty.

2. Struggling golfers may elect to allow one shot per each nine
to be played by any member of their group. Struggling golfer
to be defined as anyone who is 10 or more strokes behind the
low score in their group. Any golfer may also pick up and
drop within one club length of another players corresponding
shot with a one stroke penalty at anytime.

Dress will be fem appropriate golf attire. No short shorts, no
thin strap halter tops. Exceptions may be requested for SO's or
non TG guests. Requests for exceptions must be received by the
tournament director at least one week prior to the event. The
course is a spikeless course and low impact sports shoes are
allowed.

All play will be from the front (ladies) tees.

We will try to arrange for you to play with your friends. Please
note in your sign up if you have a preference of playing partners.

Handicap carts. If you have a medical need for a handicap flag
on your cart, or special handicap consideration please let me
know ASAP.

Bathrooms. Out on the course use either one. In the clubhouse
if you use the fem facilities please use fem decorum. In the past
we had one or more players stand and pee in the womens bathroom
and we almost got a future ban on the fem facilities at the
course. We are playing as ladies please act as ladies.

I will be sending out new payment instructions this year as the
course wants it all paid in one payment. I will set up a Paypal
system for prepayment of fees. The fees will be due by May 4th.

As in the past the player limit is 36 with 1st come 1st serve. We
will meet at 8 am on Tues. and the 1st group will tee off at 9 am.

You wish to play with somebody let me know. The payments will be
to mindy@mindyrussell.com at Paypal or use the form I will send
asap.

[Moderator's note: Mindy's form will be posted on the DLV web
site and a note will be sent out in the next general mailing.]

I need one or two people to do video (I will supply one video
camera) and photos and one person to co-hostess with me and if
somebody could do up our usual long drive and nearest the pin
signs and prizes.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
English Tea:

Jamie Renae sends the following on Friday's English High Tea.
This contains payment instructions.

In order to attend, you must also be a registered DLV attendee
and sign up for this at activity sign-up time. Address for
payment will be repeated on the activity sign-up screen and
the notes will be repeated in the Large Final Mailing.
. . . . .

English Tea

Friday May 15th, 2009 @2:00 pm (please be on time)

Total Cost = $40 (USD) prepaid

The Tea will be at the Verandah Private Dining Room at the
Four Seasons Hotel in Las Vegas Nv. The Restaurant is on
the grounds of the Mandalay Bay Hotel/Casino.

This is the 5th time we have visited the Four Seasons and they
are very pleased to have us return. It is a reasonably safe
venue. If you want to attend and need moral support, I can
meet you at the Valet parking and help you to the dining area.

The table capacity is 26 people, max, so sign up will close when
I have received payment for 26 attendees. All others will be put
on a waiting list in case of a cancellation.

Payment may be made with Paypal, to Jamie@jamierenae.com, or
by money order, made out to J. Van Horn and sent to:

Jamie Renae
PO box 8831
Fayetteville, Arkansas 72703.

Payment may also be made in Cash, USD, on Monday, May 11th, until
9 pm . Payments will be non-refundable after Monday, since the
number I give the Restaurant will be how much will need to be
paid. Payments, sent to Paypal or PO box must be received, by
me, no later than May 7th, 2009. Once I leave for Vegas, I
will not have access to paypal or my PO Box. I will be available
in Vegas starting on Sunday PM at the Pre-DLV gathering.

I have to have a final number of paid attendees by 9:00pm on
Monday May 11th, 2009.

Please include your, normally used, name on payment, as well
as the name you will be using at DLV, along with your email
address.

The Verandah is a High Class facility. Appropriate dress will
not include Costumes or Club-wear. Judgments will be the
responsibility of Jamie Renae.

Parking is a medium walk, so I recommend using the Valet at
the main entrance. They do a very good job and a reasonable tip
is a small price to pay.

Directions:
Four Seasons Hotel
3960 Las Vegas Blvd S, Las Vegas, NV

Las Vegas Blvd -South or North

Diablo Street- Turn West

It will be the intersection just south of Mandalay Bay Rd. Not
the Resort entrance.

Valet parking and main entrance will be to the right. Other
parking is to the left.

Please feel free to email me with any questions or comments at
jamiegirl@jamierenae.com

What you need to do:

If you want to attend Diva Las Vegas, here is what you need to
do. ...

If you have not yet registered:

In order to participate in Diva Las Vegas, you will need to
register. You can register on line at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/register2009.html

Before you register, please look over our web site carefully,
if you have not done so already, to be sure you know what DLV
is and what DLV is not.

Please note that in order to get in on the first round of
activity sign-up, you will need to hold a validated DLV
registration as of Saturday, April 18.
. . .

If you have registered:

The next big thing is activity sign-up. See notes below.

Other things that you should be doing, if you have not done
so already, include making your travel and hotel reservations
(hotel rates are still amazingly low this year) and planning
your wardrobe.

Information on our suggested hotels appears on line at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2009/2009hotels.html
. . .

If you registered but did not respond to your validation e-mail:

Don't panic, don't worry, don't be shy, we still want you!

No, in most cases you don't have to start over and register
again from scratch. No, we're not gonna yell at you or look
down on you because you let your validation lapse.

Look in your inbox and find the validation e-mail that you
received very shortly after you registered. Dust it off,
read it carefully, and do what it tells you to do. Very
simple! If you deleted or misplaced this mailing, write us
and we will resend it.

Are you still listening? The first person who shows Annie
(ask any DLV volunteer if you don't know her) a hard copy
printout of this message at our Welcome Celebration on
Monday of DLV week will be treated to the beverage of your
choice.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Cleaning up our roster:

Over the next week or so, in preparation for activity sign-up,
we will be going over our roster and making some badly needed
corrections.

We have a few obvious duplicate registrations. We'll be going
through and cleaning these up, deleting duplicates.

For newcomers who are registered more than once, we will
delete all but the latest registration, unless you tell us
to do otherwise.

For returnees, we will retain the registration that most
closely matches your previous years' registrations unless
you tell us otherwise.

We also have a few cases of cross-registered couples. Couples
only need to register once. One registration covers both you
and your significant other (spouse or equivalent life partner).

Unless you hear otherwise, we'll change cross-registered
couple registrations to two single registrations. That is
the easiest way for us to do it from our end.

We'll also be cleaning up obvious typographical errors and
spelling errors, so if you really want your name tag to
say "Sandxra" (with the "x" being silent as in "swimmxing")
please let us know to keep it that way. :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Things to come:

Activity sign-up:

In about a week we will begin activity sign-up for DLV 2009.

This is where you tell us which of the many optional DLV
activities you want to do.

On or around April 19, everyone who holds a validated DLV
2009 registration will receive a special e-mail which will
contain a link (URL) to a personalized activity sign-up
screen.

Just click on the link and fill out the screen. Very simple.
If you change your mind you can go back and change things.
This year, it's smart enough to remember what you are
already signed up for, so you only have to change the
things you want to change.

The sign-up screen will also have additional information
about the activities, such as cost, payment information,
any conditions or restrictions, etc.

This (activity sign-up) also performs one other important
function. It reconfirms your intent to attend. For this
reason we ask you to go through the activity sign-up
process even if you do not wish to participate in any
of the optional activities.

Between now and April 19, please look over our schedule
and get an idea of what things you will want to do.
. . .

Large Final Mailing:

On or around May 7, everyone who holds a validated DLV
registration will receive what we call the Large Final
Mailing.

Yes, this year we will be handing out a hardcopy schedule
and map when you check in, but this will be only a fraction
of what you will need to know to make the most of Diva Las
Vegas.

The Large Final Mailing will include such things as:

. "Bare Minimum" section as a "quick-start" guide.
. Your personalized final confirmation and itinerary.
. Final "pretty-printed" detailed schedule of activities.
. Behavior, dress and restroom guidelines.
. List of volunteer drivers and people who need rides.
. Check-in instructions.
. Contact phone numbers.
. Big Sister Emergency Hotline number.
. Diva Las Vegas Photo Guidelines.
. Discounts and promotions. (Some good ones this year!)
. Link to detailed activity maps.
. Info on informal off-schedule Pre-DLV happenings.

Please watch for this, be expecting it.

Hint: Print this stuff out and read it on the plane.
. . .

When you arrive in Las Vegas:

Hotel check-in, either at our suggested hotels or any hotel of
your choice is completely independent of checking in to Diva
Las Vegas. Unlike other events, there is no DLV "headquarters"
at any hotel, nor is there any official DLV presence at any
hotel.

All you need to do then is to show up at the first DLV
activity that you want to attend. We will be expecting
you!

See notes below if you will need a ride to your first DLV
activity and have not made contact with a volunteer driver.
. . .

Making contact and checking in:

You can check in at any of the Monday activities, the primary
daily lunch any day, or any activity that has "check-in
available" noted on the final schedule.

Look for or ask for one of our greeters or our check-in
hostess.

Check-in is quick and informal. There will not be a check-in
desk except at a few of our early activities. Our hostess will
take your name, give you your name tag, give you some items,
and ask you if you have any questions or concerns. If you are
new or don't know others well, one of our volunteer greeters
will introduce you around.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Rides and riders:

If you will be needing a ride to DLV activities, or if you will
be driving and offering rides to others, please be sure your
hotel is properly listed on your registration. If you need to
update this, just click on the link that was sent to you right
after you registered. If you can't find this or need help, let
us know and we will make the updates for you.

A list of volunteer drivers and those who need rides will be
sent out in the Large Final Mailing.

Now, if you're concerned about a ride to your first activity
and you don't know anybody who is driving yet, don't panic.
The Large Final Mailing will give you instructions on what to
do to be matched up with a volunteer driver prior to your
first activity, should you need a ride.

However (comma) be forewarned, if you phone the DLV contact
people asking for a ride at short notice, in almost all cases
you will be told to please take a taxi.

One last thing: Please accept a ride at DLV only if you agree
that it is totally at your own risk! Yes, we hate having to
rub this in, but Las Vegas is a very litigious community.
Just look around, there are ads for ambulance-chasers all
over the place! We want to be sure that there are absolutely
no misunderstandings about this!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Recent concerns:

A few concerns that have been heard recently ...

What is Diva Las Vegas?

There seems to be some confusion, both on line and in real
life, about what Diva Las Vegas is and is not, and what is
and is not part of Diva Las Vegas.

We're "Diva Las Vegas", three words, none of them plural, none
of them possessive, no "o" anywhere in our name, no apostrophe
either. :)

We're a six-day event, not sexually-oriented, and not based
on the model used for most other TG events. We have all kinds
of activities on all six days (and nights). Schedule below.

Yes, there are other goings-on within the same timeframe as
Diva Las Vegas. We have nothing to do with these. If it
doesn't appear on our schedule (below), it's not part of DLV.

Our only official website is http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/

Official DLV mailings will always come either from a
dlv*@geekbabe.com address or else from a volunteer's
personal e-mail account.

The "dlvegas" Yahoo group reflects content that appears
on the Discussion Forum on the main DLV web site.

If you want to participate in Diva Las Vegas, in whole or in
part you will need to register for DLV. This is not optional,
despite what you may have heard. If you show up without
registering, prepare to be screamed at and turned over to
Guido, who will take you to the back room and put your head
in a vise!

No, you can't simply tag along with someone else who has
registered. It doesn't work that way! No, you can't pretend
to be the SO of someone else who is registered. If you try
that, Guido will have a "friendly chat" with both of you
in the cellar!

One other misunderstanding. Joining this mailing list will
not register you. Registration must be done separately.
Likewise, joining the Yahoo group will not register you.
. . .

I'm an admirer, am I really welcome at DLV?

Yes, you are welcome to attend, really truly! Admirers are
just as welcome as everybody else is. You don't have to say
you are an admirer unless you want to.

No, you won't be the only one. Our roster shows a number of
people using masculine names.

I don't know what else to say about this. I know that admirers
are not welcome at some TG events, but DLV welcomes you. Just
behave as a gentleman (or lady) and you will be treated as
such.

No, you won't be looked upon as a horny geek unless you
actually happen to behave like a horny geek! :)
. . .

I want to do DLV in boymode, is this permissible?

Yes. No problem. Only stipulation is that you need to be in
either complete boymode or complete girlmode at any given
time. None of this dressing from the neck down or anything
like that, ok?

Throughout the event, you are certain to see some of the
attendees in both modes at various times.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Rooms and roommates:

We're very aware that lodging will be the greatest expense for
most of you attending DLV. Sharing a room two ways cuts this
expense in half, in one third for three to a room, and 1/4 for
four in a room.

We have a Roommate Clearing House for DLV 2009. You can either
contact our Room Share Coordinator via e-mail at:

roommate@geekbabe.com

.. or sign up to participate in the Roommate Clearing House
when you register on the web.

There's also been some interest in sharing such things as
rental apartments and timeshares and such. If you're so inclined,
please coordinate this with our Room Share Coordinator.

When you sign up for roommate matching, we'll ask you a few
questions, such as if you smoke, if you (knowingly) snore,
things like that, in order to make better matches.

On the roommate screen there is also a large blank area into
which you can put any comments or concerns you may have. For
example, you could say something like "I don't care about
smoking or snoring, I just want the cheapest room!" if that's
what you want.

One important caveat! The Roommate Clearing House is a good-faith
effort on all parts with NO GUARANTEES! Roommates assume all
risks. Please have a contingency plan. Your Room Share
Coordinator, as well as other DLV organizers and volunteers, will
not be responsible if a roommate fails to show, fails to pay,
fails to make reservations, does not get along with you, or in
any other way things don't work out.

Big thanks to Diane for coordinating the Roommate Clearing
House! :)
